Report: Hotel will house Olympic athletes with COVID-19

April 11, 2021 by www.thestar.com Leave a Comment

TOKYO – Athletes at the Tokyo Olympics who come down with minor symptoms of COVID-19 could be isolated in a hotel lined up by local organizers of the games.

The Japanese news agency Kyodo on Sunday said organizers are working to secure 300 rooms in a hotel near the Athletes’ Village. The agency cited unnamed officials with “knowledge of the plan.”

The rooms would be for athletes and staff who do not need to be hospitalized. The measures underline the risk of trying to hold the Olympics and Paralympics during a pandemic.

The Olympics are to open on July 23 and face strong opposition from up to 80% of Japanese polled. The Olympics and Paralympics will involve about 15,000 athletes from more than 200 nations and territories, and tens of thousands of other officials, judges, administrators, media and broadcasters.

Organizers and the International Olympic Committee have banned fans from abroad from attending. They have yet to announce the maximum capacity for venues, which is now complicated by rising cases in Osaka, Tokyo and elsewhere.

Tokyo will begin Monday to employ tougher measures to curb the rapid spread of the virus. It will allow Tokyo’s governor to impose shorter opening hours for bars and restaurants, mandate punishment and award compensation to those who comply.

Fewer than 1% of Japanese have been vaccinated, and because of Japan’s slow rollout that number will remain low when the Olympics open.

Japan has attributed fewer than 9,500 deaths to COVID-19, good by world standards but poor compared to many countries in Asia.

Hanoi mayor urges implementation of measures to support businesses, citizens

April 8, 2020 by hanoitimes.vn Leave a Comment

Efficiency of supporting measures for businesses and the people is important to Hanoi given its role as a political, social and economic center of Vietnam.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has urged local agencies to implement a number of priority measures until the end of the year to support businesses and the people to overcome negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Illustrative photo.

Referring to the motto “fighting the epidemic is like fighting the enemy”, Chung expected greater efficiency in public investment and supporting programs for enterprises and the people.  This is increasingly important for Hanoi, given its role as a political, social and economic hub of Vietnam.

According to Chung, local agencies are tasked to push for administrative reform and refrain from creating barriers for businesses and production.

Additionally, the mayor requested project owners to accelerate the construction progress of public investment projects.

Hanoi’s Department of Finance is responsible for prioritizing state capital for anti-virus measures by reducing unnecessary regular spending.

Notably, Chung asked for immediate waiving and reducing of rental fees of state-owned lands and properties for privately-run educational facilities, kindergartens, cultural, sporting and health centers that are forced to suspend operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Relevant agencies should submit to the municipal People’s Committee measures to support hotel and accommodation services that provide spaces for isolation orders; private medical centers that treat Covid-19 patients under request of local authorities, and unemployed people.

Chung requested local agencies to provide utmost support for foreign-invested and private projects, especially those related to public services and social issues.

The municipal Department of Industry and Trade is tasked with continuing to look for providers of input materials in a bid to ensure stability of domestic production and sustainable export activities; promoting global integration, bilateral and multilateral trade, as well as e-commerce.

All agencies are requested to report the results of these supporting measures back to the People’s Committee before May 31 and November 30 for review and adjustment.

Red Flags and Blind Spots in Dating a Narcissist

People are easily charmed by a narcissist, especially codependents. Narcissists can be beguiling and charismatic . In fact, one study showed that their likable veneer was only penetrable after seven meetings. I’ve had a number of clients who claimed that the courtship with their narcissistic spouse was wonderful, and that abuse only began after the wedding. However, with greater insight, they admitted that there were signs that they’d overlooked.

Blind Spots when Dating a Narcissist unconscious explanations of why you might not spot a narcissist. Here are some reasons why you might not recognize a narcissist:

  1. Sexual attraction . The greater the physical attraction and sexual intensity, the easier it is to ignore red flags. Individuals who can see auras maintain that sexual energy literally obfuscates mental and emotional energy—why lust is blind.
  2. Seduction. Narcissists are skilled manipulators. Some can be quite seductive, and not just sexually. They may be adept listeners and communicators or allure you with flattery, self-disclosure, and vulnerability—just the opposite of what you might expect from a narcissist.
  3. Idealization. Often narcissists are very accomplished, successful, good-looking, powerful, and/or multi-talented. It’s easy to idealize them and want to share in the benefits of their exceptionalism, especially if you feel inferior. People with low self-esteem , such as codependents, are more likely to idealize someone they admire. They may be drawn to typical narcissistic traits that they themselves lack, such as power and boldness. The downside is that idealization makes us ignore contrary information.
  4. Familiarity. If you had a narcissistic parent, being with a narcissist will feel familiar—like family. This attraction happens beneath consciousness and is often referred to as “chemistry.” With personal therapy , this attraction can change so that you easily spot someone who is abusive or self-centered. You might even be repelled instead of attracted to a narcissist.
  5. Codependency. If you have low self-esteem or are codependent , you may be unaware of your feelings, which can guide you. You may not feel entitled to respect and having your needs and wants met. Most codependents tend to accommodate and people-please other people―a perfect fit for a narcissist. This predisposition is stronger in early dating when you’re trying to make a good impression. Thus, you might overlook or rationalize feelings of discomfort and anxiety that signal trouble. If something does bother you, you won’t speak up about it and try to forget it.

