The woman, who had suffered a fall and banged her head at the sheltered accommodation home she lives in, had been taken to Whiston Hospital, with her daughter travelling with her, Liverpool Echo reports.

The fall, which occurred on a Saturday morning in late April, had caused the elderly lady to bleed profusely from her head, partly because she takes blood thinners to deal with other health conditions.

Her daughter, who asked that she and her mother remain anonymous, said: “The two ambulance men gave all the details of what had happened to the hospital staff and I thought they would go – but they stayed. Apparently they couldn’t hand mum over to the hospital as there wasn’t any space to get her into the A&E department.

“We were in a corridor with lots of other people on stretchers – mainly elderly people. I went off down a corridor into another department to find a chair as I have got health issues myself and really needed to sit down. In front of us was another elderly patient, the ambulance staff with that person offered to stay with mum so the crew with mum could leave – we had been there almost an hour at that point.”

Later on she was looked at by a nurse, before a young doctor came to see her, warning that she could be waiting a very long time for the scan that was needed. After four hours of waiting the woman’s daughter was asked to leave as they couldn’t accommodate family members.

The woman’s daughter said: “We tried ringing later on and couldn’t get an answer from A&E – it was just ringing out – understandably they were extremely busy. Later in the evening my son managed to get through and they said his grandmother was in “stretcher triage” but was comfortable, and her head injury was waiting to be assessed by a specialist.

“The following morning we rang again and my son was told she was still in stretcher triage but had fallen off the trolley in the night. I went straight there, with pyjamas and incontinence pads and a blanket and food & drinks, to try and get an update.”

When her daughter got to the hospital, her mum’s wound had been cleaned but she said she was ‘shocked’ to find her still in a corridor just a a little further round the corner from where she had left her the previous afternoon. She added: “By this point mum was really confused, she thought the nurses were the carers who come to her bungalow and she kept asking one of them to go and her some sweeteners for her tea out of the cupboard in the kitchen.”

A healthcare assistant at the hospital explained that the elderly lady had got her legs stuck through the trolley rails in the night and had fallen. She added: “Thank God she hadn’t done herself further injury.”

The 90-year-old woman was eventually admitted and reached a ward in the early hours of the Monday morning, nearly 40 hours after she first arrived. Her daughter said: “I want to be clear that in no way am I having a go at the nursing staff, they do what they do under very difficult circumstances. And the ambulance staff were absolutely amazing.

“Mum was three weeks shy of her 90th birthday at the time of this incident. She is diabetic, has third stage kidney failure, leukaemia and heart problems, and was clearly confused – both through age related memory & hearing loss and probably also as result of the head injury. The hospital is clearly very understaffed and demand is through the roof but leaving a vulnerable old woman for so long in a corridor is totally unacceptable.

“She was not the only old person I saw in that corridor either, some in a worse state of confusion than Mum. It’s like they are disposable, they have no dignity and this system has become the norm – the staff are maybe hardened to it, maybe they have to be to be able to actually go to work each day. What happens to old people who have no family nearby, to come and advocate or care for them during their wait to be admitted. It is truly shocking and it looks like it’s only going to get worse.”

Responding, a spokesperson for the St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, which runs the hospital said: “At times of great pressure, when demand exceeds the number of beds available to admit patients to the hospital, it is regrettable that there may be occasions where patients are cared for in stretcher triage for longer periods of time than we would wish. This was unfortunately the case in April and demand was exceptionally high.

“As with all other hospitals across the country, we have experienced a significant increase in demand for services over the last 3 years. Whiston Hospital remains the busiest A&E, with the highest number of attendances in Cheshire and Merseyside.

“Patient safety is always our priority. At all times we ensure that nursing and medical staff maintain the highest levels of care during this unprecedented level of activity. Our staff are responding to this increased pressure with exceptional professionalism and are working incredibly hard throughout the hospital to manage this demand.”

Aussie influencer accused of sex with 14-year-old boy ‘four times in 24 hours’

July 1, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

An Aussie influencer and horse-breeding heiress has been accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Police say Sydney influencer and detox entrepreneur, Savannah Daisley, had intercourse with the child four times in 24 hours, last year.

The 45-year-old appeared in Waverley Court in Sydney on Tuesday charged with four counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a boy between 14 and 16 years old.

