A left-wing group published its plans for protests outside of the six conservative Supreme Court justices’ homes, calling them “extremist.”

The group, going by “Ruth Sent Us,” published what it claims are the addresses of Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and John Roberts, seemingly in response to the Monday SCOTUS draft opinion leak that signaled the majority of the court may vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“ANNOUNCING: Walk-by Wednesday, May 11, 2022! At the homes of the six extremist justices, three in Virginia and three in Maryland. If you’d like to join or lead a peaceful protest, let us know,” the website of “Ruth Sent Us” states.

“Our 6-3 extremist Supreme Court routinely issues rulings that hurt women, racial minorities, LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights. We must rise up to force accountability using a diversity of tactics,” it adds.

A leak of this nature has never happened before. It is a threat to the free flow of information and ideas within the Supreme Court. It is also a threat to the trust that justices share with their colleagues and the clerks who allow the court’s oppressive workload to churn forward.

It also subjects the court to public and partisan pressures in an already charged environment. Elected officials are threatening court packing and much else while shamelessly accusing justices with whom they disagree of lying, selling out and worse.

In 2020 Sen. Chuck Schumer hurled threats at specific justices while speaking to an angry crowd outside the building. This leak and those who attempt to pressure the court are placing the court, the justices and our very legal system at risk.

Abortion activists and protesters surrounded and injured Los Angeles Police Department officers Tuesday night.

The protesters started marching for reproductive rights in downtown LA, leading to a citywide tactical alert and series of skirmish lines to disperse people, CBS News reported. As police attempted to break up the protests, people started throwing rocks and bottles at officers, according to Fox News. Two officers suffered minor injuries, and one may have been hit with his own baton, CBS noted.

“I just know that he was attacked by part of the crowd of instigators,” LAPD Capt. Steven Ruiz said, CBS continued. “And in doing so, he was possibly struck … I can’t confirm that it was his baton, but he was struck in the head. But he’s doing OK.”

Videos posted online shows LAPD officers yelling “back up” as protesters surround them.

No one was arrested at the protest, despite crowds reportedly surrounding and smashing the window of a Homeland Security vehicle, CBS continued. LAPD called off the tactical alert as the crowds broke up, but maintained a heavy presence throughout the downtown neighborhood throughout the evening.

A march for reproductive rights took an unruly turn Tuesday evening near Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles, which led to a massive response by the LAPD.

Police issued a citywide tactical alert and setup skirmish lines to disperse people. Two LAPD officers suffered minor injuries, the department confirmed Wednesday. One of those officers may have been struck with his own baton. […]

Cellphone video captured one moment where crowds appeared to surround a Homeland Security vehicle after they said it drove near protestors in an aggressive manner. Crowds reportedly broke out the window of the vehicle.

Chief Michel Moore tweeted that there were reports of people in the crowd throwing rocks and bottles.

As protestors marched down Hill Street, witnesses told CBSLA that some people broke out the front window of a Planet Fitness gym. There was also graffiti written on the L.A. City Hall building.

An abortion-rights advocate group had hosted an earlier, peaceful rally and march without incident. Most of the protest was peaceful, police stressed to CBSLA. It was just a small splinter group which clashed with officers following that rally.

Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Emily’s List pledged to give $150 million to pro-abortion candidates in the coming election cycle Monday. Democrats who received past contributions from these groups called for packing the Supreme Court and codifying the Roe precedent into federal law after Politico published the leaked draft opinion Monday evening.

The $150 million from pro-abortion groups will support candidates in races across the country, from state legislatures to Congress, according to a press release announcing the pledge. The funds will be used for PAC contributions to candidates, voter outreach, research, paid advertising, communications guidance to promote abortion and in-person actions at state capitals.

President Joe Biden told reporters during Wednesday remarks that supporters and politicians associated with former President Donald Trump are the “most extreme political organization” in the nation’s recent history.

A reporter asked the president about the Supreme Court draft majority opinion that could reportedly overturn Roe v. Wade. Biden argued the opposers of abortion, mainly Republicans, are stripping Americans of the precedented, inherent right to privacy, mentioning the 1965 decision Griswold v. Connecticut.

“This reminds me of the debate with Robert Bork. Bork believed the only reason you had any inherent rights is because the government gave them to you,” he said. “If you go back and look at the opening comments when I was questioning him as chairman, I said, ‘I believe I have the rights that I have not because the government gave them to me, which you believe, but because I’m just a child of God, I exist.’”

President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, told a Senate committee Wednesday that children should decide for themselves if they want a sex change operation.

Becerra was pressed by Republican Indiana Sen. Mike Braun on the Biden administration’s endorsement of “gender-affirming” care for gender-questioning minors, which includes the prescription of puberty blockers, hormone therapy and sex changes surgeries. Braun asked Becerra in what case would it be appropriate to perform irreversible sex change surgery on kids.

“Those decisions are made by that individual, in consultation with a physician, and caregivers, and no decision would be made without having consulted appropriately,” Becerra answered.

ATLANTA — The state’s high school sports governing body voted Wednesday morning that all athletes who want to play sports must participate based on the sex on their birth certificate.

The Georgia High School Association, which represents 463 high schools, voted unanimously to go back to their 2017 bylaws, which said all high school athletes must compete based on the gender that is on the athlete’s birth certificate.

“We wanted to keep a level playing field,” GHSA executive director Dr. Robin Hines said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bought access to location data harvested from tens of millions of phones in the United States to perform analysis of compliance with curfews, track patterns of people visiting K-12 schools, and specifically monitor the effectiveness of policy in the Navajo Nation, according to CDC documents obtained by Motherboard. The documents also show that although the CDC used COVID-19 as a reason to buy access to the data more quickly, it intended to use it for more-general CDC purposes.

Location data is information on a device’s location sourced from the phone, which can then show where a person lives, works, and where they went. The sort of data the CDC bought was aggregated—meaning it was designed to follow trends that emerge from the movements of groups of people—but researchers have repeatedly raised concerns with how location data can be deanonymized and used to track specific people.

Worker productivity fell to start 2022 at its fastest pace in nearly 75 years while labor costs soared as the U.S. struggled with surging Covid cases, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.

Nonfarm productivity, a measure of output against hours worked, declined 7.5% from January through March, the biggest fall since the third quarter of 1947.

At the same time, unit labor costs soared 11.6%, bringing the increase over the past four quarters to 7.2%, the biggest gain since the third quarter of 1982. The metric calculates how much employers pay workers in salary and benefits per unit of output.

Sony reportedly refused demands at the end of last year from Chinese film regulators to cut scenes with the Statue of Liberty out of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

The Chinese Communist Party’s content regulations are extremely strict. For films to be allowed into China, they must first be approved by China’s Propaganda Department. According to Puck, Chinese regulators reviewed the latest Spider-Man movie and returned with a single requirement: cut the Statue of Liberty from the end of the film.

This was a huge, virtually impossible request given the prominence the landmark plays in the film’s final battle between all three Spideys and assorted super villains. Sony refused.

China’s film regulators altered their request: Minimize the statue, darken the lighting to make her less prominent, and cut those too “patriotic” shots of Holland standing atop the Statue of Liberty’s crown.

Sony ultimately rejected this request. As a result, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was not released in China, and Sony lost out on a projected $170 million-$340 million, according to CNBC. At the Chinese box office, previous Tom Holland Spider-Man movies grossed $116 million and $200 million.
