PM Phuc calls on combined strength for stronger national development

March 6, 2021 by vov.vn Leave a Comment

These remarks were made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at an event known as “Dialogue 2045” with various business representatives and intellectuals at the Thong Nhat Conference Hall in Ho Chi Minh City on March 6, featuring the participation of many senior leaders.

The Government leader reviewed the achievements following nearly 35 years of pursuing the renewal process under the leadership of the Community Party of Vietnam (CPV), with the national economy enjoying positive growth. The lives of local people have been greatly improved, with the life expectancy increasing compared with advanced countries such as Japan and Singapore, with greater attention being given to a range of social and cultural issues.

PM Phuc therefore highlighted the contributions made by the local the business community to the nation over the past 35 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), expressing hope that firms can learn new ideas to transform the nation into a developed and high-income country.

The nation must be home to business giants capable of competing both regionally and globally by unlocking the potential and making use of the strengths of citizens living and working inside and outside of the country, he emphasized.

The nation must also strive to lure and promote external resources in terms of technology, knowledge, and innovation, along with building a brighter future.

Dialogue 2045 was held as part of efforts to chart a course of actions to translate the development goals through to 2045.

In line with the Resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, the country expects to move out of its low middle-income status by 2025.

According to the schedule, the nation will become an upper-middle income country by 2030 and gain developed and high-income nation status by 2045.

These are the key time milestones as the country prepares to mark the 50th anniversary of liberation of the South and national reunification in 2025, the 100th founding anniversary of the CPV in 2030, followed by the 100th founding anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, now known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in 2045.

PM Phuc also stated that “Dialogue 2045” will be held periodically, both via direct and online platforms, thereby covering many topics from socio-economy, the environment, culture, education, science and technology, and international integration, including national security and defence.

I want to be the Sachin Tendulkar of boxing: Vijender

V ijender Singh ‘s knowledge about Hindi movies is as good as his boxing. Ask him to repeat any dialogue or song from a particular movie and he knows it all.

And he is not a bad boxer either!

Earlier this month, Vijender became the first Indian boxer to qualify for a third successive Olympic Games. It gives him a chance to better his showing from the previous Olympics at Beijing, where he won a bronze medal.

The 26-year-old, who will lead a seven-man team at the Games, is confident of Indian boxers returning from London with a few medals this time.

– ‘I was born only to do boxing’

The ace pugilist revealed that he will not be doing any endorsements or shows till July because his focus is solely on winning a gold medal at the summer Games.

In a freewheeling interview with Harish Kotian , India’s first ever Olympic medal winner in boxing speaks about his plans for the mega event, and why he thinks he can win a gold medal this time.

You tried hard to downplay the pressure going into the Asian Boxing Championships at Astana. That was your last chance of making it to the Olympics, and certainly there must have been a lot of pressure on you. Is it a big relief that you finally made the cut?

Obviously, it is a big relief, because I was training very hard for the last six months. I was only focused on my boxing and I didn’t do any shows or endorsements. And when I finally I made it to the Olympics, I was so happy and relaxed.

It is back to the pavilion now, as I have started training again at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patialia.

W as there the fear of failure going into that event?

Yes, there was some pressure, because it was my final chance of qualifying for the Olympics. The media built up the pressure and everyone was expecting me to do it.

I am happy that despite all the pressure I was able to deliver and make it to the London Games.

'All my concentration is now on preparing for the Olympics'

Next

A s you said you didn’t do any endorsements for the last six months. Will that continue till the Olympics?

Yes, definitely. I will not do any endorsements, because all my concentration is now on preparing for the Olympics. We don’t have much time on hand, because we only have nearly 100 days to go. I will focus only on the Olympics.

What is your training schedule going into the Olympics? Will you also take part in a few competitions?

I will not be going for any tournaments. I will stay in India and continue my training. The training schedule will continue normally, and once my coach Gurbux Singh Sandhu is back, we will discuss and see if we need to make a few changes.

