As gun violence statistics are shattering records in Philadelphia, CBS3 anchor Natasha Brown sat down with a group of mothers whose lives have forever been changed by senseless crime.

The organization Mothers In Charge was founded by Dr. Dorothy Johnson-Speight in 2003 after the tragic murder of her son Khaaliq Jabbar Johnson in 2001. Dr. Johnson-Speight created a safe space for mothers to find solace in each other and it led to the organization going national. Chapters have been established in Harrisburg, PA, New York, NY, New Jersey State, Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, and Berkley, CA.

In an emotional session with Natasha Brown, mothers opened up about how their lives will never be the same. Natasha met with mothers who lost their children several years ago to others whose stories are still fresh, including Amy Lounsberry whose son Milan Loncar was killed while walking his dog in Fairmount in January 2021. The mothers’ wishes are to put an end to the violence and raise awareness about the everlasting pain gun violence wreaks on families.

PHILADELPHIA — Now is your last chance to get your hands on a physical copy of the Christmas benefit album from Philadelphia Eagles players.

“A Philly Special Christmas” is now open for preorders for its third and final time.

The third round of preorders comes after the album sold out twice already.

Fans can preorder a physical copy online here.

Preorder are only open through 9 a.m. Saturday.

For those who miss the album drop or don’t use record players, the album will be available to buy on Apple Music Dec. 23.

The album’s sales are benefiting Children’s Treatment Crisis Center in Philadelphia.

Eagles players Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, amd Connor Barwin have teamed with The War on Drugs drummer Charlie Hall to release the album “A Philly Special Christmas.”

A full tracklist is below.

The seven-song long play album is set to release Dec. 23 on Vera Y Records, and proceeds from the album will be donated to the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center in Philadelphia.

Recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks, Silent Partners, and Elm St studio, the album also features numerous guest musicians.

Additional album contributors are Lady Alma, Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), Rob Hyman (The Hooters), Eric Bazilian (The Hooters), Zach Miller (Dr. Dog), Robbie Bennett (The War on Drugs), Eliza Hardy Jones (The War on Drugs), Brandon Beaver (MeWithoutYou), Thomas Hughes (The Spinto Band), Randy Huth (Pissed Jeans), Nick Krill (The Spinto Band, Teen Men), Nasir Dickerson, Kaila Vandever, Mike “Slo-Mo” Brenner, and The Silver Ages.

Eagles announcer Merrill Reese and players Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, Brandon Graham, Haason Reddick, and Jordan Davis all make appearances.

“It’s amazing how talented these guys are and cool to see Philly’s music and sports worlds come together to create something special for the holidays,” Barwin said. “I’m proud that everyone involved wanted to do something good with this record by donating proceeds to Philadelphia’s Children’s Crisis Treatment Center’s annual toy drive to help bring a little joy to families during the holidays.”

While singing in the locker room together, Kelce, Johnson and Mailata started talking about the possibilities for making a holiday album filled with classic songs they loved from childhood.

They floated the idea by former Eagle Barwin and current Director of Player Development.

Barwin reached out to his Hall, who also loved the idea.

The players, Hall, and Barwin got together for a summer bonfire with guitars and favorite songs.

The group shared their collective love for the city and music.

Afterward, they knew that making a holiday record had to happen.

Hall agreed to produce and began to assemble Philadelphia musicians to join them in the studio to make this dream a reality.

“Earlier this year, Jason Kelce got it in his mind to make something special for Philly and has assembled a group of teammates (who can really sing, like really) to make a Christmas record,” Hall said. “What began as just a seed of an idea has grown to include all sorts of Philly luminaries both young and old, from The Hooters to the celestial sounds of Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra to The War On Drugs to Lady Alma and everything in between (including members of Dr Dog, The Spinto Band and countless others). We’ve had some of the most beautiful young Philly players add their heart and spirit – including Nasir Dickerson (tenor sax) and Kalia Vandever (trombone). This is a record that is just absolutely full of JOY.”

