A man in Ontario used three hidden AirTags to track down his stolen car — and eight others.

As reported by CP24 in Toronto, a man with the last name of Lorne realized that his Range Rover had been stolen in broad daylight outside of his house. According to his account, the car theives were able to bypass the built-in tracking system from the car manufacturer to avoid being caught.

“The thieves were able to disable the tracker in my car, put there by the manufacturer,” Lorne said.

Meanwhile, his wallet, along with his kids phones, which were in the car, were thrown out of the vehicle before it was stolen, which Lorne said he believes was a preventive measure to avoid him from tracking the location of his car.

Incredibly, someone stole his new Range Rover after he replaced the old one a mere thirty days after the original theft. Thankfully, Lorne had hidden three AirTags throughout the car and was able to work with the police to locate it this time.

Right away, he logged into his Find My app and located all three of his AirTags near Manville and Comsock roads in Scarborough, listed as a metal recycling plant.

After dropping his kids at school, he headed to that location and called the police. With no success reaching an officer, he drove to the 41 Division police station. Toronto police spokesperson David Hopkinson confirmed to CTV News Toronto that a report of this nature was received by police on Thursday.

“I pressed my panic button and you heard it going off,” Lorne said. “The next day I was told they recovered nine cars.” Due to an ongoing investigation, police could not comment further on the incident.

It’s good to see at least some people are using AirTags for their intended purpose.

Mayor Downed ‘Several Glasses Of Wine,’ Crashed Car After Meeting With Families Of Drunk Driving Victims | The Daily Wire

June 28, 2022 by www.dailywire.com Leave a Comment

An Australian mayor downed “several glasses of wine” and crashed her car into a tree just hours after meeting with the families of drunk drivers and vowing to fight the deadly scourge, according to reports .

Karen Williams, mayor of the Queensland town of Redlands, was blasted by the families she’d met with after the embarrassing episode last week revealed her hypocrisy. One victim’s loved one said the mayor called her in tears to apologize after the crash.

“[I told her], ‘we trusted you and you let us down … You’re the one supposed to be helping us to raise awareness and you’ve let us all down,’” Judy Lindsay, whose daughter Hayley was killed by a drunk driver in 2009, told 7news.com.au. “She is lucky she didn’t kill someone.”

Lindsay called for Williams to immediately resign.

Williams, 55, had earlier met with Lindsay and the families of pregnant couple Kate Leadbetter and Matthew Field, who were killed in January 2021 along with their unborn baby by a drunk teen in a stolen car. She called the 10-year sentence meted out to the teen “manifestly inadequate.”

“We talked about road safety awareness, we talked about drink driving, we talked about drug driving, we talked about how we were going to change the youth justice act and how we were going to get this story out,” Lindsay told 7NEWS.

Williams pledged to make stopping drunk driving her political “legacy,” Lindsay said.

Williams, who admitted having “several glasses of wine” before the crash, has so far refused to resign, claiming it would be a “rash decision.” She has not been charged with the accident. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

“There are no excuses for my actions,” Williams said in a televised news conference. “I made a serious error of judgment and I will continue to service this community and I am deeply regretful for those actions. Fortunately there were no injuries, and no one else was involved.”

Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said Williams must face the consequences for her actions.

“I have zero tolerance for drunk driving, and it doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t matter what you do, it doesn’t matter where you live: you should never put yourself in that position,” he told reporters on Monday.

“And there has to be consequences for actions.”

Most Australian jurisdictions have blood-alcohol limits of .05% for drivers, and steep fines and criminal penalties for those convicted of the offense.

Honda CRV with “priceless and irreplaceable” family-made Osage clothing, heirlooms stolen in Denver

June 28, 2022 by www.denverpost.com Leave a Comment

A Honda stolen from a driveway in southeast Park Hill on Monday night contained two suitcases of traditional handmade Osage clothing and family heirlooms.

The family victimized by the theft is devastated and is asking for the public’s help in returning the otherwise irreplaceable items.

“These clothes have been worn by multiple members of our family over multiple generations,” said Ben Jacobs, whose family owns Tocabe: An American Indian Eatery, in Denver.

The vehicle stolen was a navy blue Honda CRV, Colorado license 988-WET, Jacobs said in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

“While the car is replaceable and meaningless, there were many family heirlooms inside the vehicle that are priceless and irreplaceable,” Jacobs said in the post.

