The perceived noise of gunfire sent crowds running during two of the country’s largest Pride Parades in New York City and San Francisco this weekend despite law enforcement confirming false alarms.

Despite videos showing Manhattan revelers storming away from the sound of what they thought was a shooting, NYPD Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey confirmed that there had been no shots fired in Washington Square Park, the green epicenter of the Pride celebrations. NYPD said a further investigation determined fireworks were set off at the 9.75-acre public park in Greenwich Village.

Days earlier, tens of thousands of protesters assembled at the park for a pro-abortion protest after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The crowd marched up 6th Avenue, and about two dozen protesters were arrested for blocking traffic near 42nd St., the New York Post reported. On Sunday, Planned Parenthood was the first contingent of the New York City Pride Parade .

In San Francisco, police officers assigned to the Civic Center area for the San Francisco Pride Festival responded at approximately 5:25 p.m. to a report of a shooting near 7th and Market Streets.

However, upon arrival, officers were unable to locate any victims or witnesses, and the police department said it was not immediately apparent if there was any merit to the shooting in the area. The department said officers remained on the scene to ensure the safety and security of Pride events.

The panic came on the heels of high-profile mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York.

This year was the first time pride parades in New York City and San Francisco made a full comeback since they were canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic .

Social media users at both events described chaotic scenes as the crowds began to stampede and people reportedly started running and screaming of shots fired.

Bognet: Democrat Matt Cartwright is a ‘Classic Out of Touch Faker’

June 27, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Trump-endorsed Republican nominee for Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District Jim Bognet told SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Saturday this past weekend that his opponent, Democrat Rep. Matt Cartwright (PA), is a “classic out-of-touch faker” for selling himself out to leadership.

Breitbart News host Matthew Boyle mentioned that Cartwright has voted with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 99 percent of the time and President Joe Biden 100 percent of the time. In response, Bognet called the Democrat representative a “classic out-of-touch faker” with the people in Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District.

The Republican nominee explained that it all started when “Cartwright got elected pretending to be pro-life in 2012” by telling people he was a good Catholic and against abortion. “He has sold out to Biden and Pelosi and the left-wing money. Here’s how it works, Matt: Pelosi and Biden give him $5 million of left-wing money from pro-abortion-on-demand people across the country, and he votes with them,” he added.

“Well, his loyalty is 100 percent to Biden and Pelosi and San Francisco and to the progressives across the country,” Bognet explained. “Cartwright certainly isn’t loyal to Hazleton or Scranton or Wilkes Barre or Wayne County or Pike County.”

Breitbart · Jim Bognet – June 25, 2022

“[Cartwright] just does what they tell him to do. And they reward him with money and power. And that’s the corrupt bargain that he struck, but we’re gonna change that this year,” Bognet continued. “He has tried to fool the voters of Northeast Pennsylvania, but we’re not going to let them anymore. We’re going to take it to them. We’re going to fight them…And it’s going to set the voters of Northeast Pennsylvania free of being represented by a super liberal progressive that stands with the squad — and behind them Pelosi — instead of with the people of Northeast PA.”

“100 percent,” Bognet said, agreeing with Boyle that unseating Cartwright and having a Republican congressman in Scranton, the “quintessential working-class town,” would be a powerful message to Biden and his radical agenda.

Bognet added that beating Cartwright would send a “shockwave” across the country. “This is the number one House race in the nation because it’s the only place where you can directly vote against Joe Biden. You can vote on Joe Biden’s agenda, because Matt Cartwright is bought and paid for and selected by Joe Biden.”

“This is the number one race to say no, stop. No more liberal lunacy in the United States of America,” he explained.

A Northern California Loft Gets a Sophisticated Update

June 14, 2022 by www.nytimes.com Leave a Comment

Martha Hill, a real estate agent in Oakland, Calif., was merely keeping on top of new listings in 2019 when she spotted a remarkable loft about to go on the market.

“I happened to catch it online the night before, and knew I had to make a beeline to see it, because it looked so cool,” said Ms. Hill, 58, who was born and raised in Oakland, and had lived in many parts of the city.

When she arrived at the loft, in a former ironworks in Jack London Square, she wasn’t disappointed. “It’s large, it’s symmetrical, and it’s not one of those conversions where they over-designed funny angles and mezzanines into it,” she said. “It’s just a big, open square with steel-framed windows and concrete pillars throughout.”

Ms. Hill found the simplicity deeply appealing and saw the loft as something of a 1,500-square-foot blank slate where she could create her ideal home. She knew from professional experience that it would sell quickly, so she moved decisively.

The loft was listed for $725,000, and she offered $800,000. “I gave him enough that he was convinced he wouldn’t get more from the competition,” she said of the seller. “But little enough that I was sure I wasn’t overpaying by too terribly much.”

The strategy worked, and she closed on the property that August. Then she began making plans to change it.

The building had been converted to condominiums in 2000, and the interior finishes had a bit too much of a heavy-handed industrial vibe for her liking, including closet doors made from galvanized sheet metal, an island with a butcher-block counter supported by steel pipes and exposed structural pillars highlighted with bright red paint.

