Artificial intelligence will replace humans

A variety of foods and beverages that are marketed as “sugar-free” or “diet,” as well as soft drinks and baked goods, use artificial sweeteners and other sugar substitutes to replace table sugar (sucrose). There are several types of sugar substitutes. Artificial sweeteners are just one example of one type of sugar substitute.

There are some sweeteners that are marketed as “natural”, even if they are processed or refined. Example: stevia preparations . And some artificial sweeteners are made using natural sources – sucralose is derived from sugar [1] .

Throughout the years, artificial sweeteners have come under intense scrutiny. Some researchers believe that artificial sweeteners may cause a variety of health problems, including cancer [2] [3] .

According to the National Cancer Institute and other health agencies, no scientific evidence suggests that artificial sweeteners approved for use in the United States cause cancer or other serious health problems [4] . And, according to numerous studies, artificial sweeteners may be safe in limited quantities, even for pregnant women [5] .

And in a recent study, it has been shown that artificial sweetener may trigger anxiety [6] .

So, did you know that artificial sweeteners in traditional sweets may cause anxiety?

Does Artificial Sweetener Trigger Anxiety?

Here are the important points from the study:

Point 1 : According to a recent study by researchers at Florida State University , aspartame may have a detrimental effect on anxiety.

The artificial sweetener aspartame is widely used in thousands of drinks and food products throughout the world. It has a sweetener content approximately 200 times greater than sucrose or table sugar. In spite of its calorie content, aspartame is likely to be consumed less than table sugar due to its sweetness [7] .

Many traditional sweets that are avaialble in mithai stores in India contain aspartame [8] .

Point 2 : According to the researchers, mice that consumed aspartame experienced changes in their amygdala and showed anxiety-like behaviour afterward.

Point 3 : In their study, the researchers found that the drug diazepam could effectively alleviate anxiety in the amygdala, an area of the brain responsible for regulating anxiety and fear.

Point 4 : In the study, mice consumed an amount of aspartame comparable to what some individuals consume: two to four small, 8-ounce cans of aspartame-sweetened diet soda each day .

Point 5 : Furthermore, the study showed that changes to the amygdala persist for up to two generations through males, and that diazepam was effective in relieving anxiety for up to two generations thereafter. According to the researchers, the changes to the amygdala – as well as the response to diazepam – were retained in mice exposed to aspartame and in their offspring.

On A Final Note…

According to the results of studies in mice, similar outcomes are likely to occur in humans. However, further studies in human subjects are required to confirm this hypothesis.

The Russian military likely has a “limited number” of “Zoopark” radars left and may struggle to regenerate more of the counter-battery systems that have played a key role for both sides in the war, according to British intelligence.

Last week, Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a video of its forces destroying a Russian Zoopark-2 radar system near the Donetsk region. Zoopark systems are able to track the origin of enemy artillery in order to direct counter fire.

“After transmitting the coordinates of the placement of the counter-battery complex, one of the units of the Defense Forces was hit by fire,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces said of the strike.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense assessed in its latest intelligence update on Friday that “Efforts by both sides to neutralise their opponent’s counter-battery radars have been a constant element of the conflict” since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

“These systems are relatively few in number but are a significant force multiplier,” British intelligence wrote. “They allow commanders to rapidly locate and strike enemy artillery.”

“However, because they have an active electromagnetic signature, they are vulnerable to being detected and destroyed,” the update continued. “Russia has lost at least six ZOOPARK-1M and likely only has a very limited number left in Ukraine.

“Regenerating counter-battery radar fleets is likely a key priority for both sides, but Russia will likely struggle because the systems rely on supplies of high-tech electronics which have been disrupted by sanctions.”

Russia’s economy originally showed some resilience against the long list of Western sanctions imposed at the start of the war, but the bans have limited the Kremlin’s ability to quickly regenerate its ever-decreasing military supply.

In February, the U.S. Department of Treasury announced new sanctions on 22 individuals and 83 entities specifically targeting “the metals and mining sector” in Russia. The additional effort “further isolates Russia from the international economy and hinders Russia’s ability to obtain the capital, materials, technology, and support that sustain its war against Ukraine, which has killed thousands and displaced millions of people,” read a release from the Treasury Department.

The Kremlin has been able to escape some of the grip of sanctions, thanks to a few of its allies. Iran is set to send additional Iranian-made Shahed-131 and -136 drones to Moscow after the two countries met this week, and Chinese-made “kamikaze” drones could reach the Russian defense ministry by next month .

There are two variations of the Zoopark radar systems used by the Russian military. The OE Data Integration Network (ODIN) describes the Zoopark-1M, which was originally developed for the Russian military in 1989, as a mobile artillery system that can detect mortar and howitzer gunfire sources, as well as tactical ballistic missiles.

The Zoopark-2 system, on the other hand, can detect mortars, cannon artillery, and rocket and tactical missile batteries, and was first introduced in 1999.

“The Zoopark-2 basically addressed accuracy issues with the Zoopark-1 via new software and hardware that make topographical surveying more effective,” Jordan Cohen, policy analyst at Cato Institute, previously told Newsweek via email.

While British intelligence reported on Friday that Ukraine had destroyed one of Russia’s Zoopark-1M systems last week, the Ukraine Armed Forces said on Twitter that it had destroyed a Zoopark-2.

