July 3, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

The Weatherfield pensioner recently took a nasty tumble and was rushed to hospital.

Audrey gets discharged in upcoming scenes and Gail Platt’s perturbed when she insists on going straight to the Rovers to celebrate.

When Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) reveals she’s planning on holidaying at the Italian lakes, Gail suggests she picks Stephen Reid’s brain.

Stephen talks to a smitten Elaine about Italy and she hangs on his every word.

Later in the week, Audrey calls at No.8 with Stephen in tow and tells Gail and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that she’s updating her will and she’s calling a family meeting.

David and Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) fuss over Audrey, each hoping for a decent slice of her estate.

Audrey summons Gail, Stephen, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), David and Sarah to the bistro where she announces that she intends to leave all her money to WARTS, the Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders, in memory of Alfie.

However, she’s still furious with her family and particularly at David for trying to get power of attorney over her money.

In the Rovers, she tells the stunned family that she loves them and will leave them her money but to be held in trust by Stephen.

When Stephen reveals that he’s moving in with Audrey at Grasmere Drive to look after her and they’ll be seeing much more of him, David’s horrified.

Elsewhere on the Cobbles, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) tells Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) she thinks Phill’s mum Mimi (Margot Leicester) is part of a plan to sabotage the wedding.

When Hope Stape’s bridesmaid dress gets covered in wine and Mimi blames Cerberus, Evelyn sees red and not just wine.

As a slanging match ensues Phill’s annoyed with Fiz for not giving Mimi the benefit of the doubt over Evelyn.

On the street, they are both stunned when a beautiful woman steps out of a car and introduces herself to Fiz as Camilla, Phill’s ex-wife. Phill is baffled as to why she has turned up but tells Fiz he can’t wait to marry her and Camilla is no threat.

Meanwhile, Tyrone does have feelings for his ex and spurred in by Kevin he decides he needs to tell Fiz how he feels before it is too late.

Coronation Street’s Kimberly Hart-Simpson asked for ‘sex prices’ by strangers

July 3, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

She is known for her incredible role as Nicky Wheatly on the popular soap opera Coronation Street .

But it appears as though Kimberly Hart-Simpson acting is slightly too convincing for her loyal legion of followers who regularly tune in to watch her on the silver screen each week.

The soap star – who has been a staple on the ITV show since 2020 – confessed how she regularly has strangers asking her for ‘sex prices’ in the street.

During an interview with The Sun, the blonde bombshell, 35, has explained how her role on the cobbles has affected her life, and even stunted her search for love online.

As she opened up about her role over the years, the Welsh actress confessed some of the downsides to her current storyline in the Manchester-based soap.

She admitted: “People have definitely mixed up my character with me. Men think it’s really funny to approach me and say, ‘How much?’

“I am on dating apps and it comes up on there, too. I just unmatch them straight away.”

However, Kimberly made to sure to inform viewers of the many pros to her raw take on the life as an escort on the show.

She added: “But it am thrilled that charities and sex workers have contacted me to say they like the way Nicky is portrayed because she is so realistic and writers haven’t given her a drug or drink problem.

“She is just a feisty mum, doing it for her daughter – for survival. I am so proud to play her.

“I know plenty of people who work in the sex industry and on things like OnlyFans – it isn’t an unknown world to me and they are just normal people trying to get by. Fair play to them.”

It comes after the starlet opened up about her struggles with labels as she came to terms with her sexual identity last year.

In her latest column for Metro.co.uk she confessed how she has battled with putting a name to her sexual identity.

She told the outlet: “I find labelling a challenging concept, though I respect and understand why they are needed. Labels generate a conversation and explanation.

“It helps us learn all about people’s sexualities on the wide spectrum, but it also makes me personally feel pressured to state who I am today, but what happens it I and not that tomorrow?”

Coronation Street’s behind-the-scenes secrets exposed – fake booze to prosthetic babies

July 2, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

The beloved ITV soap is known for its steamy love scenes and nail-biting storylines to life in the heart of the fictional town of Weatherfield.

And even 62 years later, Coronation Street continues to grip viewers up and down the country through its surprising twists and turns on the famous cobbles.

As loyal fans of the show tune in for their daily dose of life in the heart of Manchester, viewers have grown to love watching their favourite characters drink a pint at the Rovers Return or treat themselves to a greasy fry up from Roy’s Rolls.

But what is it like working on the legendary set every day away from the high-tech cameras and the flashy editing booth?

READ MORE:

Daily Star have taken a sneak peek behind the scenes of the TV set which includes prosthetic babies, fake booze and subtle upgrades.

Rover’s transformation

Arguable, one of the most iconic buildings on the Coronation Street set is the legendary pub, the Rovers Return.