“You could almost imagine a coffee maker made out of bike gadgets in there — they had really gone for the industrial,” Ms. Hill said. She wanted to preserve the rugged shell of the space, but “make it very sophisticated.”

Specifically, she hoped the interior would feel as calm and inviting as the lobbies of upscale hotels she had visited in nearby Sonoma County. “I wanted to create that sort of spalike feel, and get to enjoy it every day,” she said.

First, she got rid of the monstrous furnace on full view in a corner of the living space and replaced it with a streamlined mini split. She covered the thin-strip wood flooring with new 12-inch-wide white-oak boards.

Then, to help realize her larger vision, she turned to Lane McNab , a San Francisco-based interior designer whose work she had admired at a friend’s house. “I didn’t want to fall into the trap of having an idea in the bedroom, an idea in the dining room, an idea in the living room and an idea in the kitchen, only to have a big, open space with four ideas competing for attention,” Ms. Hill said. “And I had seen Lane’s work, and how easily and softly she captured one idea and could flow it through space.”

After meeting with Ms. Hill, Ms. McNab knew exactly what to do. “We wanted it to feel high-end and luxurious, but to still respect the rawness of the space, with its concrete walls and exposed pipes,” Ms. McNab said.

That called for employing a simple palette of natural materials and understated colors, she added: “We didn’t want anything lacquered or faux or highly polished.”

In the sleeping area, Ms. McNab replaced the sheet-metal closet doors with a wall of bleached walnut built-ins. She demolished a drywall partition that partially separated the sleeping area from the dining area, and installed an antique folding screen (leaving Ms. Hill the option of adding a steel-and-glass partition in the future).

Another bank of bleached walnut cabinetry runs the length of the dining area and into the living area, before terminating at the windows. In the dining area, the cabinet doors have an asymmetrical arrangement of pulls resembling abstract butterflies, which Ms. McNab sculpted in clay and then had cast in bronze. In the living area, the unit transitions to open shelves that run behind a large, custom-designed U-shaped sofa. Overhead, she installed cable-based lighting that adds illumination without requiring more conduit on the ceiling.

On the other side of the loft, they replaced the kitchen with help from Lisa Cannelora, the owner of Cucina , a kitchen-design company based in Alameda, Calif., who improved the spatial flow and added a larger island with a Neolith counter illuminated by brass-and-walnut Arc pendant lamps from Allied Maker. That space runs into an open office by the windows, where they painted the red structural members black, so they no longer command as much attention.

Ms. Hill moved into the loft in January 2020, after the floors were replaced and the kitchen was installed, and lived there through the rest of the construction. She waited until this year to renovate the bathroom, which brought the total cost up to about $180,000.

Now, “one of my great joys is literally to sit on the couch and look through a magazine or read a book,” she said. “It’s the thing you want to do on vacation but are too busy wine tasting, riding your bike or shopping to do. It’s my sanctuary.”

Colin Kaepernick’s Raiders Workout Was A ‘Disaster’: NFL Hall Of Famer | The Daily Wire

June 27, 2022 by www.dailywire.com Leave a Comment

Colin Kaepernick, who soared to mainstream media fame when he took a knee as the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, hasn’t thrown an NFL pass in five years.

And according to a new report, he might never throw another one.

Kaepernick worked out with the Las Vegas Raiders in May. How’d it go?

“I heard it was a disaster. I heard one of the worst workouts ever,” NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp said during an appearance on VladTV last week.

Kaepernick, who knelt during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, last played on Jan. 1, 2017, for the 49ers.

Sapp — a defensive tackle who played for 13 seasons before being inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2013 — questioned why no footage was released showing the free-agent quarterback’s workout. “I’m wondering how the hell this happened and the tape didn’t get out, right?” he said before declaring he doesn’t think it’s likely Kaepernick returns to the NFL.

Kaepernick’s agent was reportedly “surprised” over Sapp’s assessment. “I guess Warren didn’t talk to the General Manager [Dave Zieger] or the head coach [Josh McDaniels],” Jeff Nalley told Pro Football Talk, according to the New York Post. “I spoke to the GM several times and he said they all thought Kap was in great shape and threw the ball really well and encouraged any team to call him about the workout and he would tell them the same.”

But an “insider” with the NFL Network said last month that the workout “went well.” “ On Colin Kaepernick’s workout with the #Raiders : Sounds like it went well and he impressed. The door is open…” Ian Rapoport wrote on Twitter.

On Colin Kaepernick’s workout with the #Raiders : Sounds like it went well and he impressed. The door is open…

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) May 26, 2022

The 49ers picked Kaepernick in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He led the team to Super Bowl 47 in 2012 but lost in a close game to the Baltimore Ravens. He stayed with the 49ers until they released him in March 2017, and no other team has picked  him up since.

Kaepernick has stayed in the headlines since losing his NFL job. Over the Independence Day holiday in 2017, Kaepernick took to Twitter to protest celebrating the Fourth of July. In a minute-long video, Kaepernick was seen at the Cape Coast Castle, a former slave fort in Ghana. The footage also features the “Door Of No Return” at another slave outpost in Senegal. He questioned why African-Americans would celebrate the day when they were brought to America as slaves.
