Neymar ‘has no place’ at PSG as “disappointed” club finally look to sell £200m star

June 28, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Neymar could make a sensational exit from Paris Saint-Germain this summer after president Nasser Al-Khelaifi made it clear the club wants to sell.

The Brazilian is part of PSG’s star-studded attack alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. But that attacking trio could be broken up next season, with Neymar potentially following Mauricio Pochettino in being let go this summer.

RMC Sport reports that PSG have told Neymar that he ‘has no place’ in the team for the upcoming season, when Christophe Galtier will replace Pochettino and work alongside new sporting director Luis Campos. Neymar previously looked set to stay put alongside Mbappe, but is now ‘open to a departure’, having been angered by Al-Khelaifi’s recent comments.

“A possible departure of Neymar this summer? What I can tell you is that we expect all players to do a lot more than last season. A lot more!” Al Khelaifi told Le Parisien.

“They all have to to be 100 per cent. Obviously, we weren’t good enough to go far. For next season, the objective is clear: to work every day at 200 per cent. To give everything we have for this jersey, give the maximum and we will see the result. You have to become humble again. You have to change to avoid injuries, suspensions and fouls that change a game.”

Neymar, who joined PSG from Barcelona in a world-record £200m deal in 2017, contributed 13 goals and eight assists in 28 matches last season. The 30-year-old reportedly wanted to stay put and help the club fight for a first Champions League title but has now changed his mind because he is ‘not feeling the love’ at PSG.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Would you like to see Neymar play in the Premier League next season? Comment below .

Despite racking up 100 goals and 60 assists in 144 games for the club, PSG will find it difficult to offload the Brazil international due to the money involved. Neymar’s £600,000-a-week contract is set to be extended to June 2027 at the end of the month and not many clubs can afford such an outlay.

RMC notes that Neymar’s former club, Barcelona, do not have the funds to sign him, while Manchester United would need to offload Cristiano Ronaldo first and Newcastle would represent a major step down in a World Cup year. Chelsea are considered a possibility following Todd Boehly’s takeover, but the Blues are currently focusing on deals for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Leeds’ Raphinha.

Neymar’s Brazil team-mate and former PSG player Thiago Silva would be keen for him to move to Stamford Bridge this summer. “He has to come to Chelsea,” he told Jornal do Commercio . “If it happens, it will be for the best. He doesn’t need to comment. As of now I don’t know anything, but I hope it will happen.”

Ex-Man Utd star Luke Chadwick felt “defenceless” after comedy show targeted him “weekly”

June 27, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Former Manchester United and West Ham United ace Luke Chadwick has again opened up about the “weekly” abuse he took from sports game show “They Think It’s All Over”.

The satirical sports panel show ran between 1995 and 2006, featuring a range of high profile pundits including England golden boot winner and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and actor Nick Hancock. While the program entertained millions of viewers, many of their gags came at Chadwick’s expense, poking fun at his looks and facial expressions.

In the summer of 2020 Hancock and Lineker both issued apologies, after Chadwick spoke candidly about the effect these jokes had on his mental health and well-being. But while Chadwick maintains that he holds no ill-feeling towards Lineker and Hancock, he further emphasised the negative effect the program’s “weekly” jokes had on his self-esteem.

“It was such a childish, school boy thing, it was about the way that I looked,” Chadwick said to the Pub Talk podcast. “I had spots on my face, my teeth stuck out. In general, that isn’t a problem if people want to say that, but I felt so defenceless about it.

“It was on the TV every week, in my mind everyone was laughing at me and I can’t defend myself. I never told anyone that I was struggling, but I was struggling for the fact that I thought there was something wrong with me.

“I watched it every week and I was desperate for it to stop. Every week there would be a picture or something like that and I was such a quiet and shy lad, I did not have much confidence off the pitch. I didn’t leave the house. I was so obsessed with ‘if I went out everyone will everyone be laughing at me?’ In my mind it was my fault because it is such a childish thing, I thought ‘why is it making me feel like this?’

Do you think football clubs, the PFA, the Premier League, and the EFL need to do more to support players who may be victims of relentless abuse? Let us know in the comments

After his feelings were made public, Lineker swiftly apologised to the now 41-year-old on social media, tweeting: ‘I was part of that show, therefore, I too would like to apologise to Luke Chadwick for any hurt caused.’ Hancock also reached out to Hancock, stating he is “full of admiration for the present Luke Chadwick and full of sympathy for the young Luke Chadwick”

At the time, Chadwick was a young 19-year-old prospect who was still trying to carve himself a route into Sir Alex Ferguson’s first eleven. But almost 22 years since the program’s regular joke, Chadwick made it abundantly clear that there are no lingering tensions.

“I was never looking for an apology, it was more about talking about dealing with bad mental health and how you can deal with that,” Chadwick replied, when asked about Lineker’s and Hancock’s apology. “Obviously, it’s nice for them to apologise, there’s no ill feeling.”

