Groomer

I took my dog to the groomer & now she looks like a totally different animal – she should be roaming the savannah

March 20, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

A WOMAN who took her dog to the groomer’s says her beloved pooch now looks like a totally different animal.

The TikTok user known as “epcathletics” took to the social media site to share footage to her 58,000 followers of the adorable pet before and after getting a “haircut”.

At the start of the short clip the Australian shepherd appears on a lead with a big, shaggy coat.

The TikToker captioned the footage: “My dog got a haircut and now she looks like a giraffe”.

It then cuts to the dog after having its fur cut off as it sits calmly in the back of the woman’s car with its head poking above the front seats.

The loveable dog looks almost unrecognisable from its previous appearance.

It comes after another woman posted before and after footage of her dog when going to the groomer’s.

User “trixxiecam” jokingly captioned her footage: “I think the groomer gave me the wrong dog?”

She added the hashtag “Ewok” referencing the fictional animals that live on the planet moon of Endor in the Star Wars film Return of the Jedi.

Last month, another woman took to the site to claim she had been scammed after goldendoddle puppy changed colour as it grew up.

The dog owner shared photos of her brown furred pooch.

As the clip plays out, the fluffy dog gradually gets lighter and lighter in colour.

The dog, named Porter, then starts to get patches of white fur as clumps of dark fall away.

Porter eventually turns completely white.

However, many users said the change of fur was normal in this breed of dog.

My furry German shepherd cross came back looking like a RAW CHICKEN after I made silly mistake at the groomers

March 17, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

A MAN was left in hysterics after his adorable pooch returned form the groomers looking like a raw chicken.

Leigh Simmons could hardly believe his eyes when he picked up his German shepherd looking more like uncooked meat than a puppy .

The then 27-year-old, originally from South Wales , took his pooch to the groomers in China where he had been working for seven months.

But there was one problem, Leigh couldn’t speak a word of Chinese.

When the dog-dad arrived at the groomers, he could only made a buzzing noise and shaving motion to describe the look he wanted.

Leigh said: “I wanted to shave the dog for the summer. It’s really hot here at the moment.

“The woman spoke no English and I speak very, very little Chinese. I ended up miming shaving the dog and I made a ‘bzzz’ sound. The woman nodded and told me to come back at 4”.

The mutt, named Seren, was then left in the hands of the groomers and nothing could prepare his owner for what happened next.

“I came back and saw the dog and just started laughing hysterically. I could barely stand up, I was laughing so much,” said Leigh.

“The poor women working there were so confused. They looked embarrassed, like they were worried I wasn’t going to pay them. But I did. It cost me roughly £10.”

The pup-owner was left baffled by the haircut mishap but admitted that many dogs has this closely shaven hairstyle in Shenzen.

“Everyone in China has a poodle. Lots of them have this style. I just didn’t think at the time that the French poodle look that you see in films was the standard model for shaving dogs out here,” he added.

This follows the story of a woman who was left horrified after her beloved dog was given an awful haircut that made it look like a raw chicken.

TikTok user Sarah posted a video about the hilarious mishap, giving a before and after view of her Goldendoodle , Scout.

Another woman was shocked when her pooch returned from the groomer looking like a totally different breed .

She even hit out at the groomers in a social media video claiming “they went too far”.

And a pet owner was left in stitches when her adorable fluffy pooch returned from the groomers resembling Shaun the Sheep .

The late Queen’s death gives major UK tourism boost as Windsor Great Park named top spot

The late Queen’s parting gift to Britain was a massive boost to its flagging tourism industry, new figures show. Windsor Great Park, the magnificent grounds adjacent to the towering castle, was the UK’s most visited place last year.

Some 5,636,844 flocked to the Berkshire town to marvel at the Long Walk and Deer Park and where the Queen called home.

The monarch, who died on September 8 aged 96, was buried alongside her husband prince Philip in Windsor Castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel 11 days later.

The seismic event sparked huge interest with record numbers visiting land owned by the Crown Estate.

Her Statue Funeral on 19 September – the first in Britain since Sir Winston Churchill in 1965 – was held at Westminster Abbey, itself the 21st most popular attraction, drawing 1,063,063 visitors.

Overall, 123.4million visits were made to UK attractions – a 69 percent increase on 2021 when Britain was shackled by lockdown restrictions.

Bernard Donoghue, director of The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, said: “These figures show visitors flocked back to their favourite places in 2022 to breathe, heal, repair and to enjoy special moments with special people in special places. The year ended strongly with attractions reporting a very busy Christmas, strong visitor numbers and strong retail sales. “People clearly wanted to create special memories with their loved ones after two difficult years and a challenging economic climate.”

He added: “We are still experiencing the tourism equivalent of long Covid with many attractions still not back up to 2019 visitor levels due, mainly, to the absence of international visitors, notably from China and the Far East, but I am confident they will return this year and we will see a continuing healthy recovery.”

