Jeffrey Epstein Arrested in New York for Alleged Sex Trafficking of Minors

July 7, 2019 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in New York City on Saturday on sex trafficking-related charges, according to multiple reports .

NBC 4 New York , citing sources, reported court documents state that Epstein allegedly had sexual encounters with dozens of underage girls at his Palm Beach, Florida residence. According to authorities, the politically connected hedge fund manager employed “female fixers” who sought out the girls from all over the world for such encounters. Some of the girls were allegedly transported to his homes in New York City, New Mexico, and a private Caribbean island, according to court documents.

Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York that Epstein is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Monday.

“It’s been a long time coming—it’s been too long coming,” David Boies, an attorney who represents a pair of Epstein accusers, said in a statement to the Daily Beast. “It is an important step towards getting justice for the many victims of Mr. Epstein’s sex trafficking enterprise.

“We hope that prosecutors will not stop with Mr. Epstein because there were many other people who participated with him and made the sex trafficking possible,” added Boies.

The development comes after a federal appeals court on Wednesday ordered the unsealing of nearly 2,000 pages of records related to a civil case that may contain lurid claims about the sexual history of the wealthy investor.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling relates to records in a since-settled defamation case after Epstein in 2008 pleaded guilty in Florida to state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under age 18 for prostitution.

He was sentenced to 13 months in jail and was required to reach financial settlements with dozens of his once-teenage victims. Epstein, now 66, also was required to register as a sex offender.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz, the Miami Herald Co., and independent blogger Michael Cernovich sought the unsealing of records in the case. Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor who had worked on Epstein’s legal defense, sought the unsealing of records to fight what he called “outrageous and impertinent allegations” made against him, the 2nd Circuit noted.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

New York artist turns Brooklyn home into showcase for urban dioramas

July 3, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my Leave a Comment

A self-taught New York artist took advantage of the pandemic to create a diverse array of dioramas that depict urban Brooklyn scenes in addition to a host of other more rural settings.

Aaron Winston Kinard has worked for decades for Barnard College in Manhattan. Around four years ago, he elevated a life-long artistic flair into a passion for creating ornate dioramas.

A diorama is a miniature model of a scene represented through the use of three-dimensional objects placed in an artistic background.

Kinard’s home is like a mini-museum of his works.

When creating a work, Kinard devotes several days to painting items such as bricks. He taps in to a range of forms, from 3D printing to airbrushing to complete his works.

When the pandemic hit, he no longer had to travel across the city for work, which gave him more time to dive deeper into his artistic project.

“We’ve been on virtual or semi-lockdown for almost three years now, and during that time I had to make a decision,” he said in an interview at the Brooklyn home he shares with his partner. “While I was on lockdown, was I going to sit on the couch and watch television and drink some beers until this was over? Or was I going to get creative?”

He followed through, and tackled themes that were on everyone’s mind during the shutdown.

Themes included urban streetscapes, poverty, homelessness and Black Lives Matter protests.

Kinard, a native of Washington, DC, who has lived in New York since the late 1970s, had no formal art training other than a few classes at Barnard and the New York-based International Center for Photography.

He says he relies on experimentation and instructions on YouTube videos.

“When I looked at many miniatures or videos on this, you see guys making railroad trains and train stations, small towns, and it’s always rural and it always reflects White America, for the most part,” he said.

“And although it looks beautiful and they have talent, it wasn’t anything that I was relating to. When I tried to scan the Internet, there were very few Black artists doing this type of work also, and I wanted to represent.” – Reuters

July 3, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

TERMINAL 4 of New York’s JFK airport has reportedly been evacuated as police warn of a ‘security incident’ on the Fourth of July weekend.

Police in an armored vehicle were seen responding to the scene on Sunday afternoon. JFK announced on Twitter that “arrivals and departure levels at Terminal 4 remain closed to inbound traffic.”

The airport’s official Twitter account posted : “PAPD is currently investigating a security incident in Terminal 4.

“Please expect traffic delays and allow extra time for travel. Thank you for your patience.”

Travellers posted images on Twitter of crowds of people outside the terminal building, claiming that the complex had been evacuated.

Officials have yet to confirm whether the whole of the terminal building has been evacuated, or just an area of it.

The Sun reached out to the Port Authority Police Department at JFK but they would not give a comment at this time.

NYDP has no updates as of yet either besides the fact that Port Authority Police are responding to the incident.

The reported evacuation will impact travel on Fourth of July weekend as the country was already experiencing heavy flight delay .

Yankees trade reliever Manny Bañuelos to Pirates as New York, Pittsburgh link up for another deal

The New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates have hooked up for yet another trade. On Sunday the Pirates acquired lefty Manny Bañuelos from the Yankees in a minor cash trade, the two teams announced. New York designated Bañuelos for assignment Tuesday and had a week to trade him, release him, or place him on waivers.

Bañuelos, 31, was a top prospect with the Yankees in the early 2010s who was eventually traded away and never did show staying power in the big leagues. He posted to a 6.31 ERA in 77 innings with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago White Sox from 2015-19, then pitched in Mexico and Taiwan before returning to the Yankees on a minor-league deal this spring.

Called up on May 26, Bañuelos allowed two runs in 8 1/3 innings as a mop up reliever with the Yankees before being dropped from the roster. “It’s huge for me … I never gave up. This is my dream, (not only) pitching in the big leagues but with the Yankees,” Bañuelos told the New York Post after being called up . His fastball sat 93.9 mph in those 8 1/3 innings, up significantly from his prior MLB stints.

For the Pirates, this is simply a matter of adding pitching depth with some semblance upside. Lefties with good velocity are always in demand and Bañuelos missed bats with both his slider and curveball with the Yankees. The Pirates have enough of a need that he could land in their rotation. At a minimum, Bañuelos can give Pittsburgh multiple innings out of the bullpen.

This is the seventh trade the Pirates and Yankees have made since 2016 . Most recently, they hooked up for the Jameson Taillon and Clay Holmes trades last year.

Man whose rotting body found under sofa in New York City apartment was ‘stabbed to death’

July 1, 2022 by metro.co.uk Leave a Comment

A man whose decomposing body was found under a couch in a New York City apartment is believed to have been stabbed to death.

The city medical examiner’s office determined late Thursday that the man suffered several stab wounds to his back and neck and was the victim of a homicide, according to authorities.

Police have not yet been able to identify the man.

‘The body was so badly decomposed they don’t know who it is,’ a law enforcement source told the New York Post earlier on Thursday.

Cops responded to an apartment on Jamaica Avenue near 77th Street in the Woodhaven neighborhood of Queens on Wednesday afternoon after a tenant called the landlord to report a foul smell.

Arriving officers gained entry into the unit and found a body pinned under a couch, according to officials. The man had signs of trauma to his back. Emergency responders at the scene pronounced him dead.

His body was deteriorated to such a degree that officials suspect he may have been dead for two weeks. The man believed to be the victim was also last seen a couple of weeks ago, sources told the newspaper .

However, authorities released no details on the possible victim, including his age.

As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made in the case. No information on a possible suspect has been disclosed.

The events leading up to the fatal stabbing are under an ongoing police investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department’s Crime Stoppers.

The man’s decomposing body was found nearly six months after cops in Slaughter, Louisiana, found the body of a 36-year-old autistic woman fused into a couch , surrounded by her own waste, in her parents’ home. Authorities think that Lacey Fletcher, who had bed sores revealing her bone, may have been confined to the sofa for 12 years.

Her parents, Sheila and Clay Fletcher, have been charged with second-degree murder, and their trial could begin as soon as October.
