Xavier López Rodríguez, the Mexican children’s entertainer known professionally as his character Chabelo, has died at the age of 88 .

The announcement was made by the late actor and comedian’s family, who wrote in a statement published on social media, that he had died ‘suddenly’.

In the message translated from Spanish, they wrote: ‘This is a very sad morning, Xavier Lopez Chabelo, father, brother and husband has left us suddenly, cause of abdominal complications.’

They continued: ‘With a torn soul and knowing that many and many people have loved him for many years and that they will feel his departure, we ask you to pray for his rest and give us the opportunity to pass in peace the grief that overwhelms our whole family. Lopez Miranda Family.’

López was best-known for his TV show, En Familia con Chabelo, which ran for almost half a century from 1967 to 2015.

The TV presenter and singer also produced shows including La Cuchufleta and La Güereja Quiere Más, and he was featured in more than 30 films in his career.

Tributes have poured in for the late performer, with one coming from the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In his translated statement, the politician wrote: ‘Hugs to family and friends for the death of Xavier López “Chabelo”. How can I forget that my eldest son woke up early to see him over 40 years ago.’

One person wrote: ‘So sad to hear about the dead of Chabelo. Like millions of kids in Mexico, I watched Chabelo’s game show religiously every Sunday morning my entire childhood. His show was on for 48 years, imagine how many families across generations watched him. RIP.’

‘México lost another legend. What a legend, ty for the happy childhood,’ someone else said.

López earned a couple of Guinness World Records in his lifetime, first for his TV show running for 44 years with an uninterrupted broadcast, and then for portraying his character Chabelo for more than 57 years.

The star was born in Chicago, Illinois before his family moved back to Mexico to live in the city of León.

He is survived by his children and his wife, Teresita Miranda.

UK’s ‘worst seaside town’ that’s ‘drab’ and has ‘no past, no entertainment, no fun’

March 27, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

The life of those living inside the UK’s worst seaside town has been revealed.

For most people not living in this country, seaside towns are often thought of as a thing of beauty where you can spend hours sitting on a deckchair while eating ice cream until the sun sets.

But for many, the reality is very different.

READ MORE: ‘Best place to live in UK’ is tiny town of less than 5k people – is your town on list?

Denbighshire in Rhyl, Wales, has been labelled as the worst seaside in the UK by the Telegraph’s new Seaside Gentrification Index.

In total, 20 different seaside resorts were looked at – including runners-up South Shields, Blackpool, Southport and Scarborough – to find out how they had adapted to the ever-changing world of the last three decades.

And in Rhyl’s case . . . it hasn’t, as The Daily Mirror’s Saffron Otter found out.

She took a trip to the beleaguered town and found that it was full of “bargain shops, charity shops, the odd takeaway and beauty salon”.

And one local, who refused to be named, really laid into the town.

He said: “It used to be nice and open, you could see through to the seafront, now there are all of these buildings.

“When you’ve got adverts in the prisons in Manchester saying ‘go live in Rhyl by the sea’… You won’t get the guest houses back on the front, you can’t turn the clock back. It’s just one of those things.”

Another called it “drab”, while a Telegraph review of it said that it had “no past, no arts or entertainment, no fun”.

The town has been a whopping £85million’s worth of investment by the Government to try and restore it to its former glory.

Boasting a population of around 25,000, the town does have some things going for it, however, such as the oldest field hockey club in Wales formed in 1890.

It also has a church dating back to 1860, if you’re into historical bits.

There’s also a pier which opened in 1867 – although most of it was knocked-down in 1973.

Not all the locals are so down on it, however.

One woman, Michelle Clarke, said: “I just love the calmness of the sea, it’s beautiful. You can even see the I’m A Celebrity castle – it’s amazing when it’s all lit up at night.

“There is a bad reputation with druggies, too many shops are shutting, it has gone downhill. But if it had the money, Rhyl will be back on the map again.”

And another anonymous bloke said: “You could put Rhyl into any major city, Manchester, London, and it would be paradise.

“It has a bad reputation but as far as I’m concerned, it’s a nice place. There is never any trouble in the town, prices are reasonable.

“There is good and bad in everywhere. Rhyl is turning the corner.”