Other top attractions that drew huge numbers included Stonehenge in Wiltshire, Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill in Oxfordshire, Eden Project in Cornwall, and Canterbury Cathedral.

Although the number of visits overall was a 23 percent decline on the 161.2 million witnessed in 2019, it represents a massive fillip for domestic tourism ahead of what is expected to be a record breaking summer season.

London remains the biggest pull, with nine of the top 10 spots filled with attractions in the capital, including the Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, The National Gallery and Tower of London. The region that saw the biggest year-on-year growth was the North West.

The tonic comes as Britain’s global appeal will see tourists flood here this summer, providing a £30billion shot in the arm.

Some 35 million overseas visitors are set to touch down in the UK to explore the diverse riches on offer.

The forecast signals a return to pre-Covid levels and comes as industry chiefs embark on an aggressive international sell.

Tourists from the USA, Canada, the Gulf, France, Germany and Spain top the list of international travellers heading here to soak up major set-piece events including King Charles’s Coronation, Eurovision, Wimbledon and the unrivalled summer festival season.

Visit Britain chief Patricia Yates said: “We know there is pent-up demand for travel and that tourism is also a fiercely competitive global industry. Our priority is to build on the recovery we have seen.

“All eyes are on Britain this year and by telling the story of our dynamic destinations and diverse culture, along with a warm British welcome, we’re inspiring visitors to discover more, stay longer and explore year-round, supporting local businesses and economies.”

The spending forecast comes after a torrid three years during which tourism was battered by travel restrictions. The positive outlook is up 4 percent up on the all-time spending high of £28.4 billion in 2019 and projected inbound visits to the UK are 86 percent of 2019 levels.

A view of London

London remains the biggest pull (Image: Getty)

In May millions are expected to soak up the pomp and pageantry of the Coronation. The event will take place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, with Monday, May 8 declared a public holiday.

The following weekend the Eurovision Song Contest comes to Liverpool after Ukraine , winner of the 2022 edition, was unable to stage the event due to security concerns.

Spending by cash-rich Americans is set to be up 40 percent on 2019, based on latest statistics.

The rush to Britain comes after the tourism industry suffered a £97billion hit during the pandemic and tens of thousands of businesses and attractions lost months of trading. In 2020 the industry saw two-thirds of its value wiped off.

Malcolm Bell, Char of Visit Cornwall, said: “In Cornwall we have seen a revival of interest from our overseas customers, especially from the USA, making up for the Covid years when we only had the domestic market. Cornwall has certainly not lost its global appeal and is benefiting from the pent-up demand caused by the travel restrictions in the pandemic.”

DeSantis, on Defense, Shows Signs of Slipping in Polls

March 17, 2023 by www.nytimes.com Leave a Comment

It’s been a tough few months for Ron DeSantis.

Donald J. Trump and his allies have blasted him as “Meatball Ron,” “Ron DeSanctimonious,” a “groomer,” disloyal and a supporter of cutting entitlement programs. Now, he’s getting criticism from many mainstream conservatives for calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “territorial dispute.”

Is all of this making a difference in the polls? There are signs the answer is yes.

In surveys taken since the Trump offensive began two months ago, Mr. DeSantis, the Florida governor, has steadily lost ground against Mr. Trump, whose own numbers have increased.

It can be hard to track who’s up and who’s down in the Republican race, since different pollsters have had such wildly divergent takes on Mr. Trump’s strength. In just the last few days, a CNN/SSRS poll showed a tight race, with Mr. DeSantis at 39 percent and Mr. Trump at 37 percent among registered voters, while a Morning Consult poll found Mr. Trump with nearly a two-to-one lead, 52 percent to 28 percent.

In this situation, the best way to get a clear read on recent trends is to compare surveys by the same pollsters over time.

Over the last two months, we’ve gotten about a dozen polls from pollsters who had surveyed the Republican race over the previous two months. These polls aren’t necessarily of high quality or representative, so don’t focus on the average across these polls. It’s the trend that’s important, and the trend is unequivocal: Every single one of these polls has shown Mr. DeSantis faring worse than before, and Mr. Trump faring better.

A Widening Gap Between Trump and DeSantis

Every recent poll has shown Mr. DeSantis faring worse than he did two months ago — around the time Mr. Trump began publicly attacking him.

Sometimes it’s hard to explain why the polls move the way they do. This doesn’t seem to be one of those cases. It’s easy to tell a tidy story about why Mr. DeSantis has slipped.

  • The DeSantis election bump is over. In the aftermath of the midterms, Mr. DeSantis benefited from extensive media coverage of his landslide win in Florida and Mr. Trump’s role in the G.O.P.’s disappointing showing.

  • Trump went on offense. Beginning in mid-to-late January, Mr. Trump began testing various lines of attack, criticizing Mr. DeSantis’s loyalty and his consistency on Covid issues. In early February on his Truth Social site, Mr. Trump shared a photo and posts suggesting Mr. DeSantis was “grooming” female students when he was a high school teacher two decades ago . He has kept up the pressure ever since.

