The heart-stopping landing at Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport was branded the lowest ever witnessed and caught on tape by tourists observing the plane’s arrival from just outside the runway. The beach close to the Greek airport has been attracting thrill-seeking tourists because of the prime viewpoint offered. In the video, the gathered holidaymakers are filmed excitedly watching as the Wizz Air aircraft approaches the landing strip.

The tourists can be seen ready for the landing with their tripods and cameras at the ready.

The jet is seen picking up dramatic speed as it lowers closer to the ground and hovers over the top of the crowd as tourists can be heard shouting over the roaring engines of the Wizz Air-operated Airbus A321.

As the plane skims over the crowd of tourists’ heads, a gust of air blows toward the crowd around, with one girl seemingly falling to the ground and a woman losing her hat.

Shortly after passing over the crowd, the clip shows the jet landing safely on the airport runway.

Because of the location of the runway, which is flanked by two hills, pilots routinely have to approach the tarmac at a very low altitude.

But the video sparked some criticism among social media users, who questioned the safety of tourists being allowed to stand so close to the airport while planes land.

User @Appleton_Bananas said: “That’s ridiculously unsafe. Look at this still…people are ducking on the bridge.”

@Batsuri said: “A few weeks ago a person was hurt and went to the hospital. She was standing and taking pictures at the exact same spot as these tourists.”

@ContinuousSafety said: “It’s quite low for an A321. The minimum threshold crossing high should be at least 50ft.”

The budget airline announced just weeks ago that they would have to cancel a number of flights that were scheduled to depart from Gatwick over the summer, as it was one of many airlines affected by staff shortages.

Wizz Air said: “Given the current challenging operational environment in the travel industry, in particular with staff shortages within air traffic control and at airports, this decision also stabilises our operations at other UK bases to help minimise disruption and delay as much as possible.

“Despite unprecedented difficulties in the travel industry over the past two years, Wizz Air remains committed to long-term growth in the UK, creating hundreds of direct jobs while also stimulating the tourism and hospitality industries.

Designed with a Spandex blend, the CRZ Naked Feeling Shorts are soft and stretchy, giving you that naked feeling, so you’re free to run, squat, and lunge without restriction.

Rather than restricting your movement, the four-way stretch allows you to move with confidence, and as they offer gentle compression support, it flatters the figure too.

This is largely thanks to the high-rise waistband that gives maximum tummy control, which gently sucks you in without digging in.

Scoring points for performance, comfort and fit, these eight-inch shorts will give you a premium experience but at a seriously enticing price point.

Another agreed, adding: ‘These have far exceeded my expectations… I ordered the longer shorts-not only do they fit and feel just like the lululemon aligns at a fraction of the cost, they are also not see-through when I squat.’

A third penned: ‘I’m curvy, so it’s hard finding biker shorts that are flattering around my thighs and backside. This one did both, and it doesn’t ride up while exercising.

‘I literally wear these shorts to work and to the gym. Buying more so I have a few on hand.’

Mike Preston: Ravens might have found No. 2 option they need in the backfield | COMMENTARY

August 12, 2022 by www.denverpost.com Leave a Comment

The Ravens need a No. 2 running back to complement starter J.K. Dobbins in the early part of the regular season, and veteran Mike Davis got closer to filling that role with a strong effort in the team’s 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans in the preseason opener Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

Throughout the first two weeks of training camp, the Ravens rotated Davis, fourth-year running back Justice Hill and rookie Tyler Badie in the starting lineup, but Davis appeared to separate himself from the pack against the Titans.

There are two unpardonable sins for a running back in the Ravens’ offense: fumbling and failing to pass block. Those mistakes will earn a player a quick spot in coach John Harbaugh’s doghouse. Davis, however, answered any questions about his pass-blocking ability against Tennessee.

Not only did the 29-year-old veteran rush for 22 yards and one touchdown on five carries, but he crushed Titans outside linebacker Rashad Weaver on a chip block on an early pass attempt and later picked up a blitz up the middle.

Those kinds of plays get the attention of a coaching staff.

“I can’t imagine there was a lot of [running] room early,” Harbaugh said. “Tennessee was pretty stout in there. We ran some powers and some leads up there. I think [Davis] ran hard and got a few yards and then he popped a couple, like that TD run. He looked good to me.

“It’s a matter of looking at the tape and grading all of them. But they all looked good.”

In the first two weeks of training camp, Davis ran more sideline-to-sideline instead, which doesn’t fit the Ravens’ downhill, one-cut running game. But on Thursday night, he was decisive. When there was no hole up the middle, he quickly accelerated and bounced outside, which led to a 4-yard touchdown run around the right end in the first quarter.

