Students tired of online learning

Seeing his son get excited about online learning, Thu decided to register him for an English online class run by an overseas Vietnamese who teaches via Zoom.

However, the boy later said he was overloaded and tired of online learning.

The same thing happened with her older son.

“It was easier to study online last year, when by sons were in fourth and eighth grades. They prefer online study because they did not have to get up early to go to school. But things are different now,” she said.

“As the kids are in the final grades of primary and secondary levels, they have to do more exercises and feel stressful,” she explained.

As schools have closed amid the new Covid-19 outbreak and organized online classes, Thu has had to buy one more laptop for the younger son. They also need a smartphone, in case of computer troubles.

Thu’s older son plans to take the entrance exam to the high school for the gifted, majoring in foreign languages. He has three learning periods in the morning and another three in the afternoon. He also has two English, one mathematics and one literature lessons with private tutors a week.

“My son complains that he feels tired and suffers from eyestrain as he has to sit too long in front of computer. However, he has no other choice than studying hard because he will have to take one of the two most important exams in his life this summer,” she said.

Thu hopes that the teachers at school will re-design their lesson plans so students don’t have to look at computer screen intently for too long.

La Mai Huyen, a mother in Hanoi, also is embarrassed as her children have to study online.

“My daughter is in second grade and she could not study online without the parents’ help. I have to leave a laptop at home for my son, a seventh grader, to study online and I am insecure about that. I am afraid that he would use the laptop to access the websites with bad content,” she explained.

Huyen also complained that she has become busier since the children have shifted to study online.

“I have to check notices from teachers sent to my phone regularly and I have to print documents that serve my children’s lessons,” she complained.

“This puts pressure on me. My mother urges me to study harder and harder all the time,“ he said.

Chennai, Feb 25: Students of class 9, 10 and Plus One in Tamil Nadu will not have to take the exams, Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced in the assembly on Thursday as he declared them “all pass” this academic year in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Taking into consideration the unusual situation being faced by teachers and students, the views of parents besides the opinion of experts, the students of standards: 9, 10 and 11, facing the annual/board exams in 2020-21 education year, are announced as passed without writing the examinations,” the chief minister said.

Throughout the year the students were taught through the state-run Kalvi Tholaikatchi (education TV channel).

“The syllabus was downsized by taking into account the practical difficulties of the teachers and students,” Palaniswami added. As the entire world battled against the pandemic, the Tamil Nadu government ordered the closure of schools to prevent the spread of the virus.

International students from the College of International Education and Exchange at Tianjin Normal University celebrated Lantern Festival on Wednesday.

The festival, a traditional Chinese holiday that marks the end of Spring Festival, falls on Friday this year.

The students organized a series of performances, made lanterns and broadcast their celebrations online for students at the Confucius College at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, a college that has faculty members from Tianjin Normal.

The Kenyan students also presented performances and broadcast online for their international counterparts in Tianjin.

“It’s really fantastic for me to make such a great folk art item,” she said. “Tianjin is really beautiful, and the university made me feel at home during the series of events.”

The event was organized by the College of International Education and Exchange at Tianjin Normal University for international students who chose not to go back for their home countries for winter vacation amid the pandemic.

Students troubled as teachers struggle with online, offline classes

February 26, 2021 by ahmedabadmirror.indiatimes.com Leave a Comment

As lectures are live streamed for online students , notes are not uploaded. Teachers are forced to take extra class in case of internet disruptions

Schools have reopened after almost a year and online classes are being conducted in tandem with classroom lectures for the convenience of all the students. But those attending the live streaming of the classroom sessions from the comfort of their homes are facing unique problems. Since classroom windows are kept open for ventilation, the sunlight falling on the blackboard makes it difficult for online students to read what is written on it.

“Besides, poor internet connectivity hampers the classroom sessions and the teachers are caught between complaints from students in the class and those attending lectures from home,” said a student. To make matters worse, the teachers have stopped uploading study material online like they used to previously since the classes are live-streamed. So in case online students miss out on a few points due to bad internet connection, they do not have an uploaded material to refer to.

parent of a Class 7 student. Fr Xavier Amalraj, the principal of St Xavier’s Loyola, told Mirror that after the parents approached him, the school has started finding ways to control the lighting in the classrooms, something they did not think of in pre-Covid times.

“We are covering window panes with paper shields so that sunlight is not reflected on to the blackboard,” he said.

Asked about the issue of uploading study material online, he said, “Live streaming is the only way both online and offline classes can be conducted simultaneously. If online classes are held the way they used to be, teachers will struggle with conducting separate lectures,” he said.

Even though the state education department has allowed schools to conduct offline classes, very few parents have been sending their kids to school due to fear of Covid-19. Teachers, on the other hand, complain that it gets difficult for them to conduct interactive sessions with the class split into online and offline sections.

“About 99% of the times our attention is on the students in front of our eyes and so those online students remain a neglected lot. But one has to conduct classes both online and offline since very few parents are sending their kids to school. So, students are at a disadvantage here,” said Ruchi Sadana, a teacher with Prakash Higher Secondary School .

Sabina Sawhney, Head Mistress at DPS Bopal said, “There are frequent technical glitches and many students miss what is explained in the class. So we conduct extra classes for them. The work has doubled.” Nirav

Int’l assistance important to Central African Republic issues: Ambassador

New York (VNA) – Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy , Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, on February 24 underscored the importance of international assistance in the conflict-affected Central African Republic at an UN Security Council (UNSC) videoconference, which discussed ongoing violence in the country.

Jean-Pierre Lacroix , UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, told the conference that the Central African Republic has continued to suffer from violence despite the announcement of the official result of the presidential election in December 2020.

Citing important progress in recent weeks in combating the armed coalition group known as Coalition des Patriotes pour le Changement, he said the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) is providing security to thousands of internally displaced persons, while also supporting efforts to safeguard the democratic order.

The Central African Republic has now become the most dangerous place for humanitarian work, with over 46 percent of worldwide incidents registered by international non-governmental organisations reported in the country.

In his speech, Quy said Vietnam backs the recent efforts of the UN as well as of regional and subregional organisations, including the African Union, the Economic Community of Central African States, and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, to support the Central African Republic.

He took the occasion to urge all concerned parties to resolve differences in a peaceful manner. This effort towards political stability and reconciliation must go hand in hand with the promotion of trust and confidence, he noted.

Calling for the sides involved to respect the election results and handle differences through dialogues, representatives from other UNSC members stressed the importance of implementing the 2019 peace agreement between the local government and armed groups to facilitate long-term political measures.

They supported the efforts made by the African Union and the MINUSCA in the matter./.
