White House Says Joe Biden Will Veto House GOP’s Energy Bill

March 27, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The White House says President Joe Biden would veto the House Republicans’ major energy legislation package “in its current form” if it passes through Congress, claiming it would not help Americans.

Ahead of the House voting on H.R. 1, Lower Energy Costs Act — where it is expected to pass — the White House released a statement on Monday saying the Biden administration “strongly opposes” the legislation and that the president would veto the energy package if it passes through the Senate and makes it to his desk “in its current form.”

The White House claimed that the legislation, “in its current form,” does the “opposite” of what the administration is doing to try to reduce energy costs for American families and “would pad oil and gas company profits…  and undercut our public health and environment”:

H.R. 1 would double the cost of energy efficiency upgrades that families need to reduce household bills and would repeal the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund that will cut energy costs and boost economic development in rural and urban communities across the country. H.R. 1 would also empower big companies to skirt the Clean Air Act by lifting pollution control requirements, weaken emissions requirements and worker protection for refineries using toxic chemicals, modify requirements under the bipartisan Toxic Substances Control Act for determining the safety of chemicals used in the energy sector, and repeal $1.5 billion in investments focused on curbing methane leaks that harm surrounding communities.

Despite what the White House is saying, Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) office has previously stated that the legislation would focus on two main priorities: “increasing the production and export of American energy and reducing the regulatory burdens that make it harder to build American infrastructure and grow our economy.”

“The Biden administration has kneecapped American energy production, and endlessly delayed critical infrastructure projects,” the Speaker’s office has previously stated. “Democrats’ misguided policies increased costs for every American and jeopardized our national security – and they’ve made the rest of the world more reliant on dirtier energy from Russia and China.”

The legislation is said to be up for a vote this week in the House, where it is expected to pass in the new Republican majority easily. But the legislation is expected not to have as easy as a time in the Senate, where the Democrats have a slim majority and will likely face some challenges.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has previously said that the Lower Energy Costs Act is “dead on arrival” in the Senate, even though some Democrat senators who are up for reelection — such as Sen. Jon Tester and Sen. Joe Manchin — have been willing to join Republican on some GOP backed efforts in the upper chamber.

White House Wants New Rules to Shut Down Briefing Room Chaos

March 27, 2023 by www.thedailybeast.com Leave a Comment

This reporting is featured in this week’s edition of Confider , the newsletter pulling back the curtain on the media. Subscribe here and send your questions, tips, and complaints here .

The White House press office is seeking to toughen its requirements for journalist “ hard passes ,” two people familiar with the situation told Confider.

Such rule changes would likely affect notorious gadflies like Simon Ateba, who has repeatedly disrupted press briefings including last week’s event featuring the cast of Apple TV’s Ted Lasso .

According to our sources, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre would like a quick return to Obama-era credentialing requirements for hard passes, which take several months to process and allow reporters to regularly enter the White House complex without prior permission. (Other journalists would request temporary day passes through the press office.)

During the Obama years, the White House typically only issued such passes to reporters who were also accredited by a chamber of Congress or the Supreme Court . In order to receive such accreditations, applicants must be primarily occupied as a journalist, work for a reputable media company, and regularly cover Washington, among other requirements.

Besides Ateba, who revealed earlier this month that the White House Correspondents Association rejected his membership because they “did not see evidence” that he is employed by a legitimate news-gathering organization, the new rules could impact freelancers and independent journalists who cover the White House.

While sources stressed to Confider that the press office has mulled changing the rules for a year now, they also acknowledged that reporters like Ateba had been a disruptive force in the briefing room throughout that time—and potentially a reason to stiffen the rules.

Although the Trump administration loosened many Obama-era restrictions for hard passes, it also implemented new restrictions —after briefly revoking CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s pass—that required journalists to have been on the White House grounds 50 percent of the time prior to renewal (with some exceptions).

The White House press office declined to comment.

White House hits back at Netanyahu’s son saying U.S. behind Israel protests

March 27, 2023 by www.newsweek.com Leave a Comment

The White House responded to accusations made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s son about the role of the United States in the protests unfolding in the country.

Last week, Yair Netanyahu shared an article from the far-right website Breitbart claiming that the U.S. is funding the anti-government protests unfolding in Israel in order to overthrow his father and force his government to come to an agreement with Iran .

“These accusations are completely false,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz .

The spokesperson said that the Movement for Quality Government—an independent, non-partisan, non-profit, pro-democracy organization that has been part of the demonstrations in Israel—”received a modest grant from the State Department that was initiated during the previous administration,” adding that “the last disbursal of funds came in September of 2022, well before the last Israeli election.”

The grant, according to the spokesperson, “supported an educational program for Jerusalem schools that supplemented their civic studies curriculum.”

But fears and suspicions that the U.S. might be interfering with Israel’s affairs appear to go beyond just the prime minister’s son. A senior Israeli official quoted by Haaretz said that this is “not the first time the U.S. has interfered in Israel’s domestic affairs. They tried to remove Netanyahu from office twice before. They have rudely interfered in the past. [Former U.S. President Bill] Clinton tried to get rid of Netanyahu. He admitted as much.”

