It could be an important week in the Manchester United takeover process as bidders await communication from the Raine Group and the Glazer family. Sheikh Jassim, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other parties will soon discover whether their bid is successful or if they are involved in the third stage.

Sheikh Jassim finished the second wave of bidding on Saturday, three days after the 9pm Wednesday deadline.

And the Raine Group will now sit down with the Glazers as they assess their options, with minority investment also on the table.

Avram Glazer reportedly isn’t ready to relinquish control of United, while Joel Glazer is said to be more open to a sale.

The American owners could opt for a minority stake, which would help them invest in redeveloping Old Trafford and the club’s Carrington training ground while remaining at the helm.

However, Sheikh Jassim nor Ratcliffe seem prepared to back down in their efforts to take advantage of United’s arrival on the market.

Express Sport provides LIVE updates below as Man Utd takeover news and speculation continue to linger…

Qatar draw up multi-club network plan

Qatar Sports Investment have drawn up a plan that will see Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting Braga become a multi-club network that will dominate European football, the Daily Record report.

The plan will see Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani successfully purchase the Red Devils this season and move to the ‘helm of Europe’s most powerful multi-club network’.

Senior QSI executives are said to have discussed making Braga a ‘development club’ for United and PSG where young talents will be sent on loan to progress and gain experience in a top European league.

Talks are also ongoing about whether Spanish side Malaga will join the portfolio of clubs involved, with a subsidiary member of the Qatar’s ruling family already owning the La Liga outfit.

Goncalo Ramos price tag set

Manchester United have been warned that they must meet Goncalo Ramos’ £92million release clause if they are to sign the striker this summer, according to reports.

The Portugal international has been highlighted as a potential No 9 option at Old Trafford next season, with United keen to secure his signature.

However, Benfica are reluctant to part ways with Ramos, with Portuguese news outlet Record reporting that they would not let him leave unless his release clause of £92m is met.

The 21-year-old was expected to receive a major pay rise this season but has not since been rewarded for his impressive form in the Liga Portugal, scoring 16 in 21 appearances, leaving the Benfica star ‘disappointed’.

Second bids below asking price

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s second bids for Manchester United still fall below the Glazers’ asking price, according to reports.

ESPN claim both offers were increased from £4.5bn but haven’t reached the heights of £6bn.

However, there is hope around the process that a compromise will be met to complete a takeover before the summer.

United staff have been told the expect clarity about the future of the club’s hierarchy before the end of the season.

Raine Group response timeline

The Raine Group won’t make Manchester United suitors wait too long to learn whether they are continuing in the takeover process.

The Mail report that Raine are expected to respond to the second wave of bids within the next seven days.

It’s likely those who have made it into the next stage, or the successful party, will come to light this week once the US merchant bank has sat down with the Glazers.

Man Utd set for world-record fee

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth admits the Manchester United takeover process will ‘rumble on’ amid uncertainty over the Glazers’ intention to sell.

However, he believes United will ultimately be sold for a world-record fee due to the mass interest in the club.

He told GiveMeSport : “There have been all sorts of talk that there’s a split within the Glazer family and that some want to sell, while some actually want to keep hold of Manchester United.

“I know there’s a big section of Manchester United fans who just don’t want the Glazers anywhere near the club anymore.

“So that will be a slight concern to them. But it’s still going to rumble on this one because there are so many people interested in buying United, and it’s going to go for a world-record fee, you’ll think.”

Zilliacus rules out Liverpool interest

Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus has ruled out making a move to invest in Liverpool.

Zilliacus is leading one of the parties interested in a full takeover of Manchester United.

And he has insisted his full focus is on that.

He tweeted: “Some newspapers report that I would be interested in buying Liverpool. That is incorrect.

“Man Utd has been my club since I was a boy. My full focus is on being successful with the bid I have made.”

Ratcliffe’s Hull City roots

Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be a boyhood Manchester United fan looking to buy the club from the Glazer family.

However, his venture into football started at Hull City after his family moved to Humberside from Manchester when he was 10.

The Mirror claim Ratcliffe worked as a ball boy at Hull’s former ground Boothferry Park during their promotion-winning 1965/66 season in the Third Division.

Ratcliffe entered the business stratosphere by raising pocket money selling ‘Golden Goal’ tickets at the game.

Now he’s a billionaire as the founder of petrochemical giant INEOS and already owns another football club in OGC Nice.

