Russia suffering from ‘shortage of dead bodies’ despite 168,000 killed in Ukraine

March 23, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Russia is reportedly suffering from a shortage of dead bodies despite the hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed in Ukraine .

This is said to be creating a problem for doctors in the country, who are forced to go abroad to experience dissections.

Telegram channel Baza cited Aleksey Ivanov, the head of a private anatomical lab in Russia, who said medical students are travelling to countries such as Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan to learn with cadavers.

That is, despite the Ukrainian military’s latest estimates putting the total number of Russians killed in the war at over 168,000.

Baza reported that global sanctions placed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine has led to its supply of corpses, which mostly came from the US before the war, drying up

This has forced Russian medical schools to adopt different techniques to train their future doctors.

Maria Potemkina, head of a high-tech educational development team at the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University in Moscow, said in November that students are now being trained using virtual reality.

“Simulators created using VR technologies provide high reliability and the maximum effect of immersion in the real work of a doctor,” she told Gazeta.ru.

“The student can assess the patient’s condition, including using instrumental research methods, and conduct treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

“In my opinion, and in the opinion of experts, VR simulators are valuable because we can use them to safely [re]create life-threatening situations for both the doctor and the patient, which we cannot recreate during training.”

Vladimir Putin admitted last month that sanctions against Russia have been bleeding the country’s economy since it invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

He said in an address: “We are living under the constant pressure from abroad – I mean all these endless sanctions.

“As we all see, we are passing through all these sanctions with a cool head.

“[The sanctions from the West] can only be the expansion of the sphere of freedom and protection from the side of law enforcement authorities on the whole and the judicial system in particular.”

Thousands Dead After Massive Earthquakes Rock The Middle East | The Daily Wire

February 6, 2023 by www.dailywire.com Leave a Comment

Thousands of people are reported dead in Turkey and Syria following two earthquakes that rocked the region on Monday.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck shortly after 4 am was one of the strongest to hit Turkey over the last hundred years, leading to scores of buildings and homes being flattened into rubble. Later in the afternoon, a 7.5-magnitude shaker hit the southeastern part of the country.

More than 2,300 people reportedly died after the quakes rocked the region, sending tremors as far away as Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, and Egypt.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) noted the affected population resides in structures that are extremely vulnerable to earthquake shaking. The report said that “high casualties and extensive damage are probable and the disaster is likely widespread.”

According to the USGS’s early estimates , there is a 47% chance of that the earthquake will have killed between 1,000 to 10,000 people and a 20% chance of that the earthquake could have killed between 10,000 and 100,000.

One of the most stunning scenes filmed in the aftermath was a fire that reportedly broke out at a gas line.

The Biden administration responded to the situation by saying that it would provide support to the region.

“The United States is profoundly concerned by the reports of today’s destructive earthquake in Turkiye and Syria,” said national security adviser Jake Sullivan. “We stand ready to provide any and all needed assistance. President Biden has directed USAID and other federal government partners to assess U.S. response options to help those most affected. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in coordination with the Government of Turkiye.”

WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified Thomas Huster, 79, as the person killed Tuesday night when a tree fell on a car in Rossmoor, a senior living community in Walnut Creek.

Huster was the passenger in a car that was traveling on Stanley Dollar Drive when a large tree came down onto it, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Walnut Creek and the Bay Area were dealt another storm Tuesday on already saturated soil. Fallen trees and widespread power outages were reported throughout the region.

As firefighters responded to the scene just after 7 p.m., the female driver was already out of the car and was not seriously injured, Con Fire Spokesman Steve Hill told Bay City News Service.

Huster died while seated in the car.

Firefighters worked for 90 minutes to extricate his body from the wreckage, Hill said.

Huster was a Walnut Creek resident, according to the coroner’s office.

NTSB chair details investigation into second Ohio train derailment

Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board Jennifer Homendy discusses the second train derailment in Ohio which was not carrying hazardous chemicals.

A federal investigation into the May 2021 plane crash that killed Christian diet guru Gwen Shamblin, her actor husband Joe Lara and five others in Tennessee found the cause to be pilot error – ruling out mechanical problems, drugs and alcohol in the process.