'There have been times when I have not done well'

Y ou lost in the first round at the Athens Olympics in 2004, but came back strongly four years later to win a bronze at the Beijing Games. Are you confident that this time you can better that effort and win a gold medal at the London Games?

I am confident I can win a gold medal at the London Olympics. I will prepare well for the Games so I can give my best in every fight and win all of them. It will not be easy, because everyone will come prepared. But I am confident; I work hard, nothing can stop me from doing well in London.

You were ranked the number one boxer in the world in your weight category in 2009. But after that your performance was not up to expectations. You were also knocked out in the first round of the World Championships last year. What mistakes did you make in the last couple of years? How are you looking to improve upon them?

I don’t think I made any mistakes as such. There are times when you are unable to give your 100 percent in a fight, and it has happened to me as well. Like Sachin Tendulkar cannot score a century in every match; still, he has made 100 centuries.

There have been times when I have not done well, but I have always bounced back. I feel now I am in top form and back to my best, physically and mentally.

H ow important a part will fitness play to keep your good form going?

Fitness is very important, and training also vital. Without training and hard work you cannot achieve anything. If you train and work hard you also recover your form soon; fitness levels are maintained too.

You got married last May, but must have hardly had the time to be at home with your wife, Archana. How difficult was it, particularly for your wife?

My wife always complains that we never go out. I have told her that after the Olympics I will have time for her.

I want to compete in a few more Olympics, because I believe I can do more than just three Olympics.

'I am 100 percent sure that Mary will win a gold medal in London'

Next

S even Indian men’s boxers have made it to the Olympics this time. Do you believe this team, which has a lot of youngsters, can win medals at the London Games?

Yes, definitely, we will win a few medals in boxing this time. Boxing is an individual sport and not a team sport, so everyone gives their 100 percent. Each and every boxer wants do well at the Olympics so they put in a lot of hard work in their training and fitness programmes.

I am sure we will do well at the Games, because we are among the best boxing nations in the world. ( Dekh lenge sabko… kyun ki hum bhi kissi se kum nahi )

Even the Indian women’s boxing team is good. They will go for the qualifiers too and I am sure they will also do well.

How do you rate MC Mary Kom’s chances at the Olympics?

Mary is the best boxer in the world and has won the World Championship a few times. I am 100 percent sure Mary will win a gold medal in London.

Mary is world-famous and a big name in women’s boxing. I don’t think anyone can stop her at the moment.

Y our bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics changed the face of boxing in India. Does it feel good that because of you the sport got such a big lift?

My Olympic bronze medal was a beginning of sorts for boxing in India and all roads opened after that. I have been doing well consistently since then. I am confident that in future I will also win silver and gold medals in the Olympics.

Do the young boxers approach you for help?

Sumit Sangwan and Shava Thapa were with me in Astana during the Olympics qualifier. I speak a lot to them about boxing and if I have played any of their opponents in the past I tell how to tackle them. I share my experiences with them and that is very important. I believe in development of young boxers.

'The support from the federation is very good'

More

H ow much credit do you give the IABF (Indian Amateur Boxing Federation) for the success of Indian boxers in recent years? They made a long-term plan for the Olympics and it seems to have worked well so far, with as many as seven qualifying for the Games.

The support from the federation is very good. They have supported all of us well and taken care of all our needs with regard to training and competition. All the boxers, whether they are juniors or seniors, have been treated well by the authorities.

I also want to say a special thank you to all my coaches and physios, like Hari [Shankar Varma] and Vaibhav [Patil] because they have put in a lot of hard work with the boxers. I also want to thank all the authorities and staff at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) at Patiala, who never let us face any problems when we stay there for the camps. I love the food there and want to thank everyone who works in the kitchen at the NIS. The food there is amazing!

India’s athletics coach found dead in hostel room

India’s middle and long distance coach Nikolai Snesarev of Belarus was on Friday found dead in his hostel room at the National Institute of Sports here, the Athletics Federation of India said.

The dead body of the 72-year-old Snesarev, who returned to India after a gap of two years to be at the helm till the end of September, has been sent to a government hospital for post mortem.