Sheikh Jassim ‘confident’

The longer the takeover process is prolonged, the more nerves among fans grow over the prospect of the Glazers staying in control.

However, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is the favourite to buy Manchester United for a reason.

And the Mail report that those close to the Qatari banker insist he remains confident of success.

Sheikh Jassim has the funds available to meet the Glazers’ valuation and then heavily invest in the club’s playing staff and infrastructure.

Rashford delaying contract decision

Marcus Rashford is waiting for clarity about Manchester United’s ownership situation before committing to a new contract.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at Old Trafford, and his electric form this season has left him in a strong negotiating position.

However, The Sun report that he is in no rush to decide on his future while United’s ownership is up in the air.

Zilliacus reiterates joint-bid desire

Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus has once again stated that Manchester United’s two leading bidders should join forces with him to complete a takeover.

On Monday morning, Zilliacus tweeted: “I want to buy Manchester United to make it the best club in the world, on and off the field.

“If my main rivals want the same, then we should join forces.

“Three strong owners equals three times more money for the club equals a better and stronger Man United.”

Sheikh Jassim’s NFL trump card

Sheikh Jassim believes the prospect of hosting NFL games in the Middle East could give him an advantage in the Manchester United takeover race.

The Glazers also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the NFL has recently tried to expand the sport globally by playing games in London.

According to The Sun , Sheikh Jassim hopes he can convince them over a sale by discussing a joint venture to take NFL action to the Middle East.

He believes it can boost the Qatari bid and even give him an advantage in negotiations when the third stage of bidding arrives.

Avram Glazer ‘against’ selling

It has been widely reported that out of the Glazer family, Joel and Avram Glazer are the two most hesitant to sell Manchester United.

However, the Mail report that Joel is open to relinquishing control at Old Trafford if the price is right.

Avram, though, is currently against a full sale, and he only appointed the Raine Group to learn how much a takeover could rake in down the line.

There is undoubtedly a split in the Glazer family over differing stances which hasn’t helped uncertainty.

Man Utd to be made into ‘multi-club network’ as Qatar hatch PSG and Sporting Braga plan

Manchester United could form part of a multi-club network alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting Braga if they are brought under Qatari ownership in the near future, according to reports. The Red Devils are currently in the process of finding new owners, with a proposed takeover expected to occur before the start of next season if everything goes to plan over the coming weeks and months.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with United bigwigs earlier this month and recently submitted a new bid for the club, with his Qatari consortium aiming to beat Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to succeed the Glazer family in the driving seat at Old Trafford. It seems as though United could be integrated into a network of clubs if a Qatar-led takeover happens, with the Red Devils in line to be placed at the summit of a multi-team model, according to the Daily Record .

It is said that senior Qatari executives could deploy Braga as a feeder club for both United and PSG, with the French giants owned by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and chaired by Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Under the plans, elite prospects would be signed from European and South American clubs before moving to Portugal with Braga in order to gain experience at first-team level.

The best players would then be transferred up the multi-club system to either United or PSG, with Braga also part-owned by QSI after selling a 21.67 per cent stake to the firm back in October. Antero Henrique, who previously worked as PSG’s sporting director and is currently in charge of the Qatar Stars League, is thought to have been tasked with devising the plans in order to take advantage of Qatar’s growing investments in Europe.

United, PSG and Braga are all placed to qualify for next season’s Champions League as things stand, with their proposed network able to emerge as one of the most powerful alliances in world football. Meanwhile, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin recently hinted that the governing body’s rules on multi-club networks could be relaxed in the near future, which would come as a significant boost for the Qatari group in the running to buy United.

“This multi-club ownership question is an interesting question, I think we should think about it for the future and see what to do,” said Ceferin when quizzed on a potential Qatar-led takeover of the Red Devils earlier this month.

“There is more and more interest for this multi-club ownership and we shouldn’t just say no for the investments, but we have to see what kind of rules we set in that case because rules have to be strict. We have to rethink the current rules. I think it has to be quick because everything has to happen quick in football.”

It remains to be seen how the situation will play out between now and the start of next season, with the Glazers set to decide their next course of action at some point over the coming days. United’s current owners have appointed the Raine Group to oversee the takeover process and could either name a preferred buyer or request a third round of bidding, with none of the offers believed to have matched the Glazer-imposed asking price of around £6billion as of yet.