But over the years the hearty pub has been through a slew of changes, many of which were missed by fans watching on the silver screen.

After 20 landlords working at the Rover’s Return, the business was forced to expand from the original build back in 1960.

Looking at the pub as it stands today, eagle-eyed fans will notice that an extra window has been added to the building in order to accommodate for the added guests.

During a tour of the set, one spokesperson explained how the classic pub has changed over the years.

They explained: “Back in 1960 there only used to be one window, but as the set grew so did the rovers and they had to make it proportionate to the correct size.

“Especially now they have lodgers in there such as Ronnie, they need to make it look like they can actually fit people in there so that’s why they have two windows up there.”

They even went on to explain how the soap was flooded with letters of complaint back in 1982 due to an unforeseen error in the layout of the pub.

She added: “But then back in 1982 they had a lot of letters of complaint saying that anyone who went to the toilets inside the Rovers was actually going to the toilet inside Ken Barlow’s front room which logistically would be right without the alleyway.

“You’ll see there’s a green alleyway there – that was implemented due to all the complaints that happened.”

Fake booze

Another popular question loyal fans have when watching the 30-minute soap is whether or not the alcohol served up in the pub is real or not, and it appears that often the show will use real products when possible.

The inside source confessed: “Back in 1960 [the alcohol] actually used to be real but then actors used to muddle up their lines on purpose so that they could have a cheeky swig of wine.

“But because of that they had to change, so it’s now shandy diluted with lemonade and when we see Carla Conner sipping her red wine, she’s actually getting one of her five-a-day in because it’s just grape juice.”

And that’s not the only cheat producers use on set, after they revealed that the infamous hotpot all the characters are seen eating is actually just food taken from the canteen topped with mashed potatoes.

The insider revealed: “The hotpot is not real – all they do is get stuff from the staff canteen put it inside a bowl, put potato on top unless they’re eating it.

“If [the actors] are eating it they do make a full-on hotpot for them, and the crisps and nuts are actually crisps and nuts.”

Prosthetic babies

Corrie fans may remember being introduced to Sinead Tinker and Daniel Osbourne’s son during dramatic scenes when the baby boy was born prematurely.

Beloved actor Rob Mallard has since opened up about what it was like using a prosthetic doll during the heart-wrenching scenes and exposed one of their key secrets used behind-the-scenes.

Speaking to What’s On TV at the time, he revealed: “There’s a hand pump at the back. We’d be stood crouching over the incubator, looking lovingly down at this jelly baby, and there’d be a district nurse crouching down by my knees, slowly pumping this thing so its stomach rises.

For more of the latest showbiz and TV news from the Daily Star, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here .

“When it comes to acting, as long as you trick yourself into believing it’s real, you don’t have to think about it.”

He added: “But one of the downsides to being busy is that you get burnout, and your brain will go, ‘This isn’t real; I don’t need to worry about this’.

“The difficult thing with an inanimate object is that with another actor you have eyes t look into. Whereas with this, you don’t get anything back.”

Outside their wedding venue, Phill and Fiz are stunned when a beautiful woman steps out of her car to introduce herself.

The woman is none other than Camilla (played by Emmerdale star Louise Marwood ), Phill’s former wife.

Phill is baffled and wonders why Camilla has decided to turn up in the first place.

He quickly reassures Fiz, asserting he can’t wait to marry her and that his love is true – Camilla won’t be a threat to their upcoming nuptials.

However, another ex-flame could have a bombshell in store on their wedding day.

2. Fiz makes a shocking confession

With the wedding day off to a rocky start, Fiz is determined to make sure nothing will ruin the ceremony.

Surprisingly, this involves coming clean about her feelings to her former partner Tyrone Dobbs ( Alan Halsall ).

But could it have the reverse effect?

Fiz calls at the garage and tells Tyrone that she still loves him but Jennie McAlpine herself made it clear – there’s one thing holding her back from rekindling their romance.

The character makes it clear that she can no longer trust Tyrone after their shared past, particularly because of his affair with former resident Alina Pop.

Freed from her own feelings, Fiz assures she feels secure in her choice to marry Phill.

Yet Tyrone is still rattled by her bombshell confession and resolves to telling her his love remains before it’s too late.

In later scenes, Tyrone presents Fiz with a pair of Vera’s vintage earrings before the wedding is about to start.

The wedding begins as he takes a seat next to Evelyn.

Will he try to get the woman he loves back or forever hold his peace?

3. Stephen takes control of Audrey’s money

Meanwhile, there’s a family feud brewing for the Platts after Audrey Roberts’ ( Sue Nicholls ) accident.

With the return of her son Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce), the hairdresser has another person to rely on – but the rest of her family won’t be please when he takes control of all her financial assets .

