Grand Designs Kevin McCloud warns you should NEVER buy a property for sale here

October 18, 2018 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

Grand Designs: Kevin McCloud introduces a new series

Kevin McCloud is the property expert who has presented Grand Designs since April 1999.

As such the expert has amassed a lot of knowledge when it comes to design and the property market.

Now, speaking to Express.co.uk, the Bedfordshire man has issued a stern warning about buying property.

He said: “I would strongly advise against buying on a floodplain unless your house is specifically built to mitigate that.”

I would strongly advise against buying on a floodplain unless your house specifically built to mitigate that

A floodplain is an area of land near a river or stream that will flood if there is high rainfall.

Having a home here could mean the property is severely damaged if there is a flood.

However, Kevin did have some advice for those shopping for homes.

He said: “I would strongly advise to be looking for houses which are green, which have low to zero energy bills.

“It’s great financial resilience in your life and on a community-wide level it’s resilience to climate change.”

Kevin is a keen fan of environmentally friendly design.

He said: “When I invest I invest in renewable and ethical portfolios.

“They may at the moment be yielding on par with conventional non-ethical investment but my belief is that in the future as the effects of global warning and climate change become more obvious to us all, these investments will start to make real sense and the same goes for a house.

“Why would you spend more on a house that costs you £1,000 a year to heat? It’s just a waste of money.”

Kevin McCloud made this update in his house , he told Express.co.uk.

Kevin told Express.co.uk: “What I’m doing already is at home I just replaced some ordinary sockets with USB sockets.

“So, I can plug in a lamp and I can also plug in my phone and a watch charger and I don’t need a transformer to plug in.”

In tonight’s episode of Grand Designs two identical twins will build similar houses next door to each other.

They hope to build two houses for the price of one, on a tight budget.

Grand Designs is on at 9pm on Channel 4 every Wednesday.

The programme is currently in its 18th run.

Disgraced property developer’s loans worth $12.6M to be sold by Agribank

September 27, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net Leave a Comment

The loans were obtained by four companies related to Tan Hoang Minh, which has been struggling since last year when its chairman Do Anh Dung was arrested for alleged fraudulent misappropriation of assets.

They were given against long-term lease contracts at Tan Hoang Minh’s seven-floor headquarters in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.

Loans and other receivables are packaged and sold through a process known as securitization.

Last month Agribank also looked for buyers to sell nearly VND500 billion worth of debts owed by seven companies related to Tan Hoang Minh.

They were backed by properties on Phu Quoc Island.

In response, on September 27, 2023, the Slovak Foreign Ministry summoned the Hungarian ambassador to Slovakia, Csaba Balogh. Slovakia asked the Hungarian ambassador to explain Slovakia’s reservations against interference in the election campaign in Slovakia by supporting specific political entities to the Hungarian minister.

The Slovak ministry said that it considers such actions to be outside the standards of diplomatic communication.

Related: In August, Szijjártó criticised the arrest of former police chief Tibor Gašpar, who is now running in the election on the slate of the Smer party. He said that Gašpar was a victim of the “liberal mainstream”.

Black bear causes chaos at Walt Disney World in Florida as theme park closes rides

September 18, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Disney World has closed the Magic Kingdom after a black bear was spotted in the popular attraction . Over half the park is now closed after cast members reported seeing a wild bear scaling one of the park’s trees.

Staff from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) were deployed to capture the adult female bear.

The FWC said its biologists, staff from its bear management programme and law enforcement officials worked together to bring the bear to safety.

The agency said: “Staff have captured the animal and are relocating the bear out of the park to an area in or around the Ocala National Forest.”

In a statement, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said it was aware of a black bear reported in a tree on Walt Disney World property at the Magic Kingdom. Officials added: “In most cases, it is best for bears to be given space and to move along on their own, but given this situation, staff are working on capturing and relocating the bear.”

Multiple sources told popular blog Walt Disney World Magic blog that a bear was spotted in a tree near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. Employees are located at the Liberty Square and Adventureland entrances, preventing guests from entering the park’s western side.

According to the My Disney Experience app, the list of rides impacted by the closure include:

  • Jungle Cruise
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Hall of Presidents
  • Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • Swiss Family Tree House
  • Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid
  • Wald Disney World Railroad
  • Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

Popular blog Mickey Views reports that a cast member discovered a bear on Tom Sawyer’s Island, during a routine pre-opening check of the caves on Tom Sawyer’s Island.

