Brit Awards 2023 latest — Harry Styles takes four top gongs as fans poke fun at Sam Smith’s ‘attention seeking’ outfit

February 13, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

BRITS fans were stunned as host Mo Gilligan got a major star’s name mixed up during Saturday’s show – while Harry Styles cleaned up with FOUR major awards.

Comedian Mo introduced Lewis Capaldi onto the stage during the Brit Awards ceremony as Sam – leaving fans outraged.

Meanwhile, Becky Hill , David Guetta, Aitch and Beyonce scooped major gongs on the night – with Harry Styles winning Best Album, Best Song, Best Artist and Best Pop/R’n’B Act.

While accepting the gong for best artist, he said: “I want to thank my family for being the most supportive, understanding, patient, loving family I could have ever asked for. I want to thank my mum for signing me up for The X Factor without telling me, so I literally wouldn’t be here without you.”

It comes as Brit Awards viewers have poked fun at Sam Smith’s outfit on social media with one saying: “It’s attention seeking and nothing else,” whilst others compared it to Billy Connolly’s incontinence pants sketch.

    Artist of the year controversy

This year’s Brit Awards — the most glittering night of the UK’s music calendar — had been mired in controversy after the Artist of the Year category was dominated by male acts.

The Best Male and Best Female awards were scrapped in 2021 in a bid to include non-binary artists.

That decision paved the way for a male-dominated winners list this year — with just six of the 15 awards collected by female artists.

Prince Harry and William’s secret meeting to ‘shed light on their memories’

May 29, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Prince Harry and William arranged a secret meeting with their late mum’s butler before the Duke of Sussex’s wedding to Meghan Markle , it has been claimed.

The brothers met with Paul Burrell a week before Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle in 2017.

According to a royal source, Mr Burrell “shed some light on their memories” in the “very low-key meeting”.

The former butler, who also served as a footman for the Queen, was known to have been a confidante to the brothers’ mum – as she called him a “rock”.

But following a falling out over her death in 1997, Mr Burrell wrote a book about her.

And Harry and William were reported to have previously last spoken to the 64-year-old after Diana’s funeral, when they were 12 and 15.

Paul Burrell, Diana’s ex-butler, “shed some light on their memories” of their mother in a “very low-key meeting”, according to a royal source (

They felt that the ex-butler was milking his position to make money following Diana’s death by writing the book A Royal Duty where he talked about their friendship.

But now, it has been claimed that the brothers met with the former butler alone in 2017, where he answered all of the questions the brothers’ had.

The Sun ’s royal source said: “It was a very low-key meeting but the brothers wanted to speak to someone who had been close to their mother.

“There were some aspects of her life they felt Paul could provide better clarity on. They asked to keep it all under wraps and he respected that. Paul was happy to tell them everything he knew and shed some light on their memories.”

Mr Burrell has also criticised Harry for some of the revelations in Spare, saying he doesn’t recognise who the prince has become (

The former butler spoke to the Mirror about Harry’s accusations, and said: “(Harry) has discarded me” (

The former royal butler, who recently appeared on I’m A Celebrity: South Africa, opened up about how Diana “would have desperately wanted” William and Harry back together.

The brothers previously accused Mr Burrell of a “cold and overt betrayal” after he published his 2001 book A Royal Duty – which contained private revelations.

Harry wrote about the book in his 2023 controversial memoir Spare, describing how he learned of the book when he was working as an unpaid farmhand in Australia aged 19 in 2003 after leaving Eton.

Writing he’d received a package from Buckingham Palace, including a memo from the royal communications team concerning ‘a delicate matter’, he said: “Mummy’s former butler had penned a tell-all which actually told nothing. It was merely one man’s self-justifying, self-centring version of events.

“My mother once called this butler a dear friend, trusted him implicitly. We did too. Now this.

“He was milking her disappearance for money. It made my blood boil.”

Meanwhile, Mr Burrell has also criticised Harry for some of the revelations in Spare, saying he doesn’t recognise who the prince has become.

Mr Burrell spoke to the Mirror about Harry’s accusations, and said: “(Harry) has discarded me, but he hasn’t thought about all of those years that I spent with his mother, in private, loving her, caring for her, watching out for her.

“I’ve been dismissed and I’m very sad about that.”

Buckingham Palace and Paul Burrell have been contacted for comment by The Mirror.

It’s no secret that money is tight for many of us right now, what with the cost of living crisis.

However, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the festival fun.

Forget Glastonbury , there are plenty of ways to get your festival fix on a budget this year.

Where is it? Herrington Park, Sunderland

How much are tickets? From £37

Kubix Festival promises the ultimate nostalgia fix this year, with Sugababes, Basshunter, Five, Blue, A1, and 911 on the bill.

The festival runs over two days, with July 15 dedicated to pop and dance acts, while July 22 welcomes a rock and alternative line-up.

Squeeze, The Enemy, Terrorvision, and more feature on the latter, bringing their biggest tunes to Sunderland across two stages.

Tickets begin at £37 with camping and VIP options also available, as well as child tickets for ages 6-15.

When is it? May 31-June 4

Where is it? The Complex, Edinburgh

How much are tickets? From £25

Hidden Door is a five-day experience in Edinburgh, Scotland.