Police allege the four sexual encounters occurred in the 24 hours leading up to 5pm on May 20 last year, in the same North Shore suburb where Daisley lives.

The Instagram influencer, who boasts 40,000 followers on the platform, was highly intoxicated at the time of the alleged offending, according to the police allegations tendered to the court.

Police claim a legal phone tap heard the ritzy founder of detox business Smart Cleanse admit to kissing the alleged victim.

During the conversation, Daniel Richardson, prosecuting, said Daisley had admitted to at least kissing the young person.

However, she claimed to have little recollection of the alleged offending, Mr Richardson said.

“But she says, ‘I thought you were going to call the police on me, I thought we had placed this in a little box and thrown it deep into the sea’,” Mr Richardson told the court.

“His instruction to me was the phone call was quite damning to her.

“The facts are that admissions were made that were captured on telephone intercept and it is a quite serious matter.”

The entrepreneur has been in custody since she was arrested on June 27, and the police have applied for an apprehended violence order to protect the 14-year-old complainant.

Longueville resident, Daisley, who has authored two books on health and wellness, and is the daughter of renowned horse breeder Ross Daisley, strongly denied the accusation.

Daisley’s defence lawyer, Pierre de Dassel, said the report against his client was made “in spite”.

It was an “oath vs oath” case, he said. “There is motivation around the timing of it that really affects the credibility and strength of the case,” he added.

Mr de Dassel says that she intends to plead not guilty to all charges.

Daisley was denied bail by Magistrate Jaqueline Milledge, who said the allegations were “quite disturbing”, despite her father offering to pay a surety of $10,000 (£5,700) to ensure she would return to court if she was granted conditional freedom.

Mr Daisley is well-known as the breeder of thoroughbred racehorse Choisir, which became an international champion after winning at the prestigious Royal Ascot races in England.

His daughter will remain in custody on remand for nearly two months until her next court date on August 23.

Daisley’s business was launched on the back of a popular 14-day detoxification and weight management programme focused on organic wellbeing.

The website also includes an introduction penned by Daisley which explains she was a “resident mojito girl” in her youth.

A post on Instagram refers to a previous troubled relationship with alcohol, with a recent post declaring she had spent 223 days sober.

Sisters of murdered 6-year-old say killer’s 15-year sentence too “lenient”

July 1, 2022 by www.newsweek.com Leave a Comment

The sisters of murdered 6-year-old Rikki Neave have called for a review of his killer’s “lenient” 15-year prison sentence.

James Watson was 13 when he lured Rikki into the woods in Peterborough, England, before strangling him to death on November 28, 1994.

Watson, now 41, was handed life in prison with a minimum term of 15 years at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, or Old Bailey, on June 24.

Rikki’s three sisters – Rochelle, Rebecca and Sheridan – said the sentence, which includes a two-year reduction for the time Watson spent in custody, is “too lenient.”

The family is disputing the court’s decision to sentence Watson as if he were a child because the crime was committed when he was a teenager.

They wrote in an online petition : “James Watson evaded justice for over 27 years. He was able to live a normal life.

“This killer shouldn’t have been allowed to have been sentenced as a child. He will serve 12.5 years for ruining our whole lives.

“Me and my other siblings all suffer with mental health problems due to this.

“I really feel that the sentence given was far too lenient and that he will always be a danger to young children and young men and of course members of the public.”

Rikki’s family urged members of the public to write to the Attorney General’s Office of the United Kingdom to request a formal review of Watson’s sentence.

At the Old Bailey last month, the court heard Watson would only be released after serving his sentence – and once the parole board was satisfied he would no longer present a risk to the public.

The Change.org petition, which was launched Monday, had received more than 425 signatures as of Friday afternoon.

Michelle Wright, who commented on the petition, said she was friends with Rikki and that his murderer “doesn’t deserve to ever be freed.”

“Being a friend of Rikki’s at the time and living on Welland Estate, the impact on the community was huge,” Wright said.

“All of us local kids’ childhoods were affected by this.

“We were all taught to be wary of adults, particularly those who were childless.

“No longer allowed to play out on the streets. Going out in groups and not alone.

“We had restricted freedom because our parents wanted us to be safe, while our friend’s killer wasn’t even an adult!!!

“He’s had too many years of freedom, has shown no remorse for what he did.

“He doesn’t deserve to ever be freed. R.I.P Rikki. I will never forget you.”

