Gareth Bale Takes 27.5 Million Pounds Pay Cut to Join Los Angeles

June 28, 2022 by www.news18.com Leave a Comment

Gareth Bale has reportedly taken a massive pay cut to join Los Angeles FC. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker who played just seven matches in the recently concluded season bagged a £28 million deal while representing Real Madrid. It is being reported that Bale has agreed to slash his wages by £27.5 million to complete his move to the Los Angeles FC.

According to an article published by The Athletic, Bale agreed to one-year deal which will pay him no more than £1.3 million. The deal also includes a window of 18 months that would increase his earnings and make him a designated player if triggered next season.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett opened up on the Welsh striker’s move to the Los Angeles. Barnett revealed that Bale had “four or five serious offers” for him. “It could have been more but we narrowed the field for him — he wasn’t going to Italy or Spain, for example,” Barnett told The Athletic.

Bale is also expected to line up with European champion and former Juventus skipper Giorgio Chiellini at Los Angeles.

Los Angeles were not the only club to be in contention to sign Bale. The Champions League-winning forward was earlier heavily linked with his hometown club Cardiff City. Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, while talking to talkSPORT, claimed that they were “very keen” to sign Bale.

“We were very, very keen and of course it would have been a big coup for us and would have been great for Gareth Bale to play for his home town. Everybody would be happy if Gareth Bale returned home and played in Cardiff, but unfortunately the offer was too attractive to turn down,” he said.

Bale had joined Real Madrid back in 2013 from Tottenham Hotspur. In his first stint with the Los Blancos, Bale played 251 matches and scored 106 goals. In 2020, the 32-year-old secured a loan move to his former club Tottenham Hotspur. During the loan spell, Bale played 34 matches and found the back of the net 16 times.

He came back to Real Madrid in 2021 but his second stint did not turn out to be a pretty fruitful one as he could only score one goal in seven matches.

Carlos Vela re-signs with Los Angeles FC through 2023

June 28, 2022 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Although Carlos Vela expects Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini to make a good team even better when they join him at Los Angeles FC, he also wants the European superstars to know they’ve still got plenty of work to do.

Vela issued greetings and advice to his new teammates after he re-signed with Los Angeles FC on Tuesday, extending his tenure with the Major League Soccer leaders through the 2023 season.

The Mexican striker became the first player in LAFC’s history in August 2017 when the expansion club signed him away from La Liga’s Real Sociedad nearly seven months before its first match. Vela made the transition from Europe to MLS superbly by scoring 73 goals in 118 total appearances for the franchise, including a league-record 34 goals in 31 games while earning the league MVP award in 2019.

“When I joined this club from the first day, my first goal was the most important — to win trophies for this club,” Vela said. “I want to keep going and show everybody how good we are.”

LAFC already sits atop the overall league standings at 10-3-3, and the club is about to get major reinforcements with the imminent arrivals of Welsh forward Bale and Italian defender Chiellini, who should both be eligible to play next week.

Vela is eager to welcome Bale to MLS after nine seasons spent mostly at Real Madrid — but he also expects hard work out of Bale, whose injury setbacks and overall commitment to Madrid were widely questioned in the Spanish media in recent years.

“As you know, this league is really physical,” Vela said. “If he’s in good shape and he comes in with a good mentality, a good attitude, he will be great. He’s an important player. He will have to come to work, because it’s not that easy like people think. If he comes in good shape with a good attitude, a good mentality, he will be so important for us. He will help us to win trophies.”

The 33-year-old Vela was limited by significant injuries in both 2020 and 2021, but he has returned as LAFC’s leading scorer this season with six goals and three assists. His contract was set to expire at the end of June, but Vela and LAFC completed most of the key negotiations on this new deal two months ago, general manager John Thorrington acknowledged.

“For me, Carlos has been the best player in this league for a good part of his time here, and we are eager to see what else he brings to this team and the city,” Thorrington said. “We believe Carlos will help us deliver on our ambition to win championships here in LA.”

Vela is one of LAFC’s two designated players, who are allowed to be paid above the MLS salary cap. LAFC still has a third designated player slot open to make another addition alongside Bale and Chiellini, who were signed without using a designated player slot.

“It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve played in some place,” Vela said. “You have to put in the effort, and you have to do what is best for the team. Now we have a lot of talent coming in, so we just have to figure out what’s best for the team, put it in and go for it. It’s the only way we’re going to win a trophy.”

Vela spent seven seasons at Real Sociedad before moving back to North America. He began his European career by signing with Arsenal as a teenager in 2005.

WATCH: Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti Booed At Dodgers Home Opener | The Daily Wire

April 10, 2021 by www.dailywire.com Leave a Comment

It was the first time in 18 months that a live audience could attend a major league baseball game at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. As a reduced-capacity crowd of more than 15,000 people gathered at Friday afternoon’s home opener to celebrate the franchise’s World Series championship from last season, many in attendance took the opportunity to express their displeasure for Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti.

The Los Angeles Times reported , “For more than a year, we’ve been warned that singing, chanting and yelling is best avoided, for fear of exhaling virus-carrying droplets. On Friday, thousands of fans at Dodger Stadium exhaled loudly, booing Garcetti as if he were Chase Utley in New York.”

According to FOX News, “Garcetti was on hand for the ceremony commemorating the Dodgers’ victory in the World Series last fall.” The outlet reported, “When the mayor was introduced as the team prepared to raise its championship banner at Dodger Stadium, fans responded with jeers.”

