salesforce: Salesforce layoffs cross 8,000; COO says the company may cut more jobs

March 25, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

The job cuts continue to ravage the technology industry globally. Recently, social networking giant Facebook and ecommerce behemoth Amazon announced that they will be cutting more jobs. With this, job cuts at Amazon will touch 27,000 and those at Facebook cross 20,000. For Amazon this is the third round of job cuts and Facebook second.

Now Salesforce reportedly may see another round of job cuts. According to a report in Bloomberg, Salesforce may go for more job cuts as the company continues to focus on improving profitability, its chief operating officer Brian Millham said.

“The structure of the organization — if we feel like it needs to change and reshape — we’re going to make those moves to drive the efficiencies,” Millham reportedly said in an interview. He added that consultant Bain & Co., which Salesforce is working with to review the business, has yet to provide final recommendations.

Announced job cuts in January 2023
In January this year, Salesforce announced that it would eliminate 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 employees. This is the company’s biggest-ever headcount reduction. It is also closing offices across the US. According to the report, a group of activist investors who have taken stakes in the company are pushing to cut costs further in search of increased earnings and improved profit margins.

Millham joined the company as its 13th employee in 1999 and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2022. He has taken over some of the operational and customer-facing responsibilities previously held by co-chief executive officer Bret Taylor before he left the company earlier this year, including appearances on earnings calls.

“From the very beginning this was a performance-oriented culture,” Millham said. “We may have drifted a bit from that during the pandemic as we took care of our employees and made sure everyone was staying healthy.” He added that he wants Salesforce to have both a performance and wellness culture. “We feel pretty good about what we’ve been able to deliver so far,” Millham said, before adding “it’s not a job that’s done by any stretch,” he reportedly added.

BenQ Zowie XL2566K gaming monitor review: Strictly for gamers

March 22, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Rating
Critic

3.5

The needs of PC gamers are different when it comes to a monitor. The refresh rate and motion compensation take priority compared to the colours and saturation. The design of the monitor and the overall gaming aesthetics are other important factors for serious gamers. BenQ, the company known for making a wide range of monitors tailored for different needs has a dedicated gaming monitor lineup called Zowie and they’ve recently launched the XL2566K monitor, its flagship gaming monitor under the lineup.

While it is a gaming monitor its experience has been aimed mainly at FPS and esports gamers and to cater for their needs it comes loaded with features like several FPS modes, higher refresh rate, adjustable stand both tilt and height and above all, it also comes with a dedicated remote controller that lets users easily change modes and adjust settings.

But there are certain things that feel quite archaic like the TN panel. We have been testing this monitor for almost over a month now and here’s our review:

Design

It is a gaming monitor and Benq has hit the right spot between making it too gamers-centric and too professional. The design of the XL2566K is something like a middle ground and it can be a good fit for most scenarios. To be more specific, the base of the monitor is relatively smaller compared to other monitors and we liked it because it leaves room for accessories like a keyboard, mouse, etc. The base is also heavy and comes with a rotating mount for the stand that lets the monitor move left and right smoothly without actually moving the base. Then the spring mechanism of the height adjustment is good and accurate too. The entire design takes the weight of the monitor pretty well.

Also, the setup processor for the monitor is simple. Simply placing the entire parts together makes them click and Benq has also used bigger screws for the base that makes it easier to set up just by hand.

Talking about other design aspects, the monitor comes with two extended detachable shields that prevent users from getting distracted by waves, flashlights and other activities around them.

The monitor also has no shortage of ports, but they are a bit outdated. It comes with two HDMI 2.0 ports, USB Port and DisplayPort. But, being a new monitor, we would have loved to see HDMI 2.1 ports and at least one Thunderbolt port.

Overall, the design is good enough for most needs and it won’t disappoint most gamers.

Display and performance

Zowie XL2566K has a 24.5-inch FHD panel with 360Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time. But, it’s a TN panel and it comes with the company’s proprietary motion reduction technology called DyAC+.

For a gamer, the 360Hz refresh rate with 0.5ms response time is more than enough specification to consider buying a monitor. Other stuff becomes almost irrelevant. However, it’s not actually true for the real world as a monitor is used for other stuff too like watching movies, browsing, etc.

The 1080p stone age era TN panel can’t be beaten by any modern panel technology when it comes to offering speeds. TN panels are fast, responsive and often a good choice for gamers.
Basically, the main thing to consider here is pixel responsiveness. All the other stuff like HDR lighting effects, 4K resolution and RGB lighting becomes not so necessary.

But, what is it like to game on Benq’s flagship gaming monitor? Well, the monitor comes loaded with features that allow users to make the gaming experience better. For instance, it comes with Advanced Motion Acceleration (AMA) to boost performance. There are three settings for AMA — High, Premium and Off. Apart from that, there’s also the option to customise the AMA level as per the need. We played the games on all settings and most of them worked fine without any issues. We liked the High setting better as it offers a better balance between response time and ghosting.

DyAc+ backlight strobing technology makes things even better for this monitor. It adds more clarity and reduces motion blur as well. It has also three settings and we barely managed to notice much difference between them. For what it’s worth, the DyAc+ does its job well.

In addition to these manual controls, the monitor also has a lot of other preset settings based on the requirements.

Not everything is good here. On one hand, the monitor does a really good job at gaming, but at the same time, the TN panel’s limitation to produce vibrant colours, contrast and details makes this monitor less likely a monitor for multimedia consumption. You get acceptable details and sharpness here. Viewing angles, brightness and contrast are just average and that too by grace marks.

Verdict

Rs 58,500 is a lot of money to ask for a monitor that has a TN panel in it. However, there’s a core purpose for using that panel as it’s still unbeatable when it comes to offering speeds while gaming. One can’t complain about anything here if the needs are aligned only with gaming. However, if it isn’t and you want something more versatile with better colours and contrast, then there are other good options available for you.