This week, Audrey is discharged from the hospital but clearly has not learned her lesson as she insists on going to the Rovers to celebrate her return.

Knowing all about her mother’s drinking problem, Gail ( Helen Worth ) is worried, fearing she may put her life in danger again.

But she gets another kind of shock when Audrey calls for a family meeting at No.8 with Stephen in tow.

Audrey tells Gail and her grandson David ( Jack P. Shepherd ) that her recent brush with death encouraged her to update her will.

The family meet in the Bistro in later scenes and, in a bid to get their hands on a decent slice of her fortune, David and sister Sarah ( Tina O’Brien ) fuss over Audrey.

The latter makes a big announcement and reveals she intends to leave her money to WARTS, the Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders, in memory of her late husband Alf Roberts.

This doesn’t sit well with members of her family, particularly David who tries to get power of attorney over her money.

The Platt family are gathered in the Rovers and Audrey is furious.

She promises that she loves them and will be leaving her money with them.

However, her fortune will be held in trust by Stephen.

David is horrified but will be seeing more of his uncle as Stephen will be moving into Grasmere Drive with Audrey to look after her.

4. Steve is conned

After his daughter Amy was accidentally spiked , Steve McDonald ( Simon Gregson ) took a step back from the drama in the cobbles.

But Amy has some bad news for him when she informs her father of a leaky ceiling at No.1.

Fuming, Steve blames Jacob’s cowboy burglar friend for making a botched job of the roof repairs.

Later on, Ed Bailey ( Trevor Michael Georges ) collars Steve and reveals that his own roof at No.3 Coronation Street is also leaking.

Tracy ( Kate Ford ) urges Steve to hire a professional to fix the roof rather than do it all alone.

Steve is in luck when he drops off a passenger named Viv as she tells him her husband is a roofer.

Viv offers to send him round No.1 to price up the job.

The roofer, Arnie, shows up and, after surveying the roof, asserts that he can start straight away – but it’ll cost Steve £3k and the payment has to be made up front.

Steve is an optimist and decides to hand over the money – while Tracy is concerned.

He soon realises his mistake when Arnie the roofer doesn’t turn up at No.1 again.

Tracy rails at him for paying the man but matters go from bad to worse when John the scaffolder pulls up outside No.1.

Much like Arnie, he also asks for an up front payment, leaving Steve confused.

Steve desperately tries to explain that he’s already paid and that he was told the scaffolding was included in the price.

John corrects him and tells Steve this was never the case and the reality dawns on the cabbie.

5. Stu gets drunk at work

Elsewhere, Stu Carpenter ( Bill Fellows ) has found stability after living in the rough, most notably due to his job at Speed Daal.

But the chef will be jeopardising everything this week.

Coming up, a downbeat Stu shows Yasmeen a parcel and explains to her that it has been returned to him by the new owners of his daughter’s house.

The pain is too much for Stu, as shown in later scenes when Yasmeen leaves him and her grandson Zeedan ( Qasim Akhtar ) in charge of Speed Daal for the day.

Zeedan heads to the kitchen while Stu surreptitiously takes a swig from his flask.

Later on, Zeedan is shocked to find a drunk Stu playing drinking games with a table full of rowdy men.

Could viewers finally find out more about his backstory?

6. Toyah is at odds with Saira

The target of a murder probe following Imran Habeeb’s death , Toyah Battersby ( Georgia Taylor ) makes a risky decision to get a hold of his ashes.

This is due to the late solicitor’s mother Saira ( Kim Vithana ) withholding them as she has lost trust in her daughter-in-law .

Coming up, Saira and Toyah meet in Victoria Garden and the young widow explains she’d like to keep some of Imran’s ashes.

But she’s dealt with a massive blow when Saira tells her she’s already buried the ashes after finding out all about Toyah’s relationship with returning resident (but also former boyfriend) Spider Nugent.

Saira goes a step further and accuses Toyah of crashing her car on purpose to murder Imran.

How far will Toyah go to get her husband’s ashes?

7. Aaron impresses Kevin

Things could be looking up for Summer Spellman this week as love interest Aaron (James Craven) has a future in Kevin Webster’s ( Michael Le Vell ) garage.

This week, Aaron admires a vintage car on the garage forecourt.

When Kevin admits he’s struggled to diagnose the fault, Aaron suggests it could be due to a blown gasket, leaving the mechanic seething after the unwanted opinion.

However, much to his surprise, Kevin has to eat his words when Aaron is proven right.

This prompts Kevin to invite Aaron to join him, vowing to train him up as a mechanic.

An elated Aaron tells Summer his new job means they’ll be able to afford holiday excursion where she won’t have to near a beach.

Summer, who has struggled with her body image, is reassured and takes her insulin.