Ukrainian forces have been using AN/TPQ-37 “Firefinder” radar systems provided by the U.S. for counter-battery attacks, a system fully developed in 1980, according to ODIN. The Kremlin claimed last week that its forces had destroyed three of the systems in a 24-hour span, roughly two days before Ukraine reported destroying a Zoopark-2.

Newsweek has reached out to the Russian defense ministry for comment.

Alarming figures seen by The Sun on Sunday lays bare the sheer scale of the challenge they face.

Currently, there are 1,068 Albanian convicts living in Britain – either in jail or out in the community having been released – and facing deportation.

Around one in three of them – 345 – claim they are modern slaves in order to block their removal.

Another 268 are claiming asylum, while 95 are appealing their rejected asylum claims and many more making other legal representations.

Just 25 Albanian criminals have no outstanding legal claims and can actually be put on a plane and booted out of the country.

A source close to Ms Braverman said: “This is a shocking example of the legal obstacles thrown in the way of our immigration enforcement teams who are trying to remove dangerous foreign criminals.

“That includes the abuse of our modern slavery system.

“Nobody can believe more than a third of despicable Albanian criminals who are about to be deported are all genuine modern slaves.

“Yet that’s what the Left would have you believe because we can’t disprove their nonsense and the law is so blatantly weighted in their favour.

“We need to break this cycle for the security of the British people.”

A migrant claiming to be a victim of modern slavery usually has their deportation case paused while their claim is heard.

But massive backlogs in the system means it takes an average of 561 days to have the claims heard.

Ministers have already announced new measures to crack down on the abuse of our anti trafficking laws.

Case workers have been told that they must provide objective proof a person is a modern slave to grant the status – not just a suspicion.

While the government has made it “crystal clear” Albania is a safe third country – so those claiming to be victims of modern slavery can have their cases heard there.

Ms Braverman has also promised to act to stop the worst foreign criminals abusing modern slavery laws to stay here.

Under new laws, those convicted of serious offences like murder and terrorism, or those who have served more than a year, will not be allowed to have their deportation claims halted while their modern slavery claim is heard.

The Modern Slavery Act was brought in by Theresa May when she was PM to protect genuine victims of things like sex trafficking.

But it has been widely abused and used by drug dealers and other criminals as a means of escaping justice and staying in Britain.

The National Crime Agency – Britain’s FBI – have said Albanian migrants who move here and work for criminal gangs are coached on using anti trafficking laws to wriggle out of deportation.

Speaking late last year, Simon Brocklesby, an NCA intelligence officer, said: “What we do see is that the Albanian criminal community will manipulate the [modern slavery] national referral mechanism in a fairly extensive fashion.

“We do know anecdotally speaking to police forces around the country that if an Albanian illegal migrant is arrested as a cannabis grower then often the first thing they’ll do is claim to be a victim of trafficking.

“That is very different to most other users of the National Referral Mechanism.

“In many ways it’s blatant manipulation and is something we believe is instilled in them before they actually arrive in the UK.”

But Mrs May has condemned the move to tighten rules around claiming modern slavery.

She warned Downing Street’s plans to ban illegal immigrants from claiming modern slavery “will drive a coach and horses” through legal protections and deny support to those “exploited and enslaved”.

Hitting back, Mr Sunak has warned he has been left with no option but to toughen rules because the system is being exploited.

In the wake of increasing solar storms, a team of international researchers including from India have partnered with the NASA to develop a new computer model that combines artificial intelligence ( AI ) and satellite data to sound alarm for dangerous space weather.

Scientists have predicted a rise in solar storms because the Sun is gearing up to a peak of activity, which happens about every 11 years, and is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.

The impacts of these magnetic storms can range from mild to extreme, but in a world increasingly dependent on technology, their effects are growing ever more disruptive.

The new model uses AI to analyse spacecraft measurements of the solar wind (an unrelenting stream of material from the Sun) and predict where an impending solar storm will strike, anywhere on Earth, with 30 minutes of advance warning.

This could provide just enough time to prepare for these storms and prevent severe impacts on power grids and other critical infrastructure.

“With this AI, it is now possible to make rapid and accurate global predictions and inform decisions in the event of a solar storm, thereby minimising — or even preventing — devastation to modern society,” said Vishal Upendran of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in India.

The team of researchers at the Frontier Development Lab — a public-private partnership that includes NASA, the US Geological Survey, the US Department of Energy, and the IUCAA — applied an AI method “deep learning” and developed a computer model called DAGGER (formally, Deep Learning Geomagnetic Perturbation).

DAGGER, detailed in the journal Space Weather, can quickly and accurately predict geomagnetic disturbances worldwide, 30 minutes before they occur. It can produce predictions in less than a second, and the predictions update every minute.

With models like DAGGER, there could one day be solar storm sirens that sound an alarm in power stations and satellite control centres around the world, the researchers said.

The DAGGER team tested the model against two geomagnetic storms that happened in August 2011 and March 2015. In each case, DAGGER was able to quickly and accurately forecast the storm’s impacts around the world.

DAGGER is the first one to combine the swift analysis of AI with real measurements from space and across Earth to generate frequently updated predictions that are both prompt and precise for sites worldwide.

The computer code in the DAGGER model is open source, and according to Upendran, it could be adopted, with help, by power grid operators, satellite controllers, telecommunications companies, and others to apply the predictions for their specific needs.

Such warnings could give them time to take action to protect their assets and infrastructure from an impending solar storm, such as temporarily taking sensitive systems offline or moving satellites to different orbits to minimise damage.