Liverpool join transfer chase for Porto star Otavio after Leeds’ opening bid rejected

June 28, 2022 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

After signing both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the past six months, Liverpool are expected to dip back into the Portuguese Primeira Liga with a bid for Otavio.

The Reds have already acted quickly this summer to ensure that they have a top-quality squad to go to war with next season, signing a replacement for Sadio Mane in a matter of weeks after it was revealed he wanted to depart. The Senegal winger left for Bayern Munich in a deal worth £35million, which went a long way to funding the Nunez deal completed prior.

And with Mohamed Salah’s contract situation still unresolved, Jurgen Klopp appears to be keeping one eye on replacements for his winger. According to The Mirror , they are set to rival Premier League rivals Leeds in the race for Porto forward Otavio.

The Portugal international scored three and assisted 11 in 32 appearances last season, catching the eye of several top clubs. And the Reds are expected to firm up their interest in the 27-year-old with a bid in the region of £34m – which will fall short of his £51m release clause.

Leeds have already seen a bid of £26m for Otavio rejected this summer, though they too are expected to table another offer for the forward. The Whites are firmly in the market for a right-winger this summer as they expect to sell Raphinha – with Arsenal , Barcelona and Tottenham all interested in the winger.

Otavio would be a versatile option for Jurgen Klopp given that he can play on the wing or as a no.10 in midfield, which should mean that even if Salah decides to extend his stay at Anfield, it would not scupper his chances of regular game time. And given that Takumi Minamino is set to leave and Divock Origi has already departed, Liverpool will need to add depth back to their frontline.

Plenty of talk at Merseyside it likely to revolve around Salah considering his contract expires in 2023 and he carries a lot of the goal-scoring burden for the club. But Reds legend Robbie Fowler feels that his former side must decide whether they are going to meet the Egypt international’s wage demands as soon as possible.

He told The Mirror : “What screams out to me so clearly, is they won’t be breaking their wage structure to keep him (Salah). If they were prepared to do that, it would have happened by now. But look, I can’t blame Salah for wanting the going rate, just like Mane did. He’s the Premier League Golden Boot winner, he’s the Footballer of the Year and in with a great shout of the Ballon d’Or top three.

“What salary does a player in the top three in the world command? He obviously believes it’s more than Liverpool are offering. But if my old club are running complex calculations, then so too is Salah – and it can never be a precise science. I think him saying no matter what happens with his contract, he’ll be at Anfield next year was clearly a threat. What he’s suggesting there is: give me the money or lose me for nothing. Which again, is fair enough and his right.”

Capcom has put in serious work to perfect the Resident Evil formula, and few of the titles have benefited as much as Village , a tightly focused RE game set in a gothic town filled with a wide variety of monsters and machinations. You play Ethan Winters, who explores and unlocks the village while running from — and eventually facing down — a number of terrifying enemies inspired by ancient horror tropes (plus, of course, the towering Lady Dimitrescu). The Series X does a particularly great job of running the ray tracing around Village while still ensuring 60fps. Gamers who like action with their horror will certainly want to try Village , even if it’s been a while since you’ve dipped your toes into the Resident Evil series.

Release June 04, 2021

Survival horror has had an excellent few years, and The Persistence is a great example of how fine-tuned the genre has become. The setting will probably be familiar to you: You are on a dying spaceship desperately trying to survive, and a number of horror-inducing monstrosities are trying to do unspeakable things to you. However, several things make Persistence unique. It uses a roguelike cycle where you run expeditions into the ship, which constantly changes in layout, items, and upgrades. There’s a stealth system that requires you to hide in the darkness, and a shield system that focuses more on living through attacks than fighting back. This game takes its horror seriously, and the Series X enhancement is just icing on the cake (plus it plays well in VR).

Speaking of survival horror … Subnautica was a hit thanks to survival and crafting gameplay set in a hostile alien ocean, which constantly shifts from atmospherically stifling to downright scary (especially if drowning, endless water, ocean monsters, etc., make your skin crawl). Below Zero , the sequel, improves on the graphics and adds more to do, as well as more dangers in the alien sea. It’s a good choice if you like a little horror and challenge but don’t want to take it too seriously. Newcomers may want to play a little of the first game before, ah, jumping in .

This Outbreak sequel is Series X enhanced and ready for a buddy! It’s a co-op survival horror game centering on a scary nighttime zombie experience. There’s some Left 4 Dead in it, certainly, but with a variety of interesting twists:  You only get one life per playthrough, so scrounging for supplies and staying hidden is vital to success. Many missions include tense, timed activities where death is always just around the corner. The shadowy environments are also creepy in a way few recent zombie games have been — and horror is always more fun when you can bring friends along, too.

Little Nightmares 2 is filled with what made Little Nightmares so great, but with more of it. Here you play as another of these small people, a young boy trying to escape a creepy landscape dominated by an eerie signal tower — and a variety of twisted monsters, haunted locations, and more threats eager to hunt you down. Comparisons to Inside are easy to make, but there’s a greater focus on platforming than puzzle solving here, and the combination works very well.