Hill showed the same kind of burst as he finished with 11 yards on three carries. The 2019 fourth-round draft pick would have had 20 more yards but twice had decent runs nullified on holding penalties by rookie tight end Isaiah Likely. Badie is probably the best receiver of the three and has as much potential as either Davis or Hill, but the former Friends School star lacks experience.

The lack of playing time will have a major impact on who fills the No. 2 slot while Gus Edwards recovers from a torn ACL suffered last summer. The Ravens’ running game isn’t just a key to this offense, but the entire team. They need to have a strong running game to control the tempo and win the field-position battle. They don’t have the quarterback nor the receivers to win a wide-open shootout.

But if the Ravens dictate the pace and play sound defense, they can win most games. Edwards was the perfect closer at 6 feet 1 and 238 pounds, but he isn’t expected to be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 11 against the New York Jets.

At this point, Davis appears to be the Ravens’ best option backing up Dobbins, who returned to practice this week from the physically-unable-to-perform list after suffering a torn ACL last preseason. Davis isn’t as big as Edwards, but he does weigh 220 pounds. In seven NFL seasons with five teams, he has more than 2,000 rushing yards, 1,000 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns.

With the Atlanta Falcons last year, Davis had 503 rushing yards and 259 receiving yards while starting eight of 16 games.

In a perfect world, Edwards would be the Ravens’ ideal No. 2 running back, but that will have to wait until later in the season. Right now, Davis appears to be the best option.

Ukraine war: Mariupol evacuation stalls, as Russian deadline for surrender passes

April 20, 2022 by www.euronews.com Leave a Comment

Russian forces have continued their new offensive in the east of Ukraine, assaulting cities and towns along a front hundreds of kilometres long.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Russian military was throwing everything it has into the battle, which could be pivotal for control of the country’s eastern industrial heartland.

Read more about Wednesday’s events as they unfolded in our blog below, and watch our TV reporting in the video player above.

Wednesday’s key points:

  • Ukraine says a planned evacuation of civilians from Mariupol did not work as planned, blaming Russia for not holding to a ceasefire despite an agreement on a humanitarian corridor. Efforts will resume on Thursday.

  • Russia’s surrender deadline for Mariupol expired Wednesday afternoon, as the city’s Ukrainian defenders say they are facing their “last hours”.

  • Russia has tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile, which Putin says should make its enemies “think twice”. The US responded that the launch was “routine” and did not constitute “a threat”.

  • Russian troops have poured into eastern Ukraine in what both sides describe as a new phase of the war, a potentially pivotal battle for control of the country’s industrial heartland.

  • Visiting Kyiv, European Council President Charles Michel said Putin would succeed neither in destroying Ukraine’s sovereignty, nor in dividing the EU. Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy said that his country’s joining the EU would be a “priority”.

  • Russia says it has presented Ukraine with a draft document outlining its demands as part of potential peace talks, but Kyiv says it hasn’t received it .

  • The number of refugees fleeing Ukraine has topped five million, says the UN.

  • Poll finds majority of Swedes are in favour of joining NATO, as the country deliberates membership of the defensive alliance. Finland’s parliament has also opened a debate on its NATO stance.

Mariupol evacuation effort to resume Thursday after latest breakdown

A top Ukrainian official said Wednesday’s planned evacuation of civilians from Mariupol has failed because of the Russian failure to observe a cease-fire.

Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said “the humanitarian corridor didn’t work as planned” on Wednesday. She added that “the occupiers have failed to ensure a proper cease-fire die to the lack of control over its own military.”

Vereshchuk also charged that “due to the sloppiness” of the Russian military, it has failed to timely deliver those who were willing to evacuate to an area where Ukrainian buses were waiting for them.

She said that efforts to evacuate civilians from Mariupol will resume Thursday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said about 120,000 people remain under siege in the city.

Walkout at G20 in protest at Russia

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko walked out of a Group of 20 meeting Wednesday as Russia’s representative started talking.

Several finance ministers and central bank governors also left the room, according an official familiar with the meetings, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the event was not public. Some ministers and central bank governors who attended the meeting virtually turned their cameras off when the Russia representative spoke, the person said.

The brutal effects of Russia’s war against Ukraine have taken center stage at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank spring meetings, in which finance heads gather to tackle the world’s most pressing issues.

President Joe Biden has said that Russia should not remain a member of the G-20, an international body of the world’s biggest economies that promotes economic cooperation between countries.

Blinken blames Russia for Mariupol evacuation failures

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expressing concerns about a humanitarian corridor Ukraine is trying to set up to evacuate people trapped by Russian forces in Mariupol.