“It means a lot to me about coming together, sharing stories about our upbringing, and what Christmas was like for each of us growing up,” Mailata said. “I hope we bring people together with this album the same way that it brought us closer together talking about our backgrounds, music and family holidays. And discovering that Lane and Kelce have great voices behind their beards was my favorite part.”

“What started out as a fun idea with the intention of raising money for families around the holidays, turned into something much more,” Kelce said. “This project ended up becoming one of the most enjoyable and delightful experiences I’ve ever been a part of. How all of this came together, the people, the music, the joy, was incredible. From our first meeting, you could feel the happiness and energy from everyone, the amount of people who were willing to give their skill, time, and spirit has been inspiring. At some point, we all realized, this is going to be really great, which exceeded any of our expectations going in. But more than that, and I know it’s cheesy, this album really came to embody friendship, joy, and giving, as if the Christmas Spirit had possessed us all. I can’t thank everyone who was involved in creating this enough and am excited to partner and donate proceeds to the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center’s annual toy drive in Philadelphia. I feel so proud to have been involved!”

Who knew Lane Johnson has great pipes? Jason Kelce might need a few more vocal lessons, but he gives 110 percent just like on the gridiron.

PHILADELPHIA — Get ready for more Christmas songs from the Philadelphia Eagles linemen.

Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson are the stars on the newest track released from the upcoming charity benefit album “A Philly Special Christmas” by the Birds and local Philadelphia musicians.

The new track is a take on the classic “Blue Christmas.”

Give it a listen below:

This is the second track released ahead of the album’s debut. Tracks will be released every Friday until the album drops on Dec. 23.

Last week, the track “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” was released.

Recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks, Silent Partners, and Elm St studio, proceeds from the album will be donated to the Children’s Treatment Crisis Center in Philadelphia.

This summer, Kelce, Johnson, Jordan Mailata, Connor Barwin, and War on Drugs Drummer Charlie Hall joined forces to record “A Philly Special Christmas.”

The seven song album features classic holiday songs and performances from the aforementioned players as well as Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), Rob Hyman (The Hooters), Eric Bazilian (The Hooters), Lady Alma, Zach Miller (Dr.

“I’m proud that everyone involved wanted to do something good with this record by donating proceeds to the annual toy drive at the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center in Philadelphia to help bring a little joy to families during the holidays.”

PHILADELPHIA — As it turns out, Philadelphia Eagles fans really want to hear their favorite players sing Christmas tunes.

The Christmas charity album, “A Philly Special Christmas,” has raised a quarter million dollars for a local non-profit that aims to provide behavioral health to Philadelphia’s children and their families.

Eagles players Jason Kelce, Jordan Milata, and Lane Johnson, along with former player and album executive producer Connor Barwin and War on Drugs drummer Charlie Hall, presented a $250,000 check to the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center Tuesday.

The album sold out twice, prompting a third and final presale push late last week.

It’s unclear how many albums were actually sold, but it’s safe to say a good amount are heading to fans across the region based on the sizable donation.

The seven-track album is set to be officially released Friday on vinyl and digitally on Apple Music.

Tracks on the album are:

  1. White Christmas
  2. Blue Christmas
  3. Merry Christmas Baby
  4. The Night Before Christmas
  5. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
  6. Silent Night
  7. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks, Silent Partners, and Elm St studio, the album also features numerous guest musicians.

Additional album contributors are Lady Alma, Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), Rob Hyman (The Hooters), Eric Bazilian (The Hooters), Zach Miller (Dr. Dog), Robbie Bennett (The War on Drugs), Eliza Hardy Jones (The War on Drugs), Brandon Beaver (MeWithoutYou), Thomas Hughes (The Spinto Band), Randy Huth (Pissed Jeans), Nick Krill (The Spinto Band, Teen Men), Nasir Dickerson, Kaila Vandever, Mike “Slo-Mo” Brenner, and The Silver Ages.
