Shipping line concerns over IT problems at Felixstowe Port

Shipping lines are looking at moving some business from the UK’s biggest container port, which has been hit by delays caused by IT problems.

Tilbury port said it had been contacted by companies looking for an alternative to Felixstowe.

The Port of Felixstowe said talk of diverting ships was not unusual.

The Felixstowe Port Users’ Association told the BBC that the situation was improving with 60% of containers being loaded within an hour.

On Wednesday, lorry drivers complained of tailbacks of up to 16 hours after the IT system was introduced on Sunday.

One shipping line, that did not wish to be named, told the BBC cranes that normally handled 24 containers an hour, were at present only handling about eight an hour.

A spokesman from London Container Terminal in Tilbury said: “We have been approached by a number of shipping lines seeking alternative options to Felixstowe.”

Jason Flower, chairman of Felixstowe Port Users’ Association said there were more vehicles getting off the port now.

But he said there was “still an issue with some containers… 20% of them are taking more than three hours and some are taking five hours”.

He added: “We are pressing the port to put more people on the service desk but it is better.”

‘Stable and reliable’

A spokesman for Felixstowe port operator Hutchison Ports said one or two ships may have been diverted, but diversions are not that unusual.

He said earlier: “The new system is operating across our container and rail terminals after a successful migration of data on Sunday.”

The IT system is already in use at 25 Hutchison Ports around the world, the spokesman added.

“It will provide a stable, reliable and consistent level of performance for our customers for many years to come,” he said.

He thanked people using the port for their “co-operation and understanding during this time”.

Gandhari, the mother of the Kouravas, had once cursed Lord Krishna that just as all her sons had died, Krishna too will die soon after completing 36 years of his life. She believed that Krishna could have saved all the warriors, by not letting the war begin, but Krishna did not do so.

Lord Krishna accepted the curse just as he would accept her blessings. Such a state of emotional equilibrium was present in Sri Krishna. And this is what he himself emphasized upon, suggesting every man to be in the state of equilibrium emotionally.

Today, through this article, we are going to tell you, how Lord Krishna died and whether the curse came true or not.

Mahabharata gives the story of not only the death of the hundred Kouravas, but also of other influential characters, such as Dronacharya, Arjuna, Bhishma Pitamah, Abhimanyu etc.

These were some of the the most intelligent and the bravest characters of all times. But the most influential among these was Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna, who kept guiding Arjuna, when he was fighting the Kouravas, did all that he could to bring Adharma, or unrighteousness, to an end. Probably, this was why Gandhari, the mother of the Kouravas, believed that Krishna was responsible for the death of her sons.

Mahabharata tells us the story of the death of Lord Krishna as well, besides narrating the story of the death of the other warriors. The ‘Mousal Parva’, a collection of eight parts tells how Lord Krishna died.

The Son Of Lord Krishna

Samba was the son of Lord Krishna. As notorious as Lord Krishna, once he decided to pretend to be a woman. In the disguise of a pregnant woman, he went to Rishi Durvasa, Vashishtha, Vishvamitra and Narad.

He asked all the sages to guess whom he carried in his womb, a boy or a girl. However, one of the sages understood the mischief and cursed him that a copper arrow would be born from his body, which would be used for the destruction of the whole Yadava clan.

When Samba told this whole story to Ugrasen, he gave him a remedy. He told Samba to crash the copper arrow into powder, and to pour it into running water. This would nullify the curse.

Negativity In The Kingdom

However, it is said that negativity spread in the whole Yadava clan. People became addicted to drugs and there was ‘evilness’ seen all around. People became Tamsik (one leading to darkness).

Once under the intoxication of drugs, many important characters of the Mahabharata started arguing, which took the form of a fight and later a battle. It is believed that many except Lord Krishna, Vabhru and Daruka, got killed in the fight.

Vabhru and Balram also died after some time. After this, Lord Krishna sent Daruka to Arjuna for help.

But to everybody’s surprise, the moment he reached there, he saw that Lord Krishna too had passed away. It is said that Lord Krishna was killed by the same arrow.

What they did not understand was how could Krishna be killed, inspite of Samba crushing the arrow to powder.

It is believed that a fish ate the powdered arrow particles, which again turned back into a piece of copper in its body. After which, a hunter named Jeeru caught the fish and turned the piece of copper into an arrow again, which he found inside the body of the fish.

When Jeeru heard some voices from afar, he misunderstood the voice be that of a deer’s, and attacked it with the same arrow. This is how the curse given to Samba by the sage, and the one given by Gandhari to Lord Krishna, became true.

Computer problems have caused major delays at Britain’s biggest container port.

Lorry drivers at the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk have complained on social media about 16-hour tailbacks after a new IT system was introduced on Sunday.

The port said it was aware of problems in its container yard, but it still handled 3,800 lorries on the first day.

It expects normal operations to be resumed “within 24 to 36 hours”.

Dave Perfect, of D Perfect and Sons transport firm in West Thurrock, said delays have been hitting local logistics firms.

‘Money lost’

“I dread to think how much money has been lost to our industry this week,” he said.

A spokesman for Felixstowe port operator Hutchison Ports said the delays were caused by its “new terminal operating system”.

