Downton Abbey

Creator Julian Fellowes brings gentle human drama to the British class system in Downton Abbey , which focuses equally on the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants living at the titular estate. It’s an engrossing domestic drama that’s more concerned with relationships than social change, although the six seasons take place over the course of 15 years and chronicle shifting attitudes in British society.

The show is full of charming characters, from the eccentric, outspoken Crawley matriarch Violet (Maggie Smith) to the stalwart, stuffy butler Mr. Carson (Jim Carter).

The Expanse

The future depicted in sci-fi series The Expanse is vast and awe-inspiring, but it’s also full of inequality, class struggle, and corruption, just like any system set up by humans would be. Based on the popular novels, The Expanse focuses on the battles between humans living on Earth and in colonies on Mars, with people who work as miners in the asteroid belt caught in the middle.

There’s also a strange alien threat, but the smart, complex series is more interested in the political conflicts between rival human factions.

Felicity

Before they became titans of big-budget genre movies, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves co-created charming, emotionally engaging college drama Felicity . Keri Russell stars as the title character, who makes an impulsive decision to follow her high school crush—whom she’s never spoken to—from California to New York City for college.

There, she’s embroiled in a love triangle between that brooding crush, Ben (Scott Speedman), and the friendly, neurotic Noel (Scott Foley). It’s a sensitive, low-key drama about figuring out who you are and what you truly want in life.

Fleabag

U.K. import Fleabag is a perfect example of the benefits of the concentrated, self-contained model of British TV series. Creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge tells a bitingly funny and heartbreakingly sad story within the first season’s six episodes. The unnamed main character navigates her disastrous personal life while making frequent snarky asides to the audience. She even matures a bit in the belated second season, which tells an equally hilarious and poignant story of its own.

Friday Night Lights

High school football encapsulates the entirety of life in the small-town Texas drama Friday Night Lights . Wise, empathetic coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) understands that his responsibility extends far beyond just teaching teenagers the fundamentals of football. He guides these young souls as best he can, providing a guidepost for people who are just starting to figure out their lives.

Over the course of five seasons, Friday Night Lights features plenty of amazing comebacks, astonishing displays of skill, and stunning defeats—both on the field and off.

How I Met Your Mother

It took nine seasons for Ted Mosby to finally tell his children How I Met Your Mother , but the journey is worth all the detours. Bob Saget narrates the sitcom as the older version of Ted (Josh Radnor), a hapless New York City bachelor who cycles through various ill-fitting matches on the way to finding true love.

It’s a clever, funny take on the ups and downs of relationships, for Ted as well as for his occasional love interest Robin (Cobie Smulders), his womanizing friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), and his more settled married friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan).

The Kids in the Hall

The Canadian sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall may never have become breakout stars like other sketch performers, but their series has been influential on generations of comedians. The surreal yet silly sketches feature the five performers taking on a variety of roles, including almost all of the female parts, with notable recurring characters including the Chicken Lady and Buddy Cole.

The Kids’ influence has been so long-lasting that Amazon revived the show for a new season nearly 30 years after it initially ended, with the Kids returning as funny and weird as ever.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

One of the best Amazon original series , The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an exuberant love letter to the pop culture of the 1950s and ’60s. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino tells the story of the title character (played by Rachel Brosnahan), a privileged New York City housewife who gives up her life of comfort to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

The show is full of rapid-fire witticisms delivered by fascinating characters in colorful costumes. It’s a celebration of the time period with insight from the present.

NewsRadio

While it was overshadowed by other major 1990s sitcoms, NewsRadio easily stands alongside the popular hits of the era. It has a quirkier sensibility while delivering the same kind of camaraderie and character development as other contemporary shows.

The ensemble cast includes Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, Phil Hartman, Khandi Alexander, and more, playing the employees of an AM news station owned by the eccentric Jimmy James (Stephen Root). The show mixes absurdity and warmth, with funny bits of wordplay and characters worth caring about.

The Night Manager

The title character of The Night Manager does actually work as an overnight supervisor at an upscale hotel, but this isn’t a show about the challenges of high-end hospitality. Before he was a night manager, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) was in the British military, and that’s why he’s recruited by an intelligence officer (Olivia Colman) to go undercover in the operation of an international arms dealer (Hugh Laurie).

Based on a novel by espionage master John le Carré, The Night Manage r is a slick, thrilling miniseries with a stellar cast that finds suspense and intrigue even in the smallest interactions.

Timotheé Chalamet Begs Apple to Call Him in Latest Apple TV+ Ad

February 6, 2023 by www.macrumors.com Leave a Comment

Apple today shared a third Apple TV+ ad starring Timotheé Chalamet, with the actor again lamenting that he does not have an ‌Apple TV+‌ show or movie.