Paul Ivory also commented: “He had many years of freedom he knew what he had done and frankly 15 years is not enough. He robbed [his] life.”

The Guardian reported that Watson has several previous convictions, including sexual assault, and was only suspected in the case in 2016 after DNA connected him to Rikki. The breakthrough came after Rikki’s mother, Ruth, was acquitted of his murder in 1996.

Major Dylan Rounds update after neighbor, 59, arrested following mystery disappearance of missing 19-year-old

July 1, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

CHARGES have been filed by federal prosecutors in the mysterious case involving missing 19-year-old Dylan Rounds.

Rounds’ family last heard from the 19-year-old by phone on May 28 before he seemingly vanished without a trace.

Court document obtained by The Sun showed charges against Rounds’ neighbor, 59-year-old James Brenner with one count of possessing a firearm while being a felon.

The complaint was filed on Wednesday in the US District Court in Salt Lake City and does not make any mention of Brenner being a person of interest or suspect in Rounds’ disappearance.

New details about Rounds’ disappearance have been revealed from an FBI affidavit in the complaint.

Rounds was living on a farm near Lucin, Utah when his family reported him missing on May 30 after Rounds told them on the one that he was “putting the grain truck in a shelter.”

The complaint read that the shelter for the grain truck was on land where Brenner was squatting in a trailer and that the two had known each other.

A search warrant was executed by the FBI on June 16 at Brenner’s trailer, finding ammunition, ignition caps and black powder associated with muzzleloader firearms.

The FBI interview a friend of Brenner’s on June 20, who explained that after Rounds disappeared, Brenner brought three black powder firearms and asked the friend to keep them.

“When [friend] asked ‘why’, Brenner stated that he needed to do this for ‘his own safety’ and that ‘the last time he had trouble with the law they took everything from him, and he did not want the things he had left to be taken again’”, said FBI special agent Jeremiah Fowlke in the complaint.

DESPERATE SEARCH

In a statement , the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said, “Box Elder County volunteer teams have logged over 300 hours searching, covering over 3,000 miles (not including the hours and miles traveled to and from the remote search areas).

“Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Deputies have also been searching around the clock, weekdays and weekends. So far, detectives have spent over 650 hours investigating this case.

“These numbers continue to increase daily and do not include the time and resources contributed by assisting law enforcement agencies and search teams.”

In the meantime, Rounds’ parents are asking anyone with information to come forward and have offered a reward.

“We need to have something,” said Cooley.

“We need a direction. Even if you don’t think it’s important, the smallest little piece of something could help. Please tell us.”

‘WEIRD RUN-IN’

Dylan was last seen working on his farm, where he reportedly had a strange encounter with an unknown man days earlier.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck,” Rounds’ aunt Katie Wells told East Idaho News.

She added that on the Wednesday before his disappearance, Rounds spoke with several family members on the phone about the man.

“He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically.

“Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride.”

According to Wells, the man was seen again in Montello, Nevada a few days later, asking about Rounds.

Other reports indicate that the mystery man may have received a ride to the teen’s trailer on Saturday.

TEXAS SCHOOL SHOOTING: LIVE UPDATES

The whereabouts of Elijah Cruz Torres, 10, were unknown in the aftermath of the second-deadliest mass shooting of a school in U.S. history since Sandy Hook Elementary. Her family confirmed the worst to Fox News Wednesday.

Annabelle Guadalupe Rodriguez, 10, who did not make contact with her family in the hours after suspected gunman Salvador Ramos, a student of Uvalde High School, carried out his shooting spree, was also among those who died, her father told Fox 7 Austin .

Several dozen family members were gathered at a local recreation center near Robb Elementary School Tuesday, which served as a reunification center, as their children were also missing.

As they eagerly await news of their child or children’s whereabouts, the prolonged wait has worried some to expect the worst.

Two police officers were shot during the school shooting but are expected to survive, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

WHO IS THE TEXAS SCHOOL SHOOTER? WHAT WE KNOW

President Biden , speaking from Air Force One earlier Tuesday evening, responded to the shooting saying: “to lose a child is like having a piece of your soul ripped away.”

“There’s a hollowness in your chest, you feel like you’re being sucked into it, never able to get out. Suffocating. It’s never quite the same,” he told a group of reporters after first learning of the shooting on his return from his Asia trip. He also called for more gun restrictions.