FOX 11 investigative reporter Bill Melugin amplified video of the crowd’s reaction on social media, tweeting, “Garcetti got booed bigtime.”

Yikes…LA Mayor Eric Garcetti got booed bigtime by the limited capacity crowd at the Dodgers game. https://t.co/lifQIB1JvC

— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) April 9, 2021

Garcetti was introduced over the public address system just before the championship banner was raised, along with L.A. City Councilman Gil Cedillo, Dodgers Spanish language broadcaster Jaime Jarrin, as well as Dodgers co-owners Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who led the L.A. Lakers to five championships, and Billie Jean King, a former tennis star.

The Wrap noted , “Garcetti was wearing a Dodger-themed face mask when his name was announced, so his reaction to the booing wasn’t totally discernible, but he carried on waving and clapping like any seasoned politician would.”

People’s City Council – L.A., an activist alliance convened by Black Lives Matter, also shared video of the moment, posting, “Los Angeles f*cking hates you, Eric.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Hearing Garcetti booed today makes me wonder if we’re not all miserable together here.”

In addition to raising the banner, the Dodgers received their World Series rings during the pregame festivities, recognizing the team’s first title in more than three decades. The Times reported that the franchise also paid tribute to Tommy Lasorda, the legendary Dodgers manager who died of a heart attack on January 7.

L.A. went on to defeat the Washington Nationals 1-0 on Friday, improving to 6-2 and remaining at the top of the National League West standings.

More from FOX News:

Garcetti and embattled Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom have faced widespread scrutiny over their handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Critics have argued that some of the strict guidelines enacted during the pandemic were ineffective and hurt local businesses.

Garcetti isn’t the only politician who has contended with rowdy fans in recent days. Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot were booed while taking the field at the Chicago White Sox home opener on Thursday night.

According to THR, Will will play the CEO of a toy company that ‘may or not be’ Mattel.

According to Vulture , the film is ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough.’

Another synopsis on IMDB of the movie reads: ‘A doll living in “Barbieland” is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A Live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.’

Oscar winner Ryan Gosling is starring opposite Margot as he takes on the role of Barbie’s boyfriend Ken.

Will is said to be playing the CEO of the toy company that may or may not be Mattel.

Little Women and Ladybird filmmaker Greta Gerwig is directing the project, and wrote the script for the film with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach.

Other members of the cast include Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, America Ferrara, Rhea Perlman, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp, Ritu Arya, Sharon Rooney, Connor Swindells, Scott Evans and Jamie Demetriou.

Fans think Emma will be playing the role of Skipper, the younger sister of Barbie, thanks to her resemblance to Margot.

Also linked to the film are Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, actress Saoirse Ronan and pop sensation Dua Lipa – but these have not yet been confirmed.

It has been rumored that there will be different versions of Barbie and Ken, with one Barbie said to be portrayed by Issa Rae and the other might be Hari Nef.

Marvel’s Simu Liu and new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa are also said be playing other Kens.

New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan recently tweeted: ‘I am hearing incredible BARBIE goss at Cannes. For one, I’m hearing that Ryan Gosling is not the only Ken in the BARBIE film. Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa also play Ken.

‘And, by the same token, Margot Robbie is not the film’s only Barbie. Issa Rae and Hari Nef play different Barbies…’

Meanwhile, all the way back in 2016, it had originally been announced that Amy Schumer would be taking on the role – but she bowed out just four months later.

‘Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,’ she said at the time. ‘The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.’

However, later Amy admitted that it was less about scheduling and more about creative differences. ‘They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter .

‘The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, ‘You’ve got the wrong gal,'” she added.

In celebration of the Mattel doll’s 60th anniversary, Barbie will be released in cinemas on July 21, 2023.

A trendy Los Angeles County community has voted to reduce law enforcement funding despite escalating crime and public backlash.

The budget for the next two fiscal years will leave West Hollywood with up to five fewer Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol, WeHoville reported.

The budget was approved by a narrow 3-2 vote with Mayor Lauren Meister dissenting as well as Councilman John Erickson.

“I’m not going to vote for the budget if we cut the sheriff’s (funds),” Meister said, according to the news outlet. “First of all, nobody has the gun problem that we have in this country. You can’t expect us to have a public safety team where most of the people aren’t armed in order to defend our citizens.”

Over the past few months, residents and business owners have voiced opposition to cutting the police budget amid a crime wave across the county.

Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne amended the budgets to re-allocate funds for sheriff’s deputies to the Block by Block program, which staffs unarmed security ambassadors who provide the city with supplemental law enforcement services.

“What we know now is our residents want foot patrols. We need to be fiscally responsible And we have all talked for two years,” she said. “Reimagining policing means reallocating funding. You can’t just say it without actually doing it. Period.”

Erickson said he worries about the trajectory of the plan that was approved and the timeline with which it can be implemented.

“Community safety is our number one concern,” he told Fox News. “When I’ve heard from countless residents about how they want to feel safer, that involves comprehensive planning and something that is not just drawn out over a decision.”

Deputies will be removed in the coming months. Fox News has reached out to the council and the sheriff’s department. Crime in West Hollywood has been an ongoing concern for many. In March, media reports said crime skyrocketed 137%.

That included murder, rape, burglary, aggravated assault , arson, and human trafficking.