“When the door was broken, he was found lying on his bed. The Sports Authority of India doctor at the NIS declared him dead and the ED (team) of the SAI has referred the body to the government hospital for post mortem.”

“We don’t know the cause of death. We will know it later after post mortem.”

Snesarev was at the NIS running track in the morning with his wards but did not turn up for the meet which started at 2pm.

“He died with his boots on, having overseen his wards’ training this morning,” the AFI said in its tribute in a release issued later.

Snesarev was coaching 3000m steeplechaser Avinash Sable, who has qualified for the Olympics, and other middle and long-distance runners in their bid to qualify for the Tokyo Games.

“I’m deeply saddened to learn about the sad demise of middle and long distance running coach Nikolai Snesarev. He has been a great coach and helped many medal winners during his association with India since 2005. My condolences to his family and the entire athletics fraternity,” sports minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

He had quit from the position in February 2019 after Sable opted to leave him and train under Army coach Amrish Kumar.

His contract then was till the end of the Olympics, postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The veteran coach first arrived in India in 2005 to take charge of 10,000m runners Preeja Sreedharan and Kavita Raut.

He guided the duo to a 1-2 finish in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. It was the first time that Indian women won medals in the 25-lap race.

Sudha Singh, who won gold in the 2010 Asian Games, was also under his charge.

Later that year, he suggested Lalita Babar to shift to steeplechase.

And thanks to his sustained efforts, Babar became the first Indian athlete to reach a track event final in the Olympic Games since PT Usha in 1984 when she made it to the steeplechase final in 2016 Rio Olympics.

“We are stunned … he returned to India only a few days ago (landed in Bengaluru on March 2 and then reached Patiala next day), having agreed to train steeplechaser Avinash Sable for the Olympic Games,” Sumariwalla said.

“He was a hard-taskmaster and one who developed his own training routines for his athletes. He was highly respected in the international circles and we were privileged that he shared a wonderful relationship with India,” he said.

Sumariwalla also lauded Snesarev for imposing a ‘blanket ban’ on all kinds of drugs.

“As someone who believed in research, he showed us the way with his pioneering efforts towards improving the endurance and speed of his athletes.”

“He insisted that athletes never touch any medicines while training with him, imposing a blanket ban on all kinds of medication, even prescribed ones,” Sumariwalla recalled.

WandaVision season finale recap: The ending and post-credits scenes explained

March 5, 2021 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

WandaVision arrived at its reality-warping end Friday with episode 9 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe show hitting Disney Plus . We’ve come to the season finale, in the wake of Agatha Harkness ( Kathryn Hahn ) realizing Wanda Maximoff ( Elizabeth Olsen ) is the Chaos magic-wielding Scarlet Witch , and it sure looks like they’re gonna fight on the streets of Westview.

Sign up for Disney Plus

Wanda’s husband, Vision ( Paul Bettany ), is also on his way home, having been filled in on his past by astrophysicist Darcy Lewis ( Kat Dennings ). However, we’ve learned this Vision is a magical construct created by Wanda — shifty SWORD director Tyler Hayward ( Josh Stamberg ) brought his original synthezoid body back online outside the town, but it appears to be a soulless husk.

CNET Culture

Entertain your brain with the coolest news from streaming to superheroes, memes to video games.

Also in play is the newly superpowered SWORD agent Monica Rambeau ( Teyonah Parris ), whom we last saw being confronted by Pietro Maximoff ( Evan Peters ) — Agatha’s mysterious minion and an apparent refugee from the X-Men universe .

There, you’re caught up. Let’s do the incantation of SPOILERS.

Meeting their destinies

The series ends with Wanda releasing Westview and letting her family go — Vision, Tommy and Billy all vanish with the hex that Wanda created around the town.

“You know, a family is forever,” Wanda says as she and Vision put the boys to bed, seemingly for the last time. “We could never truly leave each other, even if we tried.”

