Lionel Messi misses Inter Miami final as Zinedine Zidane’s trip to watch is ‘ruined’

September 28, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Zinedine Zidane’s visit to Inter Miami to watch Lionel Messi in action was ruined by the Argentine’s injury.

A packed out crowd at DRV PNK Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, hoped to catch a glimpse of Messi in the US Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo. Even former Real Madrid manager Zidane, an old Los Blancos team-mate of Miami co-owner David Beckham , turned up for the occasion.

But fans – who splashed out on tickets ranging from $400 to $4000 – were left bitterly disappointed when news came through that captain Messi was not even on the bench. And his side failed to add to their Leagues Cup victory by losing 2-1 to Houston.

The World Cup winner, 36, could only watch from the stands due to what manager Tata Martino called fatigue, after a gruelling run of fixtures for both club and country. Griffin Dorsey and Amine Bassi scored in the first-half, before Josef Martinez pulled one back for the Herons late on.

Despite the disappointment of not seeing him work his magic, Zidane did get to meet Messi after travelling all that way. The three-time Champions League-winning manager posed for a picture in the dressing room with the former Barcelona captain, who he faced numerous times with Madrid during their time in Spain.

A-list celebrities such as Will Ferrell, P Diddy, DJ Khaled, Serena Williams, Selena Gomez and Michael Jordan have all flocked to Florida to watch footballing royalty following Messi’s much-needed escape from PSG .

Lionel Messi opens up on retirement and reveals his plans to ‘teach’ after hanging up his boots

September 22, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

FOOTBALL superstar Lionel Messi has opened up on his plan to “teach” once he hangs up his boots for good.

The 36-year-old Argentinian ace has set the MLS alight with his arrival this season – but the legend has revealed what life will be like once his playing time is up.

Messi made a move to the American giants at the start of summer and has since taken the MLS league by a storm.

He has already scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for Inter Miami this season.

But the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has confessed what he wants to do once he decides to end his playing career.

The World Cup champ’s contract with Inter will expire in December 2025 – the Argentine has hopes to become a sport director and go into teaching after retirement.

When the former PSG stars contract ran out for the club in June earlier this year Messi was offered a big money move to Saudi side Al-Hilal and ex-club Barcelona .

But the ten-time La Liga champ opened up on why he made the move to the states.

He continued: “There are people who follow me all my life, who know me. You can tell when I’m happy, on the court.

“The idea was to start relaxing a little after so many years of having a career and enjoy somewhere else. And I’m now doing it.”

Luis Suarez proves he’s still got it by scoring overhead kick at his son’s birthday party

September 28, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Luis Suarez rolled back the years by scoring a stunning overhead-kick at his son’s birthday party.

The former Barcelona and Liverpool star, 36, is undoubtedly one of the most phenomenal strikers of his generation. Suarez last played at an elite level in 2022 for Atletico Madrid , before joining Uruguayan outfit Nacional and more recently Gremio in Brazil.

But the legendary forward showed he still has his incredible flair and eye for goal in a kick-around – by pulling off a spectacular bicycle-kick while playing against his 10-year-old son Benjamin’s friends.

Suarez rented out an indoor football pitch to celebrate the occasion. And Uruguay’s all-time top goal-scorer couldn’t help but get involved in the action.

Camera footage, which has since gone viral, shows Suarez on the receiving end of a cross from a corner. After escaping his many mini markers, he can be seen leaping in the air and walloping in a scissor-kick.

It sparked incredible scenes as the superstar was swarmed by his son’s friends in celebration. And his acrobatic effort would have no doubt caught the eye of several clubs around the world, despite the age of his opposition.

Suarez is set to be without a club in December when his Gremio contract runs out at the end of the season. He signed a two-year deal in January but the club announced in August that the end of his contract would be brought forward by one year.

He has amassed 755 club appearances throughout his career, scoring an incredible 461 and assisting 258 in the process. Among his best seasons were his 31-goal Premier League haul for Liverpool in 2013/14 and a 59-goal campaign for Barcelona in 2015/16.

He famously managed to score an in-game bicycle-kick for Barcelona in February 2015. His strike in the 5-0 win over Levante is just one of many in a catalogue of outstanding strikes for the Uruguayan.

A football-themed optical illusion has left fans scratching their heads in disbelief.

The viral snap that shows 12 goats, a clue to who the world famous star might be, also includes an image of a World Cup winner but only to the sharpest of eyes. While looking at the snap, squinting can help make the athlete appear before the viewer.

A second user joked: “I see a GOD.”

Another said: “I see the real goat.”

If you need help finding it, then there are a few standout details.

There are two eye-shaped holes in the centre of the cloud, which form his eyes.

Two oddly shaped small clouds on either side look like his ears, and below is a large open mouth.

And the rest of the face should become more apparent if you are able to identify these three features.

Can you see Messi?

And if you are able to identify the whole face in less than 10 seconds, then you are the “Greatest Of All Time”.

The bizarre picture follows in the footsteps of goat-related illusion showing the same legendary footballer.

With Messi being dubbed the “Greatest Of All Time” footballer, it is fitting that his face can be seen in all kinds of strange places.
