Naga Munchetty asks ‘are you safe?’ as she airs concern over BBC Breakfast co-star

June 8, 2023 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

Naga Munchetty speaking about her health condition

BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt’s biggest new story on Thursday morning was the new statistics which revealed more than 490 million pints of milk are wasted each year.

To combat this issue, supermarket chains Marks and Spencer have joined forces with Morrisons to ditch use-by dates on their own branded milk.

This will be replaced by a best-before date and buyers will be encouraged to smell and taste the product before deciding to throw it away.

Naga and Charlie were also joined by dairy farmer Ceri Cryer who was keen to share her tips and tricks on how to make milk last longer.

However, during the interview, Naga became increasingly concerned about Ceri as she reported live from her farm surrounded by cows.

Concerned for her safety, Naga asked: “Ceri are you safe around those cows? I can see you being nudged around by them. I’m just checking on your safety.”

The farmer explained: “We just gave them a little bit of cake to come visit us, then one just pooped right next to me so, I’m clean.”

The broadcaster simply replied: “Joyful,” as she chuckled at the chaos of the interview.

Giving her advice, Ceri explained: “I think we need to be valuing the food that we are buying, most food waste happens at the consumer level.

“We need to be valuing the food that we have and not just throwing it away. You have to make sure you are keeping it cold.

“You need to put it in the main part of the fridge at the back and not at the front in the door of the fridge which is the warmest part.

“I would look at the milk and see if I can see spots or a yellow colour that I wasn’t expecting, then I would sniff and then I would give it a little taste.”

Last week Naga took time off from presenting on the BBC show following her recent health diagnosis which left her “screaming” in agony.

After being told she had adenomyosis, she told her Radio 5 Live listeners: “Right now as I sit here talking to you: I am in pain. Constant, nagging pain.

“In my uterus. Around my pelvis. Sometimes it runs down my thighs. And I’ll have some level of pain for the entire show and for the rest of the day until I go to sleep.”

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One.

A cybercrime gang that is thought to be based in Russia has warned major British companies employing more than 100,000 staff to email them before June 14 or stolen data will be published.

According to the BBC , whose employees were victims in the hack, the Clop group made the threat in broken English on the dark web.

Also targeted in the hack were the payrolls of British Airways , Boots, Aer Lingus , Nova Scotia Government and the University of Rochester after the gang broke into a piece of popular business software called MOVEit and used that access to get into the databases of potentially hundreds of other companies.

On Wednesday, the BBC said Clop had posted: “This is announcement to educate companies who use Progress MOVEit product that chance is that we download a lot of your data as part of exceptional exploit.”

The post went on to urge organisations affected by the hack to send an email to the gang to begin a negotiation on the crew’s darknet portal, the broadcaster said.

Earlier this week the UK’s leading payroll provider Zellis said that eight of its customers have been impacted by the “global issue”, which may have exposed personal information, including names, addresses, and banking details.

Boots confirmed it made its staff aware of the data vulnerability which it said was affecting many companies around the world.

A Boots spokeswoman said: “A global data vulnerability, which affected a third-party software used by one of our payroll providers, included some of our team members’ personal details.

“Our provider assured us that immediate steps were taken to disable the server, and as a priority we have made our team members aware.”

British Airways, which has around 34,000 people employed in the UK, also confirmed it was one of the companies to be caught up in the cyber attack.

“We have notified those colleagues whose personal information has been compromised to provide support and advice,” a spokesman said.

British Airways and Zellis have both reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the firm said.

It comes after outsourcing firm and government contractor Capita was recently affected by a cyber attack that saw some customer, supplier and staff data accessed by hackers.

Capita said it faces a bill of up to £20 million to deal with the incident, including for recovery and remediation costs and to invest in reinforcing its cyber security defences.

British Airways suffered a data hack in 2018, when the attacker is believed to have potentially accessed the personal data of approximately 429,612 customers and staff.

Antiques Roadshow guest gobsmacked at value of tribal chair bought for £10

Antiques Roadshow guest gobsmacked at value

The Antiques Roadshow team visited Clissold Park in Stoke Newington on the BBC programme this week.

During the episode, expert John Foster examined a “tribal chair” that was brought in by a guest.

When John asked the guest what it is that she loves about it, she explained: “When I bought it in 1965, I’d recently come in from South Africa and I was nostalgic for something that looked African. I saw it in a local antique shop and bought it.”

The guest also recalled that she’d paid £10 for the item at the time.

John admitted that she had gotten it for “a good price” and a “reasonable amount of money then.” But it wasn’t quite what either of them first thought when they initially looked at the tribal design.

The expert outlined: “So, when I say it has that ‘I love anything tribal and that’ look, I’m kind of teasing you a bit because it’s nowhere near Africa in its origin. It’s from Italy, a designer called Carlo Bugatti.”

John went on to reveal: “So he really took the art world by storm at the 1902 Turin exhibition, where he showed this style of furniture with that sort of very African feel to it or tribal feel to it and no one else is really doing it. Certainly not in that same way.”

The chair was also made from a variety of different woods.

“You’ve got pewter inlay. You’ve got copper. Everything you would expect to see in an African piece of furniture or African art,” John surmised.

When it came to the valuation, the expert estimated that it was worth in the region of £8,000, which was a shock to its owner.

“That’s a lot,” the guest replied.

Elsewhere in the episode, Jon Baddeley admired a collection of 1960s psychedelic rock music posters, while Hilary Kay was thrilled to see a racing helmet worn by Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, as she heard about a guest’s memorable race day experience.

Host Fiona Bruce also paid a visit to the nearby Abney Park cemetery to find out more about some of the surprising pioneers who had been buried there, including Margaret Graham – the first British woman to make a solo balloon flight.

Antiques Roadshow airs Sundays from 8pm on BBC One.

‘I’ll Die After Bingo’: Expectation Forging TV Adaptation Of Pope Lonergan’s Memoir About Caring For The Elderly

June 8, 2023 by deadline.com Leave a Comment

Clarkson’s Farm producer Expectation is adapting comedian Pope Lonergan ’s memoir about a decade spent caring for the elderly for TV.

In I’ll Die After Bingo, the award-winning author provided a no-holds barred account, whether initiating a coup d’état against new regulations with the residents or forging a bond with a 98-year old who once called him a “fat slut.”

Lonergan said the TV version will be “both light and dark; uncompromising, poetic and very funny.” Writer of the TV version has not yet been set.

Expectation Exec Morwenna Gordon added: “I was completely won over by Pope’s writing. Honest, insightful, empathetic and with laugh out loud moments too. I’m so pleased to be working together to adapt this incredible book for TV.”

Lonergan is a comedian and writer who has also taken his memoir on a stand-up tour titled The Care Home Tour.

Expectation is the UK producer behind Amazon Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm and also makes scripted shows such as Danny Boy , Guilt and Alma’s Not Normal , all for the BBC. It is also developing a South Asian mother-daughter comedy from Ted Lasso actor Ambreen Razia.

I’ll Die After Bingo was published by Penguin Random House last year.