“The conditions there, the situation there, as a result of this Russian aggression, are truly horrific,” Blinken said Wednesday. “Of course, we want to see people who are in harm’s way, if they are able to, to leave it safely and securely.”

Blinken said the U.S. is trying to help by sharing its assessments, but the decision to risk leaving shelter is ultimately up to the Ukrainian government and the people themselves.

“What gives pause is the fact there have been agreements on humanitarian corridors established before that have fallen apart very, very quickly, if not immediately, principally because the security has been violated by Russian forces. And so people leaving, believing that they could do so safely and securely, were fired on,” he said. “We will do everything that we can to try to inform that decision.”

Blinken said the world witnessed “death and destruction and atrocities” after the Russians retreated from Bucha, and “we can only anticipate that when this tide also recedes from Mariupol we’re going to see far worse, if that’s possible to imagine.”

Zelenskyy offers trade for trapped Mariupol civilians

About 1,000 civilians are trapped at a steel mill in Mariupol along with Ukrainian soldiers, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday.

“Behind the backs of our guys in Mariupol there are around a thousand civilians, including women and children,” he said after talks with European Council President Charles Michel.

Zelenskyy added that Russia has stonewalled Ukraine’s attempts to negotiate a safe exit for them. “We are open to different formats of exchange of our people for Russian people, Russian military that they have left behind,” he said.

Ukraine also has tried to get Russia to agree on a humanitarian corridor to evacuate the 120,000 people who Zelenskyy said remain under siege in Mariupol.

Mariupol evacuation stalls, Ukraine blames Russia

Ukraine’s deputy prime minister said on Wednesday that an agreed humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol had not worked as planned, blaming Russian forces for not holding their ceasefire.

Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk also said Russian-organised buses failed to deliver evacuees on time to the point where Ukrainian buses and ambulances were waiting.

Ukrainian officials estimated that about 1,000 civilians were sheltering underneath the vast Azovstal steel plant, which is the last Ukrainian stronghold in the southeastern port city of Mariupol.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday said that country’s armed forces have been unable to “unblock” Mariupol, which has been besieged by Russian forces in a recent push by its military.

He was speaking at a news conference alongside European Council President Charles Michel.

Michel is the latest European leader to visit Zelenskyy in Kyiv since the beginning of the conflict.

Testing of Russian missile ‘not a threat’, says US

The Pentagon has responded to Russia’s test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile, saying it does not constitute “a threat” to the United States or its allies.

The US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby described the launch as “no surprise.”

Moscow “appropriately informed” the US that it would take place, in accordance with Russia’s obligations under existing nuclear treaties.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the test fire took place at 3:12 p.m. (12:12 GMT) and hit a target located more than 5,000 kilometres away.

Vladimir Putin praised the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile as “a unique weapon.”

“[It] will ensure Russia’s security against external threats. and which will make potential opponents think twice,” he said.

The missile – which weighs over 200 tons – is supposed to outperform previous Russian models, which can hit targets 11,000 km away.

Zelenskyy said there are an estimated 1,000 civilians sheltering in Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant, following a visit from President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

He added that the situation in the besieged Ukrainian city is worsening, with hundreds of wounded without access to medical care.

The Ukrainian leader went on to say that he had not seen or heard about a document that the Kremlin said it had sent to Ukraine in connection with peace talks.

Rosie O’Donnell’s teenage daughter ‘met convicted heroin dealer on Tinder’ before being found in his attic

August 25, 2015 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter allegedly met the man arrested in connection with her disappearance on Tinder.

Chelsea O’Donnell was found safe in New Jersey last Tuesday after being missing for a week and Steven Sheerer, who was arrested shortly after, is reportedly set to claim he thought she was of legal age because she was using the dating app.

According to TMZ, the convicted heroin dealer, in his 20s, says he started chatting to the blonde beauty, 17, after he swiped right on her profile, and is set to use it as a defence in court.

His lawyers say Sheerer relied on the app, which separates users into age groups, starting from 18.

Law enforcement sources allegedly told TMZ that they found the evidence of pornographic imagery on Chelsea’s phone, but it is currently unclear when she received it.

Sheerer faces charges of child endangerment and distribution of obscenity to a minor, and if convicted he could serve up to 10 years in prison.

He is currently being held on $40,000 bail.

Prosecutors reportedly said that they had found “inappropriate communications” between Sheerer and Chelsea over several weeks before she was discovered hiding in his attic.

A source close to former The View co-host Rosie , 53, previously admitted she was “extremely concerned” about Chelsea, who is battling mental illness and stopped taking her medication before she went missing.

The mother and daughter enjoyed a peaceful reunion last Wednesday after police located the teenager approximately 130 miles from their home in New York by tracking a signal from her mobile phone.
