Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation’s attendance in the high-level week of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), bilateral activities in the US, and official visit to Brazil have obtained substantive and comprehensive results, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.

Talking to the press, he said the Vietnamese delegation’s attendance in the UNGA high-level week and bilateral activities in the US was successful and fulfilled all the set tasks and targets, thus practically implementing the foreign policy set by the 13th National Party Congress.

About the trip’s main results, the minister said first of all, PM Chinh’s speeches at UNGA meetings, especially the general debate, conveyed major messages about the country’s viewpoints and policies. Second, Vietnam demonstrated itself as a country treasuring the value of peace and stability, showing strong socio-economic development, and boasting a growing role, stature and prestige in the international arena. Third, the trip created opportunities to further develop and set up new relations with other countries and international organisations, as seen in dozens of meetings between the PM and leaders of countries and international organisations.

During these meetings, partners expressed their respect for the stature, role, and active voice of Vietnam. They agreed to increase mutual visits, foster cooperation in politics – diplomacy, economy – trade, science – technology, labour, tourism, education – training, people-to-people exchanges, and support each other at regional and international forums.

On this occasion, Vietnam established diplomatic relations with Tonga, raising the number of countries it has diplomatic ties with to 193.

Leaders of many countries voiced their support for the importance of peacefully settling disputes in the East Sea on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and maintaining security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the waters.

Vietnam also became one of the first signatories to the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (also called the High Seas Treaty), according to Son.

He also stressed that PM Chinh’s trip is the first to the US by a Vietnamese leader after the two countries had set up the comprehensive strategic partnership, helping carry out the agreements reached during President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Vietnam.

The PM engaged in tens of meetings and participated in many events in San Francisco, Washington DC, and New York with the presence of senior officials of the federal administration and congress, states, businesses, intellectuals, friends, and the Vietnamese community in the US.

The US partners affirmed the importance they attach to Vietnam, and that the development of bilateral relations is strongly supported by both the Republican Party and Democratic Party. They were highly unanimous in the need to quickly implement the newly established partnership, especially in such focal areas as economy – trade – investment, science – technology, innovation, education – training, settlement of war consequences, health care, environment, and people-to-people exchanges.

Minister Son said that the US side showed positive response to Vietnam’s call for the recognition of the Southeast Asian nation’s market economy status, the limitation of trade defence measures, the further opening of the US market to some Vietnamese exports, assistance for Vietnam to build a semiconductor ecosystem and join more deeply in global supply chains, and help for the country to address war consequences.

Besides, US enterprises affirmed that they will continue expanding investment and business activities in Vietnam, he noted, adding many cooperation agreements on infrastructure, digital transformation, green transition, and high technology were signed.

He went on to say that the official visit to Brazil was another practical step to implement Vietnam’s foreign policy, including enhancing relations with traditional friends, of which Brazil is a partner of leading importance.

The trip gained substantive and comprehensive results in terms of Party-to-Party, Government-to-Government, parliamentary, and people-to-people ties, as well as in various areas including politics – diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, defence, security, agriculture, education – training, science – technology, culture, tourism, and sports. It also opened up cooperation opportunities in some new fields such as green economy and digital economy.

During the visit, the two sides issued a joint communiqué, an important document reflecting the stature of bilateral cooperation and identifying orientations for more substantive and effective cooperation towards a new relationship in the time ahead, Son continued.

Brazil highly valued Vietnam’s growing standing and role in the region and the world, as well as the prospects of their cooperation not only in bilateral aspects but also within regional and international frameworks such as between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), the South – South Cooperation, the Forum for East Asia – Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), according to the Foreign Minister./.

Has Brazil icon Ronaldo finally mellowed after rocky marriages, parties with ‘buses of girls’ & ‘3 prostitutes’ scandal?

September 27, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

BRAZIL legend Ronaldo Nazario is planning a huge wedding Ibiza party on Friday with 400 guests – but it should be more sedate than what the football wildman got up to in the past.

The 47-year-old World Cup winner was known as the “president of the parties” and once took three prostitutes back to a hotel room – only for it to become a global scandal.

Ronaldo, though, insists he has settled down since meeting model and businesswoman Celina Locks , 33, seven years ago.

Celina became his second wife when they tied the knot on the Spanish island in an intimate ceremony this week.

It was a very traditional ceremony, with the bride and and groom dressed in white and being showered by petals as they left the church.

They are reportedly going to follow it with a star-studded celebration at his holiday villa in Ibiza .

Before his proposal Ronaldo joked: “I was also the president of the parties. I organised most of the parties.

“My girlfriend now is very happy that I have also retired from the parties – and I miss it so much.”

Ronaldo, who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain , had a reputation for living it up even when he was a professional footballer.

Former teammate Ivan Helguera claimed that “buses of girls” would turn up to enjoy Ronaldo’s hospitality .

He said: “I remember a birthday party at Ronaldo’s house, which he later sold to Sergio Ramos, where buses full of girls began to arrive.

“I was with my wife and we decided to leave, as did Figo.”

Rocky romances

Ronaldo’s sexual appetite has proven to be problematic.

His first marriage to women’s footballer Milene Domingues, 44, lasted four years and produced one son, Ronald, 23.

Two years after they split, he walked down the aisle with model Daniella Cicarelli in February 2005, in a glamorous wedding where Fat Boy Slim DJed at the reception.

But it was reportedly not legally binding because neither of the couple’s divorces had been officially signed off.

