Domestic airlines offer tickets for Tet holiday

Domestic airlines have started offering tickets for Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday with many promotions.

Budget airline Vietjet on Tuesday began to sell tickets for flights during the 2023 Lunar New Year holidays at super saving prices.

Passengers travelling from the South to the North and the Central region before the Lunar New Year and who are flying from the North and the Central to the South after the Lunar New Year holidays can buy Vietjet tickets from August 16 to enjoy the promotional prices from only VND619,000 (US$26), excluding tax and fees, with the most convenient flight schedules.

Super saving tickets for Lunar New Year are available for sale at the website vietjetair.com, Vietjet Air mobile app, Vietjet official agents and booking offices.

In particular, passengers can enjoy free payment fees when booking and paying via Vietjet SkyClub.

The “Fly now – Pay later” programme with easy online check-in in just three minutes will offer customers flexible financial solutions when choosing to fly with Vietjet.

Vietjet looks to create a warm Tet season on all flights with a modern fleet of new aircraft, soft leather seats, friendly and dedicated cabin crews, fresh and hot meals with many convenient products and services, and special cultural and artistic performances.

Its flight network covers all destinations in Viet Nam and other countries, including India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia (Bali), and Malaysia.

The new-age carrier Vietjet has not only revolutionised the aviation industry in Viet Nam but has also been a pioneering airline across the region and world.

With a focus on cost management ability, effective operations and performance, Vietjet offer flying opportunities with cost-saving, flexible fares, and diversified services to meet customer demand.

Along with domestic flights, the carrier will increase flights connecting Viet Nam and Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, the Republic of Korea, and those between Viet Nam and Australia.

It plans to double its international flight number amid loosening migration regulations in many countries and territories.

On occasion, Vietnam Airlines offers special ticket fares from VND1.86 million per leg, including taxes and fees, for business class; and VND 785,000 per leg, including taxes and fees, for economy class.

The promotion is applicable for flights from January 14 to February 5 next year. — VNS

Vistara emerges second largest domestic airline by market share in July

According to data from the aviation regulator, Vistara, which had a 7.5% market in January and around 9% in the subsequent months, climbed to 10.4% in July.

Go First carried 8.2% of the domestic passengers last month, while SpiceJet flew 8%.

SpiceJet and Go First have been forced to cut capacity, which helped Vistara overtake them in market share. After several technical snags in SpiceJet’s flights, the regulator ordered it to cut 50% of its approved capacity for the summer. GoAir grounded more than a fifth of its fleet, or over a dozen planes, due to engine supply problems.

The market share of the only other local full-service carrier, Air India , climbed to 8.4% from 7.5% in June, although it decreased from 10.2% in January.

All low-cost carriers except IndiGo lost market share.

The combined market share for the three Tata Group airlines – Air India, Vistara and AirAsia India – for July was 23.4%. IndiGo’s share was 2.5 times higher at 58.8%.

“Despite the challenges of the third wave of the pandemic, we were able to maintain a domestic market share of 9% throughout the last six months, flying over a million passengers (domestic + international) every month since March 2022,” Vistara chief executive Vinod Kannan said in an email to employees Thursday.

Since January, when Vistara sharply cut flights due to a rise in Covid cases, its number of domestic flights increased by 56%, till July, said a person in the know. Its number of aircraft deployed on domestic routes increased to 44 from 37, he said, adding the airline would now add one aircraft every month to its fleet of 53 small and large planes.

Air India too has been adding capacity recently.

“In the last two months, our narrow-bodied fleet in operation has increased to 54 from 45 planes,” said a person in the know of Air India’s operations. It has a narrow-bodied fleet of more than 70 planes. The remaining are grounded.

“Air India is leaving no stone unturned to bring back both its narrow-body and widebody aircraft back into service,” an airline spokesperson said separately. “For instance, till recently, we had 28 widebody aircraft that were operating but that number has now risen to 33. The entire process to make grounded aircraft serviceable has been expedited and soon most aircraft will be ready to operate.”

India’s airlines carried 9.7 million passengers on domestic routes in July, almost double from a year earlier but lower than the 10.5 million passengers ferried in June 2022.

India airlines see a 7.6% sequential drop in domestic passengers in July, DGCA says

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA ) stated on Thursday that over 97 lakh domestic passengers travelled by air in July this year.

However, this number is 7.6 percent lower than the number recorded last month. The number stood at 1.05 crore in June. Overall, 6.69 crore people travelled on domestic flights in the January-July period of 2022, reported PTI citing the DGCA’s monthly statement.

The rainy season is usually a lean period for the aviation sector in India .

IndiGo — India’s largest carrier — carried 57.11 lakh passengers in July, a 58.8 per cent share of the domestic market, it mentioned.

Vistara flew 10.13 lakh passengers and Air India flew 8.14 lakh passengers in July this year, according to the data shared by the DGCA.