Abouk also referenced the “pain” and “grief” she experienced due to the separation and the “failure of a family project to which [she] had given [her] body and soul.”

She added she did not imagine in addition to facing the “usual pain that comes with a separation,” she would also have to confront “this shame” as well.

Lionel Messi struggles to hold back tears at Argentina’s incredible World Cup homecoming

March 24, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Lionel Messi struggled to hold back the tears as he and his Argentina team-mates received an incredible homecoming following their World Cup triumph.

Messi and co. played on home turf for the first time since lifting the trophy on Thursday (March 23), hosting Panama in a friendly. There were special scenes before the match as the 83,000-strong crowd gave them a hero’s welcome at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.

A firework display was held while the teams lined up on the pitch, with the home fans chanting loud enough to have raised the roof – if there was one.

Their serenading left the whole team on the verge of tears. Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez was visibly emotional and Messi looked particularly choked up.

Once the game got underway, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was once again the star of the show. He twice hit the woodwork with free-kicks.

And it was a case of third time lucky as he netted one in the 89th minute to secure Argentina a 2-0 victory, with young midfielder Thiago Almada also getting on the scoresheet. It was his 99th international goal and the 800th of his career.

Is Messi your GOAT? Let us know in the comments section.

After the match the celebrations continued, with the players joined by their families. Messi’s wife Antonela and their three sons Thiago, Mateo and Ciro were beside him as he lifted the World Cup trophy for a second time.

The whole squad were given their own replica trophies to life in unison with their captain, which resulted in Martinez recreating his infamous Golden Glove pose in Qatar.

As well as doing it with his team-mates, some of the Argentina WAGs also got in on the cheeky action.

Addressing the crowd, Messi said: “I always dreamed of this moment and to celebrate with you. With my country, Argentina.

“I don’t want to forget all the teammates I had before because we also did everything possible to get it. Let’s enjoy the third star.”

Angel Di Maria’s wife slams “s***hole” Manchester and its “white and weird women”

May 6, 2020 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Angel Di Maria’s wife has branded Manchester a ‘sh**hole’ and admitted the Argentinian flop only joined United for the money.

In an astonishing attack on the English giants, Jorgelina Cardoso has revealed Di Maria never wanted to go to Manchester United and that the pair of them hated living there.

Di Maria became one of the club’s most expensive signings when he joined them from Real Madrid in 2014 for £60m.

The winger signed a deal worth £175,000-a-week that made him one of the highest paid stars in United’s history and inherited the No. 7 shirt made famous by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo .

But he failed to settle in Manchester and was branded one of the worst signings in history following a string of woeful performances.

Di Maria lasted less than 12 months at United and when he failed to board a flight for the side’s pre-season tour of America the following summer, club bosses decided to cut their losses and sell him to PSG in a £44m deal.

Cardoso admits the move was destined to fail because she hated Manchester and only agreed to leave Madrid because of the huge wages on offer to Di Maria.

She said: “I remember Angel coming up and saying, ‘an offer from Manchester United has come in. Maybe we’ll be a little more financially secure…’.

“We fought about it. I told him, not a chance, he could go on his own. ‘No, come on. Let’s go’, he replied. There was a lot of money involved, and afterwards, the Spanish were calling us money grabbers. And they were right!

“If you are working for a company and the competition comes along and offers to pay you double, you take it!”

Cardoso admits she didn’t like Manchester following a visit there to see Sergio Aguero and his then wife Gianinna Maradona, daughter of Argentina legend Diego Maradona.

She slammed the food and people – and even claimed she feared for her life.

Cardoso added: “I didn’t want to go to Manchester because I am friends with Gianinna Maradona, who was married to Aguero, and we flew from Madrid to his house in Manchester to pay him a visit for two or three days when Angel had a few days off at Real Madrid.

Today’s top football stories on Daily Star

“It was horrible! A sh**hole, we went to the house and we were like… ‘See you later guys, we’re out of here’. When we left, I said to him, ‘Go to any country – except England!’. Anyway, one year later and there we were in England.

“I didn’t like anything about it, not a thing. The women are all pasty-faced and white, prim and proper… weird. You’re walking down the street and you don’t know if they’re going to kill you or what.

“The food’s disgusting. All the girls are all dolled up to the nines, perfectly made-up and there’s me with my hair in a bun and with no make-up on.”
