According to The Sun, the ceremony was carried out by Brendan Paul, owner of the chapel and also one of the most famous Elvis impersonators in Las Vegas.

A lady at Brendan’s Sin City residence told the publication: “He cannot comment about it because of privacy but he is really well known as Elvis.”

Lily was previously married to builder and decorator Sam Cooper, and their wedding was a much grander affair.

The couple wed in Gloucester, as St James’ Church during the summer of 2011.

Ceremonies conducted at the chapel are filmed and broadcasted live so family members can tune in if they are unable to attend.

It was built just 73 years ago by Scottish immigrants and was originally named after Gretna Green.

On 1967 the king himself, Elvis Presley, dropped in on an unannounced visit according to their website.

Ten years later when he died, the chapel renamed it in his honour and held the first-ever Elvis inspired nuptials in Vegas.

Don’t Need Military On Rent, Agnipath Scheme Must Be Taken Back: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

June 17, 2022 by news.abplive.com Leave a Comment

New Delhi: Amid massive anti-Agnipath protests, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took potshots at the Centre on Friday, saying the nation does not “need military on rent” and the recruitment scheme must be withdrawn. “Politicians never retire, it’s only soldiers, public who retire…We don’t need military on rent. Agnipath scheme must be taken back,” news agency ANI quoted Mann as saying.

“We can’t keep soldiers on rent. How can we make them ex-soldiers merely at age of 21? They protect country in harsh conditions,” he added.

Mann also vented his ire on Twitter while demanding an immediate rollback of the decision.

“After stopping recruitment to the Army for two years, the Centre’s new diktat is that stay in the Army for four years and then don’t get pension. This is an insult to the Army. It is a cheating with the youth of the country,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform in Hindi.

Commenting on increase in incidents of Khalistan posters appearing in the state, Mann said: “We are also nabbing those involved in it.”

“It’s all politics because some are still wondering how a teacher’s son became the CM and ran the state government effectively,” he added.

The Punjab Chief Minister also out at the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for allegedly patronising “notorious criminals” and “mafia” during their respective regimes, news agency PTI reported.

Addressing a roadshow in Dirba, Sangrur, in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-poll to be held next week, Mann vowed to make Punjab a “gangster-free land” and make the state prosperous in the coming days.

Mann, who was canvassing for AAP candidate Gurmail Singh for the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-poll for the second consecutive day, hit out at the Opposition parties stating those responsible for introducing gangster culture in Punjab are today making hue and cry over it.

Stating everyone knows that previous governments in Punjab had allegedly patronised the gangsters and used them for fulfilling their political interests, Mann said: “I haven’t brought gangsters with me but I assure you that I will make the state a gangster-free land.”

The Punjab Chief Minister said that Opposition leaders have been alarmed by his government’s action against corruption and the mafia, adding many are now afraid of going to jail.

Claiming that works which were not done in 75 years in Punjab have been accomplished in first three months of his government in the state, Mann said the Opposition parties are not able to digest the works done by the “pro-people AAP government.”

Expressing his gratitude to the people of Punjab for giving a thumping majority to the AAP in the assembly elections, Mann said: “People of Sangrur showered love on me and made me the CM of Punjab.”

Mann, who held road shows in Dirba, Khanauri, Lehra, Chhajli, Jakhepal, Cheema, Longowal, and Sunam areas and appealed to the people to elect Gurmail Singh from the constituency, added: “I am the voice of people and each action is meant for the development of the state.”

The Sangrur Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Mann contested and won from Dhuri assembly segment in the 2022 Punjab Assembly polls.

The Congress has fielded former Dhuri MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy. Barnala MLA Kewal Dhillon is in the fray from the BJP, while Kamaldeep Kaur, sister of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a convict in former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh’s assassination case, is the SAD candidate for the by-poll on June 23.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s First Cabinet Expansion Today; 5 MLAs Likely to be Inducted

July 4, 2022 by www.news18.com Leave a Comment

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will expand his cabinet on Monday and five MLAs are expected to be inducted as ministers, news agency ANI reported. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at Punjab Raj Bhawan at 5 pm.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the inductees. It will be the first cabinet expansion of the Bhagwant  Mann-led government more than three months after the Aam Aadmi Party stormed to power in Punjab.