Three months later the relationship was over, with Daniella alleging that her fiance had been unfaithful.

A paternity test later revealed that a Brazilian waitress called Michele Umezu had given birth to Ronaldo’s son Alexander in April 2005.

He had met Michelle in Tokyo three years earlier.

The next potential Mrs Ronaldo was engineering student Maria Beatriz Antony.

But the footballer dramatically upended their engagement by taking three prostitutes back to his hotel room in Rio de Janeiro in the spring of 2008.

Prostitute scandal

Ronaldo was shocked to discover that they were in fact men and alleged that they tried to get the millionaire player to hand over £15,000.

The police superintendent in charge of the case said: “Ronaldo admits the facts. He said he just wanted to amuse himself, that’s not a crime.

“To pay to have sexual relations isn’t illegal. There’s a strong chance that Ronaldo has been the victim of extortion.”

Maria, who was pregnant at the time of the scandal, left her husband-to-be before changing her mind and going back to him.

They had two daughters – Maria Sofia, 14, and Maria Alice, 13 – during their seven-year relationship.

Ronaldo has a reputation for his generous spirit, offering to pay for huge meals in restaurants and looking after friends.

But hiding behind that huge smile was an anxious star.

Ronaldo, who suffered from several injuries during his career before retiring in 2011, revealed last year: “Today I am in therapy. I have been in therapy for two and a half years and I understand myself much better than before.”

Like David Beckham , the wealthy ex-player sees value in owning football clubs.

He became the biggest share owner of Spanish side Real Valladolid in September 2018 and three years later took control of his boyhood club Cruzeiro in Brazil.

But neither team is doing well and fans have protested.

Settled down

The rotund star, who battled with weight problems as a player, appears to be ready for a more settled life with Celina.

She told Vogue magazine about how confident he was when they met seven years ago.

Celina recalled: “He said I would fall in love in two months. I burst out laughing, but it happened.”

He popped the question during a romantic trip to the Caribbean, announcing their engagement this January.

Celina said: “It was very special for him to look at me not only as the love of his life, but to exalt me as a woman.”

Two months later fans thought that Celina was pregnant when she posted a photograph of herself with her hand on the stomach next to the words: “A new phase of my life is beginning and with it a great responsibility.”

It turned out, though, that she wasn’t due to become a mother.

Whatever happens, it is clear that the couple are going to celebrate their nuptials in style.

The Amazon rainforest in Brazil is facing a severe drought that may affect around 500,000 people by the end of the year, authorities said Tuesday.

Many are already struggling to access essential supplies such as food and water, because the principal means of transportation in the region is waterways, and river levels are historically low. Droughts also impact fishing, a means of subsistence for many riverside communities.

Amazonas state declared an environmental emergency two weeks ago in response to the prolonged drought and launched a response plan valued at $20 million. Authorities will also distribute food and water supplies as well as personal hygiene kits, the state’s civil defense agency said in a statement.

Gov. Wilson Lima was in Brazil’s capital, Brasilia , on Tuesday to meet with representatives of the federal government. Lima spoke with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss the drought.f

The different levels of government will “coordinate measures in support of the people living in the affected municipalities,” Lima said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

DEFORESTATION IN BRAZIL INCREASED 30% IN 12 MONTHS, AGENCY SAYS

Fifteen municipalities were in a state of emergency on Tuesday, while 40 others were on a state of alert, the civil defense authority said.

According to the port of Manaus, which monitors water levels, the river stood at 55 feet on Tuesday, around 20 feet below the same day last year. The lowest level of water was recorded on Oct. 24, 2010, when the river dropped to about 45 feet.

The drought is forecast to last longer and be more intense because of El Niño climate phenomenon, which inhibits the formation of rain clouds, the civil defense authority said.

Climate change exacerbates droughts by making them more frequent, longer and more severe. Warmer temperatures enhance evaporation, which reduces surface water and dries out soils and vegetation.

Vietnam, Brazil sign MoU on defense cooperation

September 28, 2023 by en.qdnd.vn Leave a Comment

The signing ceremony was in the framework of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Brazil.

This was the first time the two defense ministries signed an agreement on defense cooperation, laying an important foundation for the two countries to carry out contents in such defense cooperation fields as delegation exchange, training, U.N. peacekeeping, military medicine, military trade, defense industry, among others.

The same day, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien met with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguilar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Brazil, during which the two sides spoke highly of the importance of the MoU, saying that it helps foster the two countries’ comprehensive partnership.

They said that that was the first high-level contact of the leadership of the two defense ministries and militaries since 2003 when the Vietnamese Minister of National Defense paid an official visit to Brazil.

At the meeting, Gen. Chien talked about Vietnam’s foreign and defense policy, stressing the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, multilateralization, diversification, and “Four Nos” defense policy. He stressed that Vietnam is persistent with addressing disagreements in the East Sea (South China Sea) by peaceful means on the basis of international laws, including UNCLOS 1982.

Both sides agreed to assign authorized agencies of the two defense ministries to build a plan to realize the MoU with priority given to exchange of all-level delegations, training, U.N. peacekeeping, and defense industry. They also reached consensus on considering the establishment of the dialogue-consultation mechanism and the signing of an MoU on peacekeeping cooperation.

Gen. Chien invited the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and military of Brazil and the country’s defense enterprises to attend the Vietnam International Defense Expo next year.