Excuse me, I need a moment to clear the lump in my throat. She also thanks them for “choosing” her to be their mom, which leaves the question of exactly what they are. Before Vision disappears, we learn he was a representation of the Mind Stone that lives in her, so the twins are probably an extension of that.

An old friend of your mother’s

In a mid-credits scene, after Wanda leaves and the FBI starts cleaning up the town, Monica meets an agent in the theater. She reveals herself to be a Skrull sent by a buddy of Monica’s late mom — almost certainly referring to post-credits superstar Nick Fury.

“He heard you’d been grounded. He’d like to meet with you,” the agent says, before pointing and looking up furtively.

The Skrull “unmasking” mirrors one of the post-credits scenes in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which also revealed that Fury was in space and the version in the movie had been Talos in disguise. Monica’s smile hints that she’s absolutely up for a space adventure, yes please, giving us our setup for Captain Marvel 2 .

Monica displayed even more power in this episode when she stopped Hayward from shooting Billy and Tommy (erasing any kind of ambiguity about the sort of guy he is). She jumps in front of the bullets and they pass through her. She’s not hurt, but seemingly absorbs the bullets’ kinetic energy and they fall harmlessly to the ground.

In the comics, Monica gained the ability to transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum after getting bombarded by extra-dimensional energies — pretty much what happened to MCU Monica.

Scarlet Witch in the wilderness

The post-credits scene jumps to Wanda living in an isolated cabin, with her physical self boiling a kettle for tea and her separate, magical self reading from the Darkhold, an ancient book of power spells previously seen in Agents of SHIELD and Agatha’s mad-creepy basement .

Agatha mentioned there’s a whole chapter on the Scarlet Witch, so Wanda is reading it to get a better handle on her powers. But we also hear her vanished sons Billy and Tommy.

“Help! Mom, please!” they cry out from somewhere.

It seems they still exist in some form (possibly elsewhere in the multiverse) so Wanda will obviously be wanting them back.

Does Wanda make two cups of tea — one for her physical self and one for her magical self? Is that too much tea?

The witch’s plan

Agatha reveals she intended to steal Wanda’s magic, which would leave Wanda as a shriveled-up prune lady like Agatha’s mom, and gives us a taste of the Darkhold’s Scarlet Witch chapter.

“The Scarlet Witch is not born, she is forged. She has no coven, no need for incantation,” she reads.

Her power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme — currently Doctor Strange — and it’s her destiny to destroy the world. Feels like one of those prophecies that could be interpreted pretty liberally for maximum drama, somewhere down the line.

Agatha seemingly tempts Wanda into handing over her power — cue a glorious cackle from Agatha — in exchange for fixing Westview and letting Wanda’s family live in bliss. Since Wanda isn’t an idiot and knows it’s a lie, she sneakily mirrors the power-nullifying hex move Agatha used in her basement .

Wanda goes full Scarlet Witch and gets an awesome comic-style costume before sentencing Agatha to live out her existence as nosy neighbor Agnes. I guess she’ll just slot in with the normal Westview residents.

“Okey dokey, artichoke,” Agnes says, with a fixed grin. Okey dokey … forever.

At least Agatha is still on the board if the plot requires her, which means we’ll get more glorious Kathryn Hahn down the line (probably in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ).

Vision decision

White Vision, which Hayward created by infusing Vision’s original body with Wanda’s Chaos magic, has a small but fascinating role in this episode.

He initially appears to Wanda and does that horrible movie serial killer thing by initially appearing affectionate and then starting to crush her head aaaah make him stop . Luckily, Westview Vision (whom Wanda created with her powers as she brought the town under her spell) does just that. It turns out that Hayward has ordered White Vision to “neutralize” Wanda and destroy his Westview counterpart.

However, Westview Vision manages to logic his chalky adversary into chilling out using the Ship of Theseus thought experiment , whether an object that’s had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object — a question that could be asked of both Visions.

