Ava Evans on ‘threatening’ comments after GB News row

Ofcom has launched an investigation into Tuesday’s episode of Dan Wootton Tonight on GB News under their rules on offence.

The Office of Communications, which is the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the UK, received around 7,300 complaints about the programme which aired on GB News on Tuesday.

The organisation are investigating under Rule 2.3 of the Broadcasting Code, which states that in applying generally accepted standards broadcasters must ensure that material which may cause offence is justified by the context.

Dame Melanie Dawes, Ofcom Chief Executive, said: “Over the last few days there has been speculation and commentary about our role as the independent broadcast regulator. These are important issues and I wanted to be clear about our rules.

“Parliament sets objectives on how the broadcast sector should be regulated. We set and enforce rules to achieve these objectives.

“This is highly valued by audiences and central to our democracy.

“The decisions we take, always based on facts and evidence once a programme has aired, are vital if we are to protect our vibrant media landscape. We continue to apply and enforce these rules without fear or favour.”

Ofcom’s statement comes after Laurence Fox ‘s comments about reporter Ava Evans on Wootton’s GB News show.

During the live broadcast, he asked what “self-respecting man” would “climb into bed” with Evans.

Wootton has since said in an apology that he should have intervened, while the channel described Fox’s remarks as totally unacceptable”, promising to conduct a full investigation.

Fox, who has also been suspended from his hosting role on the channel, has meanwhile insisted he stands “by every word of what I said”.

PoliticsJOE political correspondent Evans told BBC Politics Live on Monday that the idea of introducing a “minister for men” to tackle the mental health crisis could “make an enemy out of women”, as mental health is a universal issue.

Speaking about her comments on Tuesday’s episode of Dan Wootton Tonight, Fox said: “We’re past the watershed so I can say this. Show me a single self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman – ever, ever…

“That little woman has been fed, spoon-fed oppression day after day after day…

“We need powerful, strong, amazing women who make great points for themselves, we don’t need these sort of feminist 4.0… they’re pathetic and embarrassing.

“Who would want to shag that?”

Wootton appeared to be smiling and laughing during Fox’s remarks, before adding that Evans was a “very beautiful woman”.

Fox News Airs TikTok Ads While Questioning Ramaswamy for Using It

September 28, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Fox News moderators grilled Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy during Wednesday’s debate for using the Chinese-made app TikTok despite the network airing at least two ads for it during the event.

Debate moderator Stuart Varney asked Ramaswamy why he joined TikTok despite its association with the Chinese Communist Party.

Ramaswamy, who had called TikTok “digital fentanyl” just weeks ago, argued that the Republican Party needed to go where the youth were. The question gave former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley an opening to attack Ramaswamy for changing his mind, telling him, “Honestly, every time I hear you, I feel a little bit dumber for what you say.”

NIKKI HALEY GRILLS VIVEK RAMASWAMY: “This is infuriating because TikTok is one of the most dangerous social media apps […] Honestly, every time I hear you, I feel a little bit dumber.”

“You were in business with the Chinese […] We can’t trust you!” pic.twitter.com/UUgj2dIfJd

The hosts seemed unaware that the first ad aired during the debate was for TikTok, something not lost on viewers.

Does anyone want to tell Fox their first ad during the debate was from TikTok? lol

According to Citizen Free Press, another ad for TikTok came right after other candidates attacked Ramaswamy for using it.

The candidates were also seemingly unaware of the advertisements, with Haley calling TikTok “one of the most dangerous social media apps that we could have.”

She argued the Chinese app could “get your contacts, they can get your financial information, they can get your emails. They can get your text messages; they can get all of these things.”

Ramaswamy argued:

We need to win elections, and part of how we win elections is reaching the next generation of young Americans where they are. So when I get into office, I’ve been very clear: Kids under the age of 16 should not be using addictive social media. We’re only going to ever get to declaring independence from China, which I favor, if we actually win. So while the Democrats are running rampant, reaching the next generation three to one, there’s exactly one person in the Republican Party which talks a big game about reaching young people, and that’s me.

When asked why he made a TikTok account despite security concerns, Vivek Ramaswamy says Republicans need to reach “the next generation of young Americans where they are.”

This is not the first time robot servers have made news. In November 2017, Chennai saw the first robotic restaurant called Robot and the concept was inspired by robot-themed Chinese and Japanese eateries.

And then in 2022, post-pandemic, Noida saw the launch of The Yellow House—Robot Restaurant, a multi-cuisine restaurant chain.

Expressing their discontent over the state government’s decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, several pro-farmer and pro-Kannada organisations have called for a complete ‘Bengaluru bandh’ on September 26.

“Bandhs hurt the livelihood of people. They can never be an option for any issue, be it sentimental or political,” said

Prabhakar said economics aside, bandhs will also hurt the credibility of Bengaluru and Karnataka as it will reflect on international orders and commitments. KEA has refused to take a stand on the bandh and has directed its 720 member companies to decide on closing depending on the “local situation”.
The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) said a business entity will need at least a week to recover from losses from a single day of closure.

“One day closure by only the trading community amounts to a Rs 100 crore loss in GST collection to the state exchequer. Consider this multiple times across all spheres of economic activi ties,” said Ramesh Chandra
Considering the cause and sentiments behind the Cauvery issue, some 80% of industries in Bengaluru have agreed to close for a day on Tuesday (September 26) but are wary of closing again on Friday. “We have left it to local industries to decide,” said Lahoti.
The hotelier’s association, which employs some 10 lakh people directly or indirectly, estimates a loss of Rs 100 crore in excise duties alone per day.
“While reports suggest heavier losses, revenue generation in our industry is on a daily basis,” said PC Rao, president, Bengaluru Hotelier’s Association. “Other industries can restart operations the next day and recoup losses, but that’s not possible for hoteliers.” He said the association cannot support the bandh call due to “lack of clarity”.