Jacobs’s mother had just returned from Oklahoma, driving 12 hours after attending Osage I’nlonshka ceremonial dances. The trunk contained several suitcases of the traditional, family-made Osage clothes.

“Many of these heirlooms have been passed down through generations of our family, including an eagle wing fan that belonged to our great uncle Harold Redcorn and a fan gifted to our mother by her own grandfather,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs’s grandmother, who passed away in 1986, was a master ribbon worker who made by hand the clothing that was stolen. Some of the stolen items date back a century. Family pieces stolen have been worn by multiple family members over three generations.

Items include:

  • A pair of women’s moccasins recently made and beaded by an 80-year-old Osage elder
  • Two fingerwoven women’s belts and a girl’s broadcloth ribbon work skirt
  • A man’s suit, two sets of leather leggings and broadcloth ribbon work breechcloth
  • A boy’s broadcloth suit, leggings and breechcloth
  • Men’s and boy’s moccasins, an eagle wing fan, beaded bandoliers

The clothing was in two vintage brown and blue hard-sided suitcases. The family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the return of the suitcases and heirlooms.

Denver police are investigating the incident, said Sean Towle, a police spokesman.

Anyone with information on the case, or who spots the Honda or the distinctive clothing, is asked to call Denver Crime Stoppers 720-913-7867.

‘Sex-trafficking’ victim, 13, saved after cops spotted ‘large amount of lingerie’ in car during traffic stop

June 28, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

A 13-YEAR-old “sex-trafficking” victim was saved after cops spotted a chilling clue in a car during a traffic stop last week.

The Canton Police Department said an officer conducted a traffic stop at around 10.24am on June 22, which led to a human trafficking arrest on North Street near Railroad Street in Canton, Georgia.

A press release , released two days after the incident, explains a juvenile female was pulled over as she was seen holding her phone while driving and arrested for “human trafficking, kidnapping, and multiple other charges.”

The young female driver was unable to provide a driver’s license or ID to the officer, prompting him to run the vehicle’s registration.

It was then that he learned the vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Caravan, was reported stolen out of North Carolina, police said.

“A search of the van was conducted, which led to locating 13 THC vape cartridges, three vape pens, a THC Nerds Rope, and a large amount of lingerie,” the press release states.

“Suspicious of the relationship and items located in the vehicle, detectives were requested to the scene.”

When detectives arrived to investigate, they discovered the female passenger was 13 years old and a victim of human trafficking and kidnapping, police said.

They also found out that the female driver was a 16-year-old juvenile.

Police determined the victim was being taken to another state and arrested the driver for a slew of charges.

The charges were listed as: trafficking of persons for labor or sexual servitude, kidnapping, giving false names, address, or date of birth, theft by receiving stolen property stolen in other states, unlawful use of a wireless device, and VGCSA possession of a controlled substance.

Canton Police Community Outreach Officer and PIO Pacer Cordry told Fox5Atlanta : “The intuition of the officer, putting everything together based on his experience, knew something wasn’t right.”

He praised the officer for his actions, adding: “To think about all the bad things that could happen to a 13-year-old being trafficked, he could have saved a life.”

Investigators still need to figure out how the two young teens knew each other and if anyone else was involved, according to the news outlet.

The 13-year-old returned home with her parents, who drove from North Carolina to pick her up after the traffic stop.

The 16-year-old is now in custody at a regional youth detention center.

The unidentified 16-year-old is reportedly set to be questioned by investigators this week.

Chief Stephen Merrifield also praised the “exceptional work” of the officers and detectives who worked on this case.

WRENTHAM, MA — A van reported stolen Tuesday afternoon with two dogs inside has been found, according to a tweet by Police Chief Bill McGrath.

The Tail Blazers University van was located in Pawtucket, RI, at 9:15 p.m. after having been seen “driving erratically” on Interstate 495 south, Wrentham police said on Facebook. Both dogs were safe when the van was found.

One of the dogs inside the van was a 6-month-old sheepadoodle puppy named “Tessie.” Her owner, Lisa Fernando, told NewsCenter 5 that she didn’t think the person was stealing the dogs.

Police are still looking into why the van was stolen.