The group was on a Florida-bound trip when the aircraft entered some clouds, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and then the plane spiraled out of control.

Air traffic controllers initially received no response from the pilot as the plane began an unplanned descent.

After a second attempt, he cut right, then left, then turned down again and slammed into a reservoir at high speed, according to the NTSB report.

Lara, who starred in the 1990s TV series “Tarzan: The Epic Adventures,” was believed to have been piloting the Cessna C501 as it went down near Smyrna, Tennessee, on May 29, 2021.

They were headed to Florida, but minutes after takeoff, he apparently lost control.

“Flight track data revealed that after takeoff, the airplane entered the clouds and made a series of heading changes, along with several climbs and descents, before it entered a steep, descending left turn,” the NTSB investigators wrote in their report. “This type of maneuvering was consistent with the onset of a type of spatial disorientation known as somatogravic illusion.”

As the plane sped up while hurtling toward the ground, Lara may have believed he was accelerating upward, according to the report.

“This occurred because the pilot was experiencing spatial disorientation and he likely did not effectively use his instrumentation during takeoff and climb,” the report reads.

A witness from ground level, a fisherman on a boat in Stuart Creek, told investigators he heard, “‘extreme vertical acceleration for about 3 to 4 seconds’ followed by a ‘boom.'”

The plane slammed into Percy Priest Lake, described as a shallow reservoir, killing all seven people on board.

Lara was a certified pilot with more than 1,680 flight hours, according to the NTSB, but only 39.8 hours of instrument flight experience, with just six of them in the plane that crashed.

A flight instructor told the safety board that Lara struggled with instrument-only flights and as a result “was not proficient enough” to operate in busy airspace in places like Atlanta, New York City and Los Angeles.

Authorities identified the other victims as Lara’s son-in-law Brandon Hannah, and friends David and Jennifer Martin, and Jessica and Jonathan Walters.

U.S. Contractor Killed, Service Members Wounded In Drone Strike | The Daily Wire

March 23, 2023 by www.dailywire.com Leave a Comment

A drone of Iranian origin killed one U.S. contractor and wounded five service members and another contractor in Syria on Thursday.

The Pentagon disclosed the attack in a press release Thursday evening, saying that the U.S. military carried out airstrikes against affiliates of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which the U.S. designated as a terror group in 2019.

“At the direction of President Biden, I authorized U.S. Central Command forces to conduct precision airstrikes tonight in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC),” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement . “The airstrikes were conducted in response to today’s attack as well as a series of recent attacks against Coalition forces in Syria by groups affiliated with the IRGC.”

The U.S. airstrikes came after a one-way unmanned aerial vehicle struck a maintenance facility for coalition forces near Hasakah in northeast Syria on Thursday afternoon. Of the six wounded in the attack, two service members were treated on site and the others and the U.S. contractor were transported to medical facilities in Iraq, the Department of Defense said.

“As President Biden has made clear, we will take all necessary measures to defend our people and will always respond at a time and place of our choosing,” Austin said. “No group will strike our troops with impunity.”

“Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the contractor who was killed and with those who were wounded in the attack earlier today,” he added.

The incident in Syria comes as U.S. and foreign officials have grown increasingly concerned over the state of Iran’s nuclear program. General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told lawmakers during a hearing on Capitol Hill on Thursday that Iran is “several more months” away from producing an “actual nuclear weapon.”

The scenario has alarmed Israeli officials who in recent months have been increasingly outspoken about the threat of a nuclear Iran and Israel’s determination to act and stop such an outcome. Israeli officials have reportedly warned officials in the U.S. and Europe that Israel will strike Iran if it enriches uranium past a 60% threshold. Uranium is weapons-grade after it is enriched up to 90%.

At the same time, Iran has been bolstered by Russia and China. Russia is reportedly considering supplying Iran with S-400 missile systems, an anti-air missile system that Israel fears could protect Iran’s nuclear facilities from an airstrike. China has helped Iran build diplomatic ties in the region, serving as the middle man for a recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