Go First,

, AirAsia India and Alliance Air carried 7.95 lakh, 7.76 lakh, 4.42 lakh, 1.12 lakh passengers, respectively, in July, the data showed.

The occupancy rate or load factor for SpiceJet was 84.7 per cent in July, the DGCA noted.

The occupancy rate of Vistara, IndiGo, Go First, AirAsia India and Air India was 84.3 per cent, 77.7 per cent, 76.5 per cent, 75.2 per cent and 71.1 per cent, respectively, in July, it added.

During the last two years, the aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DGCA data mentioned that in July this year, AirAsia India had the best on-time performance of 95.5 per cent at four metro airports — Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai .

Vistara and Go First were at the second and third positions at these four airports in July with 89 per cent and 84.1 per cent on-time performance respectively, the DGCA said.

Labor Day Flights Will Cost 23% More Than Last Year | The Daily Wire

Americans traveling for Labor Day will have to contend with prices 23% higher than last year, according to a Tuesday report from Hopper.

The travel booking company found that domestic airfare over the holiday weekend will cost an average of $278 per round trip, marking a 20% increase over rates seen in 2019 and a 23% increase over those in 2021. Roughly 12.6 million passengers are expected to fly, with those leaving on Thursday, September 1, or Friday, September 2, witnessing the highest prices.

“Prices remain at historically high levels as demand for travel has been strong throughout the summer after pent up demand from the prior two years due to the pandemic,” Hopper economist Hayley Berg wrote.

At a rate of $189 per night, hotel stays are 6% more expensive since the same weekend last year, with New York City, Las Vegas, and Orlando experiencing the highest search volumes from Labor Day travelers.

While the majority of passengers will fly domestically, about 39% will travel to other countries, with international round-trip airfare averaging $850 — a 34% increase since last year and a 30% rise since 2019. Among the most popular overseas destinations include San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cancun, Mexico; and Mexico City, Mexico.

Transportation expenses have risen considerably over the past year, with airline fares soaring 27.7% between July 2021 and July 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics . The increase has corresponded with a 32.9% rise in energy prices, which includes a 44% rise in gasoline costs. According to Hopper, jet fuel prices remain “historically high,” yet have declined in recent weeks to $2.94 per gallon.

The air travel industry has been impacted by persistent flight cancellations as airlines seek to grapple with a pilot shortage. More than 3,000 cancellations met passengers over a period of two days in May as a bout of extreme weather hit the eastern United States, while more than 1,800 cancellations occurred during the Fourth of July weekend.

The United States will lack 12,000 pilots by 2023, even as 14,000 pilots will be forced to leave the workforce over the next five years because of a federal law mandating that airline pilots retire by 65 years old, according to a study by consulting group Oliver Wyman .

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) therefore proposed the Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act — a bill that would raise the commercial pilot retirement age from 65 to 67. “Following the heavy-handed stupidity of government lockdowns, travel demand has naturally skyrocketed. However, Americans are now experiencing flight delays and cancellations on an unacceptable scale due to a worsening pilot shortage,” Roy argued. “A key factor is a government-mandated retirement age that forces out thousands of our most qualified pilots every year.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, however, has rejected such a proposal. “These retirement ages are there for a reason, and the reason is safety. I’m not going to be on board with anything that could compromise safety,” he told Fox News host Mike Emanuel last month. “Now, what’s clearly the case is we need to cultivate, train, and support a new generation of qualified pilots.”

Many other industries are likewise experiencing worker shortages as the labor force participation rate has continued to lag over the past two years. The metric dropped from 66% in 2008 to 63% in 2020, falling another 3% in the spring of 2020 alone as COVID led to government lockdowns, before rising again to 62% as of last month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics .

ALBANY, N.Y. — A prominent New York-based horse trainer whose Early Voting won this year’s Preakness Stakes is facing a domestic violence charge for allegedly pushing a woman down a flight of stairs and trying to choke her, authorities said.

Chad Brown, 43, was arraigned in Saratoga Springs on a charge of obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor.

Police received a complaint at around 11 p.m. from a caller who said “they were in an altercation with Mr. Brown,” Saratoga Springs Police Sergeant Paul Veitch said. Brown was arrested and spent the night in a police holding area pending arraignment.

Assistant District Attorney Kayla Potter told the judge that Brown pushed the woman down the stairs, pinned her to the floor and tried to choke her before throwing her out of the house.

Brown pleaded not guilty and was released on $2,500 bond, Veitch said. A message seeking comment was left with Brown’s attorney.

Brown is well-known in the horse racing community. He owns a horse-racing company called Chad C. Brown Inc., and his horses won the Preakness in 2017 and 2022. He is also a four-time Eclipse Award winner as the nation’s best trainer.

Brown has had troubles with the law in recent years. In 2019, Brown was ordered to pay more than $1.6 million after the U.S. Department of Labor found he failed to pay his company staff overtime wages.