With a touch from his Westview counterpart, White Vision manages to access all the memories up to the point of his death at Thanos’ hands . Given the physical contact and revelation that Westview Vision is a representation of Mind Stone in Wanda, it’s possible he infused himself into White Vision to some degree.

“I am Vision,” the white guy says, before flying off to an unknown destination.

It’ll probably be a gradual return as he sorts through his memories, but it seems like the original Vision is coming back. It feels a bit like how Gamora and Loki were brought back in Avengers: Endgame — the character has been reset to an earlier point in the timeline.

Multiverse, maybe not

The apparent Pietro Maximoff from the Fox X-Men universe ( Evan Peters ) is holding Monica captive in his “man-cave,” but she quickly realizes that he’s actually Ralph Bohner — the Westview resident playing the “role” of Agnes/Agatha’s previously unseen husband. Monica also comes across a professional headshot, suggesting that Ralph is an actor.

So it seems all the X-Men universe possibilities that I (and maybe you?) have been obsessing over have come to nothin’. To be fair, Ralph Pietro didn’t actually make reference to anything that happened in the X-Men movies — he just had the face, powers and some of the attitude of that version of the character.

Now playing: Watch this: What’s new to stream for March 2021
2:09

Agatha mentioned that she was possessing him , and he had some recollection of MCU Pietro’s death in Avengers: Age of Ultron — likely a result of Agatha’s knowledge of his demise.

It’s still possible that there’s a multiversal element to this — Ralph Pietro could be an echo of the X-Men universe. It could also be a test of fans’ openness to this possibility, so let’s all social media positively and calmly about this. But we probably shouldn’t take it as proof that Hugh Jackman Wolverine or Patrick Stewart Xavier will be marching into the MCU anytime soon.

Observations and WTF questions

  • Wanda is going to be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , which comes out March 25, 2022 , so the Scarlet Witch arc will probably continue there. Feels like a long time to wait!
  • We still don’t know who the people in the commercials were.
  • After Wanda slams Agatha in the house with a car, she finds a pair of empty boots in the rubble. This feels like an indirect visual reference to The Wizard of Oz .
  • When Wanda opens the Hex to let the Westview residents escape (around 12:56), 2013’s Wizard of Oz prequel Oz the Great and Powerful is one of the movies on the sign outside the movie theater. It was directed by Sam Raimi, who helmed the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and will direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And yes, it’s on Disney Plus.
  • Also playing are Big Red, a 1962 movie about a show dog who wants to run free, and Kidnapped, a 1960 adaptation of an 1886 Robert Louis Stevenson novel. These are Disney movies, but they aren’t on Disney Plus right now.
  • Why doesn’t White Vision get dirty?
  • “Flourish.” Jimmy Woo’s own career in magic is hitting the next level, since he uses some sleight of hand to steal a phone and get out of handcuffs. He’s come a long way from that first trick he learned from Scott Lang and the Online Close-Up Magic University in Ant-Man and the Wasp .
  • After Agatha releases Dottie from Wanda’s control, she begs Wanda to let her daughter out of her room. It seems like this is where Wanda was keeping the kids of Westview (aside from the Halloween episode ) and it’s unsettling as heck.
  • As Wanda leaves town, the released people of Westview sure do have a “Burn the witch” collective energy going on.
  • We get another hint of how dangerous Wanda’s powers are when she nearly magically garrotes a bunch of Westview residents after getting stressed.
  • After Westview goes back to normal, “Tannhäuser Gate” is playing in the movie theater. This isn’t an actual movie, it’s a reference to Roy Batty’s iconic “Tears in the Rain” speech in Blade Runner , a movie about synthetic humans being hunted while they try to blend in with real people. A bit like Vision.
  • “I read somewhere that it’s bad luck to say goodbye in the dark.” I’ll definitely use Vision’s faux-superstition in real life soon.

That’s it for the show, but Disney isn’t about to let the Marvel hype train grind to halt. There’s a WandaVision making-of documentary coming to Disney Plus next Friday, March 12, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier begins Friday, March 19 — we hope you’ll join us for more re-Cap-ping fun.