There are three performance spaces this year, with indie rock band Porridge Radio, Grammy-winning Hot 8 Brass Band, electronica and techno producer Max Cooper, and radical pop collective NiNE8 all performing.

There’ll also be sets from Irish rockers Pillow Queens, jazz collective Corto.alto, alt-pop singer Berta Kennedy, and more.

But music isn’t the only thing on offer, oh no, as there’ll also be visual art displays showcasing the work of local artists, poetry and spoken word readings, dance performances, film projections, and even opera.

Hidden Door markets itself as an arts charity that ‘opens up urban spaces to showcase new and emerging artists, musicians, theatre makers, performers, film makers and poets’, and that’s definitely true.

As for pricing, tickets start from £25 and they really don’t go much higher – everyone’s a winner!

When is it? Aug 18-28

Where is it? Victoria Park, London

How much are tickets? From £62

While tickets for the music events start in the £60 region, there’s also plenty to take part in that won’t cost a penny.

The festival is child-friendly too, with tickets for ages 5-15 starting at around £18, while under fours go free.

General admission tickets for adults begin at £63, with weekend tickets also available if you’re keen not to miss out on a thing.

When is it? June 30-July 3

Where is it? Over Farm, Gloucester

How much are tickets? From £90

Barn on the Farm is held at Over Farm just outside Gloucester.

Over four days, attendees can enjoy performances from main stage headliners Lizzy McAlpine, Bleachers, and Holly Humberstone.

The final evening, however, includes a yet-to-be-announced secret headliner – and we’re very intrigued to discover who it is.

You can assure you’ll be in safe hands with Barn on the Farm, though, given that Tom Grennan, James Bay, Bastille, Hozier, and Ed Sheeran have all performed there in the past.

There’s plenty more where they came from too, as a whole bunch of acts will take to the stage, as well as some late night DJs and even surprise special guests.

Once again, it’s family-friendly, with children under 10 getting in for free and day passes and weekend tickets available for adults.

And if you fancy making a real experience of the whole thing, why not bring your tent and camp under the stars?

Boardmasters

When is it? August 9-13

Where is it? Newquay, Cornwall

How much are tickets? From £90

Liam Gallagher will even be there!

Meanwhile, in between all the excitement of the live music, the Boardmasters Open will see the best of the UK and international surfers go head-to-head in the country’s biggest surf competition, which has been going since 1981.

It’s the perfect holiday festival, super chilled, super relaxed, and just all-round great vibes.

Tickets are available in tiers and, once again, it’s family-friendly.

The performances all take place in a super intimate setting for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Artists take to the stage in Base Court, set against the backdrop of Tudor history with a 3,000-seated auditorium.

Meanwhile, depending on your vibe on the day, there’ll also be chilled acoustic sets outside from up-and-coming artists.

Tickets range in price with VIP experiences also on offer – you can even order a picnic!

When is it? June 10 and 11

Where is it? Heaton Park, Manchester

How much are tickets? From £84

Festival-goers can also expect DJ sets from the likes of Annie Mac, DJ Paulette, Honey Dijon, Eliza Rose, and Shy FX.

There really is something for everyone and while it might not be the cheapest of all the budget festivals (general admission is £84.50), it definitely offers value for money.

But you need to be quick, because Parklife tickets sell like hot cakes…

Soccer Aid 2023 England manager CONFIRMED – and it’s a massive music star making his debut

STORMZY will manage the England team at Soccer Aid 2023.

The 29-year-old rapper’s debut at the charity event was confirmed on Thursday morning.

He will head up a coaching staff which includes legendary Premier League boss Harry Redknapp , five-time Women’s Super League-winning manager Emma Hayes, and actress Vicky McClure.

West Ham academy coach Zavon Hines – a friend of Stormzy’s – will also be a part of the backroom team.

And Stormzy has spoken passionately about taking up the challenge for the game against a Soccer Aid World XI – which takes place at Old Trafford on June 11.

Stormzy, real name Michael Omari, said: “I’m a massive football fan, so getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to manage England is a dream come true.

“The fact it’s at Old Trafford, and I’m a Manchester United fan, makes it extra special.

“Growing up, I have such good memories of watching Soccer Aid and all the star names who have taken part over the years.”

He continued: “I like to explore opportunities outside of music and when this one came across my desk I was delighted. This is an opportunity to show the world my football mind!

“I’m taking this really seriously. I don’t want the players saying they loved my last album – seriously, it’s just about winning the game for me. I’ll put the fire in them.

Stormzy will coach a number of ex-footballers next month including Scott, Neville, Scholes, Nicky Butt, Jack Wilshere, Jermain Defoe, Karen Carney and Eni Aluko.

But he confirmed that Wayne Rooney would be his dream player to coach.

He said: “If I could pick any player to play for me it would be Wayne Rooney, all day long – it would be an honour to manage him.

“My other footballing heroes growing up were Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes – but I would have played like Rio Ferdinand had I ever turned pro!”

Stormzy even joked he may call legendary manager Jose Mourinho for advice towards the end of the game.

He said: “I’ve got a really good coaching team with me and if we’re struggling with 10 minutes to go I’ll call my mate Jose!”

England coaching team confirmed so far: Stormzy, Harry Redknapp, Emma Hayes, Vicky McClure, David Seaman.