With the induction of five more ministers, the strength of the Mann-led cabinet will reach 15, including the chief minister. Among the names doing the rounds for ministerial positions were Aman Arora, two-time MLA from Sunam; Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLA from Amritsar South; Anmol Gagan Mann, legislator from Kharar; Fauja Singh, MLA from Guru Har Sahai; Chetan Singh Jouramajra, MLA from Samana seat; Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, two-time legislator from Jagraon; Baljinder Kaur, two-time MLA from Talwandi Sabo; and Budh Ram, two-time MLA from Budhlada.

The AAP was, however, tight-lipped on who all will be inducted in the cabinet. After the AAP formed the government following its resounding victory in the 2022 assembly polls, 10 MLAs were inducted as ministers in the Mann-led cabinet.

There are 18 berths in the cabinet, including the chief minister. At present, there are nine ministers in the Mann-led cabinet.

In May, Health Minister Vijay Singla was sacked from the state cabinet over graft charges. The Aam Aadmi Party had stormed to power in Punjab by bagging 92 seats out of a total of 117.

Mounting Flight Delays. Stranded Flyers. Airlines Struggle With Surging July 4 Demand.

July 3, 2022 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Air passengers across the United States faced extensive flight cancellations and delays this weekend, caused by a boom in travel demand coupled with widespread staffing shortages.

From Friday through Sunday, airlines that fly within, into, or out of the United States canceled more than 1,400 flights, according to FlightAware, a flight-tracking website, stranding and angering some passengers headed for long-awaited summer vacations. In addition, more than 14,000 flights were delayed this holiday weekend, according to the site’s data.

Some airlines seemed to be struggling to handle passenger volume that approached or in some cases even exceeded pre-pandemic levels. On Friday, the Transportation Safety Administration screened more passengers — 2.49 million people — than on any other day this year. That surpassed the 2.18 travelers screened July 1, 2019, before the pandemic.

The experience was frustrating for some passengers on U.S. carriers. On Saturday, 1,048 — or 29% — of Southwest Airlines flights were delayed, as were 28% of American Airlines flights, according to FlightAware. United Airlines and Delta Air Lines had similar problems, with 21% and 19% of their flights also delayed. On Sunday, the middle of the holiday weekend, travelers seemed to be getting a respite from the worst of the problems.

“Obviously, if it’s your flight that is delayed or canceled, it’s a disaster,” said Robert W. Mann Jr., a former airline executive who now runs the airline consultancy R.W. Mann & Co.

In a typical month, Mann noted, about 20% of flights are delayed or canceled. But this holiday weekend, he said, about 30% of flights were delayed or canceled — a 50% increase. “It’s a little bit worse than usual,” he said.

Adding to the pressure on air carriers this weekend was a glitch in the pilot-scheduling system at American Airlines that enabled pilots to drop thousands of flight assignments for July. The airline said Saturday that it did not anticipate any “operational impact” because of the glitch.

But the Allied Pilots Association, the union for American Airlines pilots, said that the airline had unilaterally reinstated the dropped trips without the agreement of the pilots. The union said it was pressing the airline to pay an “inconvenience premium” to pilots affected by the scheduling system problems.

In a nod to mounting passenger frustrations this summer, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian issued an apology last week.

“I know many of you may have experienced disruptions, sometimes significant, in your travels as we build our operation back from the depths of 2020 while accommodating a record level of demand,” Bastian wrote in a post on LinkedIn. He added: “Though the majority of our flights continue to operate on time, this level of disruption and uncertainty is unacceptable.”

In an email, Morgan Durrant, a spokesperson for Delta, said the airline was managing “the compounding factors” of bad weather and air traffic control delays, which affect the availability of flight crews. The airline was “working around the clock to make Delta’s operation as resilient as possible to minimize the ripple effect of disruptions,” Durrant said. “Even so, some operational challenges are expected this holiday weekend.”

As the holiday weekend progressed, however, the spate of flight problems began to abate. By Sunday evening, Delta had canceled just 1% of its flights, and just 15% of Southwest Airlines flights had been delayed, according to FlightAware.

Southwest said Sunday that it was delivering “a safe, reliable experience across our network today with currently, less than 10 total cancellations” for the day.

American Airlines and United Airlines did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