  • DeSantis is on the sideline. When Mr. Trump attacked him, there was not much of a defense by Mr. DeSantis or counterattacks on Mr. Trump, whether by Mr. DeSantis or his allies. Mr. DeSantis hasn’t even declared his candidacy yet.

It’s a little hard to figure out which of these explanations matters most. Looking more carefully at the data, there’s reason to think all of these factors play a role.

For instance, there’s decent evidence that Mr. DeSantis was slipping even before Mr. Trump’s attacks began in earnest. A Monmouth University poll from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2 showed a significant deterioration in Mr. DeSantis’s support compared with a poll from early December. At this early point, the shift in the Monmouth poll and other surveys looks more like a fading post-midterm bounce than the effect of Mr. Trump’s attacks.

But Mr. DeSantis has kept losing ground in more recent polls, long after his midterm bump should have dissipated. This week, a Quinnipiac survey showed Mr. Trump making big gains over just the last month, with his lead growing by 12 points.

On average, Mr. DeSantis has lost four points in polls taken over the last month compared with polls by the same pollster between Jan. 15 and Feb. 15.

How important is it that Mr. DeSantis is losing ground? It may wind up not mattering much in itself, but it could say something important about the challenges facing the DeSantis campaign.

So far, there’s little evidence that Mr. DeSantis has suffered serious or irreparable damage, even if he’s lost ground against Mr. Trump. His favorability ratings, for instance, remain strong: The new Quinnipiac survey showed him with an exceptional 72-6 favorability rating among Republicans. If the media conversation becomes more favorable, his position against Mr. Trump could easily rebound.

But there is a chance this episode betrays a deeper problem for Mr. DeSantis, even if the attacks themselves haven’t been especially harmful. He and his team have failed to respond to the attacks or shift the conversation, and it’s possible that’s because he and his allies don’t think they can safely engage the former president. It would help explain why Mr. Trump’s attacks have largely gone uncontested. It would help explain their effort to narrow areas of substantive disagreement with Mr. Trump, including on a topic like Ukraine in which Mr. DeSantis is now at odds with around half of his own likeliest supporters.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the DeSantis team was hesitant to engage someone who remains popular among Republicans and who has, shall we say, an ability to engage asymmetrically, as his “groomer” attacks highlighted. That’s a lesson a few former presidential candidates from Florida learned all too well in 2016.

But if attacking Mr. Trump carries risks, so does allowing him to punch without a vigorous defense or a counterpunch. If you need proof, you can just look at Mr. DeSantis’s slipping poll numbers.

A middle-aged man feared he was “going to die” when a dog attacked him during his morning stroll and had him “screaming” when he felt his “bone breaking”. Chris Oakes, 40, was on his way home with his Staffordshire bull terriers, Frank and Betty, when the American bulldog wrenched his arm, tore the skin open, and viciously attacked the broken bone. While the decorator had three-year-old Frank on a lead, his girlfriend was with two-year-old Betty.

Chris told the Daily Mirror : “I was screaming, my girlfriend was screaming. When I felt my bone breaking in its mouth I shouted ‘I’m going to die’.”

The 40-year-old recounted he “heard” something “sprinting” from behind him towards his girlfriend and him. He described the dog as “so quick” it was “already on us” by the time he “turned round”.

He said: “It immediately latched on to my dog. As I turned round to get my dog away from it, it grabbed onto my arm and tried pulling me to the ground.

“I felt my arm break straight away in its mouth.”

Chris

Chris said the dog bit his arm to the bone (Image: Julian Hamilton/Daily Mirror)

He added: “It was like he had a rope in its mouth. It was shaking my arm from side to side. It was trying to rip my arm off. I thought I was going to die.”

The dog tore his flesh by tearing through the fabric of his work hoodie, leaving a “lot of blood everywhere”.

Chris was able to break free from the dog after it came back again and finally “ran off”. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment of an open fracture in his right forearm.

The doctor said it had “chewed” the ulna bone in his forearm, according to Chris, whose left ring finger was also severely bitten.

Following the incident in January, Chris, from Chadderton, Greater Manchester, stayed at Royal Oldham Hospital for three days.

He had 22 stitches, a metal plate, and six pins put into his arm. Chris’ finger required eight stitches as well. He still wears a cast, which prevents him from working because his wounds have not completely recovered.

Despite reporting the incident, Chris claimed the police said they would not investigate the case further because he did not know the dog’s owner.

He said: “All I wanted them to do was drive around because I live next to a school and I said it could have been a child that was attacked.”

The decorator believes the dogs’ “aggressive” behaviour is the result of owners’ “abuse” and “mistreatment”.

Dog attacks have been on the rise since 2020 with a 26 percent increase. 8,655 admissions to the hospital were due to dog bites and injuries in 2021 and 2022.