The blog reports that a cast member discovered the creature inside one of the narrow underground passageways on the island.

Stats from Thrill Data show that guests at the park are currently waiting much longer than average due to the unexpected closures.

Disney has an exhaustive animal control program, which is designed to handle situations with local wildlife – as snakes and other creatures are often spotted at the resort.

It wouldn’t be the first sighting of natural Floridian wildlife on park premises. There have been alligators spotted near Splash Mountain and in restroom stalls, according to the blog WDWMagic.com , and squirrels have previously wreaked havoc on carousel rides.

The FWC’s website states that black bears are common and can be found almost anywhere in the state, though they prefer “a mixture of flatwoods, swams, scrub oak ridges, bayheads and hammock habitats,” where they frequently roam as they hunt for food and water or shelter.

That often includes the areas around Walt Disney World. The FWC generally recommends that the public avoids bears and doesn’t provoke them. They’re naturally scared of humans and will tend to stay away.

It also says that feeding them is not only illegal but it can also erase their fear of humanity and make them bolder and more likely to approach populated areas.

Recently Walt Disney World offered discounted stays and waived cancellation fees for parkgoers affected by Hurricane Idalia.

The resort announced it would slash 50 percent off new hotel bookings for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night made by people fleeing the storm, or first responders helping with the evacuations.

The company waived cancellation and change fees for those who had already booked to arrive.

Brave mum shields kid’s face as brazen bear hops on picnic table and devours their meal

September 26, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

This is the incredible moment a brave mum shields her son’s face and manages to remain still after a bear hops onto their picnic table and devours their meal before leaving the area.

Footage captured at Chipinque Ecological Park in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, Mexico , shows how the woman remained calm and did not panic during the face-to-face encounter. In the video, the black bear can be seen eating trays of enchiladas and tacos laid out on a picnic table.

As the bear eats, the woman has an arm around the boy’s body and another on his face to protect him from the bear. At some point, the animal briefly gets near the child’s head but appears to ignore the presence of humans and continues to eat the food on the table.

The bear encounter lasted about two minutes (

At some point, the camera turns around as the bear walks across the table, and another person sitting on the opposite side of the bench, appearing terrified as the animal briefly gets close to her face. Everyone remained quiet and did not move while the bear went through their food, skipping over several drinks and knocking down a bottle.

The bear can then be seen getting off the table and walking over to an empty tray to search for more food, as a family member continued to calmly film the encounter, which lasted more than two minutes. The bear eventually left the area and nobody was injured.

The video was published on TikTok and went viral, getting over nine million views. The caption, in Spanish, reads “Cuando vas a echarte un taco a Chipinque”, which means” When you go to get a taco in Chipinque”.

Many people praised the woman for staying calm and protecting the child, while others wondered whether the camera person was invisible to the bear. A TikTok user wrote: “I think the mom was the real bear here protecting her young.”

Another added: “A Mother’s love is HUGE!!!! I could cry. Look at how the boy feels safe with mom. Look at mom facing fear.” One more commented: “That mother is an angel. She did her best to keep that boy safe. She didn’t even cover her face.”

The National Park Service (NPS) advises people to stay calm and remain still in case you come across a bear. It is also important to avoid screaming as the bear might think it is the sound of a prey animal. You should not run or make sudden movements.

But the NPS also says human food can be a danger for people and also harmful to bears because the animals can lose their preference for natural food sources and their fear of humans. This also means that over time, bears may begin approaching people in search for food – and can potentially become aggressive, unpredictable, and dangerous. These bears are also often euthanised as they are considered a risk to public safety.

It adds: “Depending on which national park you decide to visit and what types of bears are present there, regulations differ for how best to store your food. Some parks require food lockers or bear-resistant food containers (‘bear canisters’), while others allow visitors to hang food from a tree in a food bag. Bear canisters should always be locked and stored properly when not being used. Not following those rules may result in fines, confiscation of food, towing of cars, or other penalties to protect visitors, property, and bears. Read below to learn some common food storage tips that can help you have a more enjoyable visit to your national park.”

In picnic areas, people are advised to keep their food within arm’s reach, securing it when arriving at your campsite and avoid storing it in your tent or backpack. You should also wash dishes immediately after eating.