Red Flags when Dating a Narcissist narcissistic personality disorder —but they do not bode well for a fulfilling relationship. One study found that when narcissists knew the symptoms of NPD, they readily admitted being a narcissist when asked. So you can ask, too, provided they know the traits. Need for admiration, lack of empathy , and grandiosity are key. Look for signs of arrogance and entitlement, too.

  • Self-centeredness. For narcissists, the world revolves around them. Other people are only two-dimensional, meaning that narcissists can’t empathize. They’re in their own reality and see you as an extension of themselves to satisfy their needs and wants. When you talk to your date, is he or she interested in getting to know you, or talk only about themselves? Amazingly, some people do, as if their listener doesn’t exist. This is a tell-tale sign that you will feel invisible in the relationship. If you felt invisible in your family, you might take this for granted. You could possibly feel validated by the attention you give as a good listener. Beware that this pattern will likely continue.

As mentioned above, some narcissists are skilled communicators and will appear fascinated by you, even mirror your interests to make you like them. They may be good at short-term intimacy and make you feel like a king or queen; but eventually, they don’t keep up that act. You’ll discover that their motive is to get what they want; for example, sex , but that they’re not interested in getting to know more about you, your family, problems, or successes.

Be aware of other signs of lack of consideration: walking far ahead of you, making you track them down for a return phone call, arriving late, disregarding your boundaries and needs, or interrupting conversations to take calls from other people.

  • Arrogance. Narcissists feel superior to other people, and can be rude or abusive when they don’t get what they want. This is revealed in their behavior and how they talk about themselves and others. Is your date a fault-finder who criticizes or blames others, the opposite sex, or an ex? One day, he or she may be bashing you. When you go out, notice how he or she treats waitresses, car hops, and vendors. Does he or she show other people respect, or act superior to other certain groups, such as minorities, immigrants, or people of less means or education ?

Narcissists like to be associated with high-status people and institutions. They think they’re the best and want to surround themselves with the best. This is due to insecurity. Does your date think only his or her school is the best, and require the best car, the best table at the best restaurant, the finest wines, and wear expensive labels, or name drop public figures they know? This may impress you, but will later depress you when you feel ignored or like a prop in their life.

  • Entitlement. This trait is a giveaway. It reveals how narcissists think that they’re the center of the universe. They not only believe they’re special and superior to others, but also that they deserve special treatment and that rules don’t apply to them. Does your date refuse to turn off his or her cell phone at the movies, expect others to do favors, cut in line, steal things like tableware, airline blankets, or hotel ashtrays, or insist on special treatment from the parking attendant, restaurant maitre d’, or server? If you’re a woman, does he expect you to drive to his neighborhood? A relationship with this person will be painfully one-sided, not a two-way street. Narcissists are only interested in getting what they want and making the relationship work for them. If they are rude to others, they may one day abuse you.
  • Bragging and need for admiration. Although narcissists want to believe they’re superior, they’re actually insecure. Hence, they need constant validation, appreciation, and recognition. They seek this by bragging about themselves and their accomplishments. They may even lie or exaggerate. People who brag are trying to convince themselves and you of their greatness.
  • Control and manipulation. Narcissists put their needs first. They may manipulate you with flattery, belittling, or threats. Their lack of empathy may show when planning a date. Time and place might be a difficult negotiation or on their terms, especially if they sense that you’re interested in them. Initially, they may want to please you to win you over, but once they’ve made their “catch,” they want to please themselves. It’s the chase, not the catch that motivates them. Once they’re victorious, they can lose interest, and move on to the next conquest before it gets too emotionally intimate. If not, they’ll be emotionally unavailable and keep you at a distance, because they’re afraid if you get too close, you won’t like what you see.

Some Tips infidelity , criminality, addiction , or abuse. Equally important, notice if you feel anxious or uncomfortable, pressured, controlled, ignored, or belittled.