Pressure on Netanyahu’s government has been growing in recent weeks as hundreds of thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets to protest against a controversial judicial reform that the prime minister intends to push through.

The planned change to the country’s justice system would allow Netanyahu’s government—the most right-wing in the history of Israel—to take control over the committee which appoints judges and overrules courts’ decisions.

One reform, removing the power of the attorney general to pronounce a sitting prime minister as unfit for office, has already been approved. Critics of the policy say Netanyahu wants to pass the legislation to avoid being prosecuted for corruption, fraud and breach of trust—all charges which he denies.

Protests are expected to escalate on Monday when right-wing activists said they would join the demonstrations. Netanyahu on Twitter encouraged protesters on “right and left to behave responsibly and not act violently.”

The protest movement is largely leaderless and comes from different sectors of society, including—rather surprisingly—military reservists.

Newsweek reached out to the State Department via email for comment.

Speaking to Hello! magazine , Jaime revealed: ‘Right now, I’m looking into Dr Gowri Motha’s gentle birth method and hypnobirthing. Kate (Moss) and a few others have been telling me about how the method makes such a huge difference.

‘The approach to birth is chilled – there’s no fear and dread and no drugs. I’m very much into meditation and control.

‘I’m just at the point where I’m going to start the hypnobirthing programme and try to come to a decision on how I do it. I might even have the baby at home. We’ll see as things progress,’ she revealed.

In 2018, it was also revealed that Jamie may have secretly wed her long-term partner James Suckling.

The Love, Rosie star introduced James as her ‘husband’, before looking a little flustered and adding, ‘I mean, my fiance’ when interviewed by the Daily Mail.

It was revealed that year that DJ James had popped the question, and the pair had started planning their nuptials.

Karine Jean-Pierre, liberal reporters’ hypocrisy in White House briefing room covers up this truth

Karine Jean-Pierre is trying to silence me: Simon Ateba

Today News Africa reporter Simon Ateba shares why he believes he was kicked out of the White House Correspondents’ Association on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.’

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

The White House press corps is a microcosm of the national media. It is overwhelmingly liberal, stuffed with Joe Biden voters . So, it was downright weird when former press secretary Jen Psaki told the Los Angeles Times she sometimes thought, “I am an orderly in an insane asylum.”

The briefing room is usually a tank of hungry sharks for a Republican press secretary, and a classroom full of teacher’s pets for a Democrat press secretary. The news cycle has to be pretty negative for reporters to sound hostile to Biden’s press aides.

On March 20, Black reporter Simon Ateba from an obscure website called Today News Africa began screaming at the very top of the briefing that current press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was not calling on him so he could ask his questions. Other reporters joined the fight, insisting Ateba press his complaints off camera.

There should be decorum at press briefings. The White House is not a place for egotistical shouting by reporters, no matter the outlet. But some people have thought they could secure fame and fortune by doing it.

REPORTER SLAMS KARINE JEAN-PIERRE FOR REFUSING TO TAKE HIS QUESTIONS: ‘THEY LOOK DOWN ON ME’

Before him, CNN’s Jim Acosta routinely yelled at former President Donald Trump , and was celebrated as heroic and was gushed over by Stephen Colbert. Acosta constantly suggested Trump would get journalists brutalized or killed, and wrote a self-congratulatory memoir titled “The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America.”

In 2017, April Ryan squabbled with Trump press secretary Sean Spicer, and then she joined CNN as a political analyst. That year, she also was named “Journalist of the Year” by the National Association of Black Journalists. This will never happen to Ateba. She also wrote a self-promoting memoir titled “Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House.”

Brian Karem, who wrote about Trump for Playboy, also secured a political analyst gig at CNN after yelling at Sarah Huckabee Sanders . So, it was remarkable hypocrisy for Karem to scold Ateba about how this “isn’t just about you” and to “mind your manners.”

Then reporter Zeke Miller of The Associated Press felt the need to apologize to the American public for Ateba’s outbursts. Miller claimed, “We’re here to ask questions on their behalf, to hold their government accountable because they can’t all be here. And – this – this isn’t about us.”

Jean-Pierre expressed her appreciation for the apology. But at least half of America has zero confidence that AP reporters will ask tough questions for them, or hold the president accountable. Last year, AP’s Josh Boak secured a rare interview with Biden and began with: “I’m really interested in how you’re thinking and how you’re making choices during what seems like a really unique time in American history.”

I was a White House reporter for World magazine in the first two years of George W. Bush’s presidency, a Christian news weekly. I didn’t always get called on, but I never raised my voice, since that wouldn’t have reflected well on my employer. I resisted the temptation to ask press secretary Ari Fleischer naughty questions like “Do you think Helen Thomas has become a crackpot?”

This White House has been extremely limited in granting access to President Biden, who prefers interviews with former Obama aide Kal Penn and actress Drew Barrymore. Karine Jean-Pierre is really in no place to lecture that the American people deserve a better press corps when their goal is for the president to avoid it as much as possible.