In the “Ladybug” spot, Chalamet sits in a garden going through ‌Apple TV+‌ content and complimenting the actors that Apple has worked with. “Apple, you wound me,” he says. “Clearly you understand art.”

“Beauty is such a fragile thing,” he goes on. “Often overlooked.” At the end of the ad, Chalamet once again begs Apple to give him a call.

This is the third ad that Apple has shared starring Timotheé Chalamet , and it follows both the “Call Me” and “A Taste” ads that were shared in January. Apple’s ad campaign appears to be leading up to the announcement of an ‌Apple TV+‌ show or movie starring Chalamet, though nothing has been announced at this point.

Apple used a similar advertising tactic with Jon Hamm before he was announced as a cast member of “The Morning Show” in 2022.

‘It was quite an elegant fall’: Holly Willoughby collapses to the floor on This Morning after trying to demonstrate her party trick

February 6, 2023 by www.dailymail.co.uk Leave a Comment

Holly Willoughby fell to the floor on Monday as she tried to demonstrate her party trick on This Morning.

The TV presenter, 41, was left red-faced after attempting to throw her leg up in the air and land in the splits during the break.

She ended up collapsing to the floor instead after her knee gave way and burst into laughter.

The cameras still managed to catch everything however, and Phillip Schofield delighted in showing viewers at home the clip.

Holly and Phillip were discussing Alison Hammond’s star-studded birthday bash on Saturday, which Holly attended.

Party trick: The TV presenter, 41, was left red-faced after attempting to throw her leg up in the air and land in the splits during the break

While regaling Phillip with the gossip from the party, Holly said: ‘There was one performance of the night where there was a dance troupe there and they did, what I’ve just discovered is called the death drop.

‘One leg goes up and then bang you land in the splits. I may have just tried to reenact it. I might have slipped.’

She explained: ‘I buckled under the weight. My knee went. It was quite an elegant fall, I didn’t show anything.’

Phillip also explained why he wasn’t at Alison’s birthday celebration, revealing that his plans had clashed.

He said: ‘It was [my daughter] Ruby’s birthday and she had a massive birthday party so I missed out on the party, but that was lovely to go to too and she had a ball.’

It comes after Holly was given a shock when she was evacuated from the Dancing On Ice studios late last month.

Holly, who hosts the show with Phillip Schofield , 60, was having her hair and make-up done and was still wearing curlers when she was whisked outside due to a fire alert.

All of the cast and crew were forced to flee the building as alarms rang out at the purpose-built studio at Bovingdon Airfield in Hertfordshire.

Hysterics: She ended up collapsing to the floor instead after her knee gave way and burst into laughter

Hilarious: The cameras still managed to catch everything however, and Phillip Schofield delighted in showing viewers at home the clip

Creative director Dan Whiston told The Sun : ‘Last weekend, the entire Dancing on Ice cast, production and crew had to evacuate the studio after a fire alarm went off.

‘Many of the celebrities, including Holly, had to brave the cold weather outside whilst safety checks were carried out.

‘The alarm sounded, and everyone sped outside into the car park. We were show mid-preparation when it happened, so quite a few of us weren’t even fully dressed, and Holly still had her hair rollers in.’

Dan added that it was a false alarm caused by some curing tongs, joking: ‘You could say it was a bit of a hairy situation for a while.’

ITV declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline. MailOnline also contacted a representative for Holly for comment.

Love Island stars who had sex in villa – secret hook-up, one-time wonder and show record

February 6, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Winter Love Island is back with a bang and its fair to say this series has been one of the most dramatic to date.

With new host Maya Jama at the helm, the latest bunch of sexy singletons have been jetted off to sunny South Africa in an effort to find the partner of their dreams.

After three weeks in the lavish villa, viewers have watched one couple drop the L-bomb, another caught getting frisky under the sheets as well as some interesting love triangles emerging.

But with a new spin-off and a new series comes a slew of new changes which included ITV bosses censoring some of the steamier scenes on the show.

But before these changes were implemented, sexy romps were common place in the sizzling villas, with one couple even spotted getting down and dirty on top of the covers while the other Islander watch.

As the new series continues to heat up, Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside the programme’s steamiest moments.

Breaking in the villa

All the way back in 2015, Love Island ’s first couple to get dirty under the covers was Hannah Elizabeth and her partner Jon Clark – who finished the series by getting engaged, before splitting up after the show.

After declaring to the other Islanders that they were officially an item, the loved-up couple “christened the house” in the Hideaway.

But after taking things to the next step, the pair struggled to keep their hands off each other for the rest of the series.

One of their most memorable scenes on the show was when the couple started going at it in the shared bedroom in front of their mortified housemates while they were trying to sleep.