Learn about narcissistic relationships, why narcissists are codependent, and why they’re drawn to codependents and vice versa. In recovering from codependency, you’ll build self-esteem, your estimation of your worth will rise, and you’ll expect to be considered, listened to, and treated well. You’ll convey an expectation of respect by maintaining healthy boundaries, by being assertive about your opinions, feelings, needs, and wants.

Prince Philip Funeral Will See Royals Follow Numerous Peculiar Rules

April 9, 2021 by www.newsweek.com Leave a Comment

As the U.K. mourns the death of Prince Philip —Queen Elizabeth II’s husband—the royal family and other public figures are expected to follow certain strict protocols in the days leading up to his funeral, not least the Queen herself. She is expected to pause her state affairs as she enters an official period of mourning that will last eight days.

Here we look at some other rules relating to royal deaths.

Always carry a black outfit

The royal family has been prepared for the latest death for their entire lives, at least in terms of their attire. All royal family members are expected to carry a black mourning outfit with them whenever they travel overseas in case a family member dies while they are away.

In the event that a death occurs while they’re abroad, royal family members must return wearing their black outfit as they must be seen to be mourning on arrival.

The black outfit rule was introduced after Elizabeth was without any black mourning clothes when her father, King George VI, died on February 6, 1952 as she was visiting Kenya when she heard the news. She and Philip were en route to Australia by ship at the time but had made a stop at the Treetops Hotel in the coastal Kenyan city of Mombasa.

Upon hearing of the death of her father, Elizabeth headed to Entebbe in Uganda where she would get a plane back to the U.K. A black outfit was sent from the ship to Entebbe so that she would be dressed appropriately upon landing in the U.K.

Newsreaders are also traditionally expected to wear black as a mark of respect when announcing the death of a royal family member.

Back in 2002, BBC came under fire as presenter Peter Sissons wore a burgundy tie and grey suit to deliver the news of the Queen Mother’s death.

In a statement at the time, the BBC said: “The guidance to presenters was that they should wear sombre clothes for the announcement of the Queen Mother’s death and black ties for the funeral.”

Wear a hat and suit

At the funeral, royal family women will be expected to follow the traditional protocol of wearing a hat or a fascinator, while men will be suited up.

…and a long skirt

Royal family women should also be wearing a black dress or skirt falling just on the knee or below it, as reportedly preferred by Elizabeth.

…and tights

Royal family women are also required to wear tights, which is reportedly “the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the Queen requires,” according to royal expert Victoria Arbiter.

Lower flags

Other protocols include the lowering of flags. They must be flown at half-mast for the funerals of royal family members, “subject to special commands from Her Majesty in each case,” according to the National Association of Civic Officers in the U.K.

According to a document from the Hertford Town Council Constitution of Hertfordshire, England outlining the “protocol to mark the death of a senior member of the royal family,” upon the formal announcement of death, “flags are flown at half-mast until 08.00 on the morning following the state funeral. If the death or period of mourning falls on St George’s Day, the English flag should be replaced by the Union flag.”

Hold the funeral eight days following death

According to a document from the Hertford Town Council Constitution, funerals of senior royal members take place eight days after the day of the death, while “for the Sovereign, the funeral will take place 10 days after the day of death.”

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, funerals are limited to 30 people and no public viewing of Philip’s body will be held. The funeral will likely be attended by family members, friends and heads of state from Commonwealth countries.

Details around the funeral have not been released by the royal family. Officially announcing Philip’s death, the royal family tweeted on Friday: “Further announcements will be made in due course.”

State vs. ceremonial funerals

According to a 2013 House of Commons document distributed to members of U.K. parliament, there are two types of royal funerals—state and ceremonial.

“A state funeral is defined by the Royal Encyclopedia as ‘generally limited to Sovereigns, but may, by order of the reigning monarch and by a vote of Parliament providing the fund, be extended to exceptionally distinguished persons.'”

A ceremonial funeral is held “for those members of the Royal Family who hold high military rank, for the consort of the Sovereign and heir to the throne,” according to the document. The Queen Mother and Princess Diana were both given a ceremonial funeral.

Both types of funerals will entail “a military procession carrying the coffin to Westminster Hall, a period of lying in state, and a service at Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s Cathedral.

“A state funeral is commonly held to differ from a ceremonial funeral in two respects: a parliamentary motion authorises it, and the gun carriage bearing the coffin to the lying in state has, since the funeral of Queen Victoria, been drawn by Royal Navy sailors rather than by horses.

“The process for deciding when a state funeral should be held for a person other than the Sovereign is relatively unclear, not least since it happens so rarely and at long historical intervals. There is no official process set out in public,” the document says.