He said: “The new system is operating across our container and rail terminals after a successful migration of data on Sunday.”

The IT system is already in use at 25 Hutchison Ports around the world, the spokesman added.

“It will provide a stable, reliable and consistent level of performance for our customers for many years to come,” he said.

He thanked people using the port for their “cooperation and understanding during this time”.

DEMI LOVATO has told how she was minutes from death following her accidental overdose of heroin.

She said: “When they found me, I was turning blue and the doctor said I had five to ten more minutes left.

“If no one had come in, I wouldn’t be here today.”

The singer and former Disney child star , who has sold millions of records and had two Grammy nominations, was found at her home in Los Angeles.

Coming to terms with the incident in June 2018 has not been easy for her or her loved ones.

She explained: “ Recovery is a lot. And with time, comes trust.

“It was a learning experience of, ‘OK, people are going to have to learn to trust you again’.

“The only way they can do that is by you proving yourself. Not just talking but taking actions.

“My family is incredible.

“Do they worry to this day? Absolutely.

“That’s never going to go away, what I put them through. As a consequence they end- ed up suffering.”

Since the overdose Demi has had three strokes , resulting in brain damage, and a heart attack.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 as she releases her eighth album Holy Fvck, Demi she now suffers with “survivor’s guilt” after seeing the likes of Ariana Grande ‘s ex Mac Miller pass away due to drugs.

Demi said: “I’ve lost friends that were around my age, and those hurt so deeply.

“I had a lot of survivor’s guilt after my overdose because right after that Mac Miller died and it just put everything into perspective for me of what could have been.”

Demi signed a record deal at 15.

She added: “I didn’t know who I was and I had a team trying to force me to be this hyper-feminine pop star. I was so unhappy.”

Fame is a minefield of pitfalls. I’m just pleased Demi is here today.

The group told me: “We were struggling with relationships during the pandemic.

“It was a kind of therapy session for the three of us to write down how we had all been feeling.”

Away from the group, singer Black Richardson is set to appear as The Beatles legend Paul McCartney in upcoming film Midas Man, which focuses on the Fab Four’s manager Brian Epstein.

The heart-throb has been keeping himself sane and unwinding during his massive Love On Tour trek by secretly checking out local courses.

A source said: “Harry loves to unwind by playing golf.

“When you’ve got over 60,000 fans screaming your name with every movement it can be overwhelming.

“A round of golf is the complete opposite of a stadium show – it’s peaceful and by its nature comes with privacy, so it’s perfect.

“Harry has made sure to check out as many golf courses as possible as he tours the world.

“He’s even added golfing clothes to his luggage.”

Harry has been on the road since last September and won’t wrap up the tour until March 2023.

After playing a run of sell-out shows here in June he city-hopped throughout Europe before taking a couple of weeks off.

Then on Monday he kicked off a North American leg, which includes a 15-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York.

I’m more into rounds at the local than rounds of golf but maybe I should take Harry’s lead before the summer ends.

NINETIES pop legends Steps are showing no signs of slowing down.

Lisa told me: “There are so many great new artists and producers out there now.

“People like David Guetta and Clean Bandit and those dance-based artists, they would be really interesting to do a collaboration with – and I do love when Steps do a pop dance.”

“We all sat down and talked candidly about what we wanted. We didn’t want to tarnish what we had achieved.”

The Baby singer wore the oversized corduroy trousers and a hooded top with a matching cap as he went out for a meal with his supermodel wife Hailey at Catch Steak in Los Angeles.

Justin appeared keen to remain incognito, which isn’t surprising given his outfit.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Justin fan. But someone needs to have a serious word with his stylist.

Hailey looked effortlessly glamorous, as always, in a long-sleeved, little black dress with knee-high boots.

She also had shades on . . .

Felixstowe Port boosts capacity ready for Brexit

A UK port and Danish ferry operator DFDS have agreed to increase roll-on, roll-off, capacity by more than 40% to help freight shipping after Brexit.

Felixstowe Port’s chief executive, Clemence Cheng, said the deal with DFDS comes as “shippers seek to minimise risks to their supply chains resulting from Brexit.”

One freight transporter said the expansion could help ease bottlenecks.

New bridges, tractor units and trailer parking facilities will also be built.

The investment comes as suppliers on both sides of the Channel look for alternatives to Dover once the UK leaves the European Union in March.

“Demand on DFDS’ service to Rotterdam has been growing steadily for a number of years and we are delighted to have agreed a new contract with them to secure the service at Felixstowe for another 15 years,” added Mr Cheng.

“Dover is a port where the cargo tends to be accompanied by the driver so if there are delays, you get bottlenecks,” Tim Wray of Multimodal Logistics said.

“Felixstowe is primarily an unaccompanied port where cargo arrives without a lorry, is taken from the boat to the port and on to a holding area. A vehicle then applies for the cargo and takes it away.”

Hutchison Ports added it was seeing “increasing interest in both roll-on, roll-off and short sea container connections” at all three of its UK ports, which include Harwich and London Thamesport.

Niels Smedegaard, president of DFDS, said the contract was “striving to provide necessary capacity to continue… even in a possible post-Brexit world.”