During one session, Jon awkwardly shouted at his fellow roommates: “I can’t stop guys, you’ll just have to deal with it.”

30 steamy sessions

Loved-up couple Alex and Olivia Bowen proved that you really can find love on the hugely popular ITV2 reality dating show, after they tied a knot and welcomed a beautiful baby boy.

But it’s fair to say it was lust at first sight for the happy couple, who boasted that they had sex in the villa 30 times during the second series of the show – despite the fact that Alex wasn’t even on the show for 30 days.

And it’s clear to see that their secret activities weren’t missed by their fellow roommates, after former Islander Terry Walsh revealed the pair had so much sex on the show that producers had to keep topping up the condom supply.

He recalled: “They were the top sh*****s by far. They were at it all the time. There were condoms everywhere. The producers were re-stocking them every morning.”

Secret hook-up

But that wasn’t the only steamy action to happen during the second series, after Olivia Bowen shocked viewers by having sex with Rykard Jenkins in secret.

Weeks before her future husband walked into the villa, Olivia secretly shacked up with the TV hunk in the bedroom.

What made matters worse was that the girl Rykard was getting together with, Rachel Fenton, was sleeping in the bed next to them at the time with no one the wiser about their late-night activities.

The incident itself shook the villa after Rachel was booted out of the villa by the public, where she was later informed of Rykard’s moment with Olivia by late host Caroline Flack on the spin-off show Aftersun.

Despite the controversial moment, Rachel and Rykard stayed together for 18 months before they called it quits.

One-time wonder

But Olivia wasn’t the only stunning girl to fall for Alex’s charms in the Spanish villa, and bombshell Zara Holland made sure to shoot her shot with the smoke show on the programme.

Just weeks after entering the villa, the blonde bombshell decided to treat Alex to a wild night of fun in the Hideaway after winning a prize in a group challenge.

After a steamy night of passion, Zara was sensationally stripped of her Miss GB crown the next morning.

Two years on from the show, Zara admitted that her steamy night of passion had “destroyed her life.”

She claimed she is the only contestant in Love Island history to have paid the ultimate price for their saucy moment on the show.

Ahead of the third series of the reality show, Zara warned upcoming Islanders: “I would say to any contestants this series, don’t do anything that you would regret later in life.

“Sometimes things in the moment never leave you and it can be hard to get over.”

23 bonks

It’s fair to say the second series of the ITV show was the raunchiest series to hit the airwaves to date.

But Olivia and Alex weren’t the only couple to get it on in the villa, eventual winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey – who are now married with two kids – admitted to having sex 23 times on the show.

Although the couple did admit they found having sex on-screen “daunting” at first, which prevented them from being intimate until half way through the show.

Despite meeting on the very first day, Cara revealed: “It took us a while to do it, longer than most people. He had to wait well over a week for a kiss.”

These days, the couple’s sex life couldn’t be more different after she confessed that the pair often struggle to find time for sex after welcoming two children.

Sex on the covers

Yet another wild entry from series two is Terry Walsh and Emma-Jane Woodhams’ wild night of passion after the pair brazenly had sex on top of the covers in full view of their fellow housemates.

Emma told her fellow Islanders their romp wouldn’t be shown on the series if they got to it out in the open.

But much to her disappointment, producers decided to air the raunchy scene which prompted seven separate complaints to watchdog and Ofcom, claiming that it could cause offence too soon after the watershed lifted.

At the time, ITV defended their decision to air the scene, explaining that there was a “very well-established audience expectation of sexual activity” which included a warning before and during the show.

It added that similar incidents had taken place more than 20 times throughout the series, which soon cleared telly bosses of any wrongdoings.

Raunchy day session

Loyal fans of the show will remember eventual winners of series three – Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay – were at it like rabbits during their time in the villa.

Viewers soon became accustomed to their nightly fix of sex, but the pair quickly took things one step further after they squeezed in a quick day session in bed too.

Amber – who was coupled up with Nathan Joeseph at the time – could be heard mumbling: “I feel f***ing bad on Nathan,” before quickly caving to temptation, adding: “Just get on top of me.”

A proud Kem quickly hopped into bed with her, admitting: “It’s gonna be very quick.”

And luckily for Kem it was, after Nathan strolled through the bedroom just moments after they’d finished as Amber threw her bikini bottoms to the side.

On top for ’20 minutes’

And they weren’t the only couple to rock the bed in series three, after Montana Brown and Alex Beattie were spotted getting dirty in the Hideaway.

Despite being single for most of her time in the villa, Montana met Alex in Casa Amor and stayed with him until the grand final.

After their wild night of passion, the brunette beauty shared all the juicy gossip with the girls the next morning.

She said: “Somebody got some last night. Just went on top… for 20 minutes.”
