Real Madrid could have a major input on who Tottenham appoint as their next manager, according to reports. Los Blancos may soon be searching for a new boss of their own and two candidates for the Spurs job may be of interest.

Tottenham and Antonio Conte parted ways on Sunday through a mutual agreement . The Italian’s rant following the 3-3 draw at Southampton a week earlier proved to be the final straw for chairman Daniel Levy.

Assistant Cristian Stellini has been placed in temporary charge, with Ryan Mason alongside him. Spurs have been linked with a host of managers in the last week.

Mauricio Pochettino could make a return to the club after being out of the game since last summer. Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann was only sacked by Bayern Munich last week but has already been linked with the Spurs job.

However, Real could have a say on the pursuit of both managers. Ancelotti’s future at the Bernabeu is in serious doubt.

Real find themselves 12 points adrift of rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga following the El Clasico loss last time out. Sky Sports News reporter Paul Gilmour claims both Pochettino and Nagelsmann could be targeted by Real if Ancelotti leaves the club.

Both managers have been linked with the Real job before. Spurs may not have the lure to convince their preferred target to join them ahead of the Spanish giants.

Levy, therefore, may have to wait to see Real’s next move before deciding on a next boss. Levy is hoping Stellini can get a tune out of the Spurs players for the final 10 matches of the season.

He told Reuters : “Ancelotti is unanimously respected among players. Not only Ronaldo Nazario or Vinicius Jr but all those that have played for him.

“Bukayo is such a great talent. I think everyone can see what he gives on the pitch but he’s one of the best people I have met in football as well.

“We see him on a daily basis around the camp and he just brings happiness to everyone.

Arsenal ace Emile Smith Rowe insists Folarin Balogun has to do “what’s best for him” regarding his international future as the striker can join either England, Nigeria or USA.

Smith Rowe said: “Of course [I would prefer he choose England], but obviously it’s his decision.

“That’s down to him to do what he wants to do. It would be nice if he could be with us in the summer [for the European Under-21 Championship].

    Rice must go

Danny Murphy has urged West Ham superstar Declan Rice to leave – with Arsenal leading the race to sign him in the summer.

Murphy told the Daily Mail: “Declan Rice has to leave West Ham. Ideally he would have gone last summer because it’s been hard for him to maintain his best form in a team that doesn’t keep the ball or boss games as well as others.

“He’s 100 per cent ready to move to the next level and at 24 won’t want to wait any longer for Champions League football.

“Arsenal would be a great option and I think he’d be an automatic starter. The lure of Chelsea is also strong, having grown up supporting the club and playing in their academy.”

    Keane’s Tottenham prediction

“That should have been three points. But I still think they can get there. Yes, they are inconsistent but the teams below them are also inconsistent.”

“A lot could happen in football, a lot could change, and it just depends on the conversations we have between me and the club in the summer, and we’ll see what happens.

“I mean there’s no door that’s closed. Of course I have had a good year here and to a lot of people it makes sense for me to come back here. So yeah I mean I don’t know what the future will bring.”

    Well I Nev-er

Arsenal fans have mocked Gary Neville for predicting that Antonio Conte would deliver Tottenham a trophy.

Spurs parted ways with the Italian coach , 53, on Sunday evening as his 16-month stint in North London came to an end.

Conte helped the Lilywhites qualify for the Champions League last season as they pipped the Gunners to fourth spot.

But things have unravelled in recent months with Tottenham being dumped out of the FA Cup and Champions League.

Gary Neville previously said he thought Conte would never leave without winning something.

Gooners have poked fun at him, saying: “His predictions always turn against him. He said Arsenal had no plan with their recruitment. Look at him now. Still believes Man Utd will finish above Arsenal.”

    ‘Do a Sol Campbell’

Arsenal fans are begging Harry Kane “to do a Sol Campbell” and quit Tottenham in favour of a move to the Gunners.

The striker linked up with Bukayo Saka brilliantly during England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine yesterday, converting his cross to put the Three Lions ahead.

And it led to some cheeky supporters dreaming about Kane moving across North London.

Sol Campbell made the controversial switch from Tottenham to Arsenal in 2001 and went on to win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups at the club.

Kane has been encouraged to follow in his footsteps, as one fan said: “Kane x Saka is a broken combo. Kane feel free to do a Sol Campbell.”

“Mikel Arteta would develop him, bring him on even more and he would be massive for the team as well.

“I have had conversations with Dec and told him what he is doing in unbelievable, he is captain of a big club and is always learning

You have to be respectful to West Ham , that is his club, but his future is in his hands and it’s very exciting for him because he’s got everything with him now and he’s picking up more and more, he’s growing into this man who could play anywhere.

“I’m looking forward to wherever he goes. I hope it is Arsenal, it would be a massive signing and a perfect fit.”

    Arsenal missed out on Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has revealed he could have joined Arsenal at the age of 18.

The Nigerian striker, 24, has established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe over recent seasons.

He has bagged 53 goals in 91 games for Napoli , including 25 in 29 games this term.

But Osimhen ‘s career could have gone down a completely different path before he joined Wolfsburg in 2017.

Speaking to CentreGoals , he said: “I spoke with Arsene Wenger and he wanted me to come to Arsenal but it was not the best option at the time.”

Wenger missed out on a number of high-profile names during his 22-year stint in charge of Arsenal.

Mykhailo Mudryk was wanted by Arsenal and Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Chelsea eventually won that battle by meeting Shakhtar Donetsk’s £89million demand for a player with little more than a season of senior football under his belt.

And after seeing Bukayo Saka shine , Arsenal fans are already claiming it was a lucky escape for their club because Mudryk is yet to make an impression in England.

One relieved Arsenal fan said: “I have never been so glad we didn’t get a player.”

Another declared: “He’s bang average. Arsenal dodged a bullet.”

More added: “Overrated is an understatement, Chelsea should phone the police as they’ve been well and truly robbed.”

    Hilarious Saka and Antony comparison

Pundit Chris Sutton has hilariously claimed that Man Utd star Antony looks up to Bukayo Saka after his sensational performance for England yesterday.

Sutton wrote in the Daily Mail : “Saka is winning the battle on the right. Mo Salah has not been the same footballing force for Liverpool this season. Riyad Mahrez is incredibly talented for Man City but I would rank Saka ahead of him.

“And I won’t be taking any suggestions of Antony seriously — the United man probably has Saka posters hanging on his bedroom wall.”

Antony has struggled to consistently perform at his best during his first season in England having made the £85m move to Old Trafford.

He has scored just six goals this season.

“When debating the best left winger, a few contenders can crop up in conversation.”

Daily Star’s World Cup of Football S***houses: Vote for your winner in Group D

March 27, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Roy Keane finally enters the action in Daily Star’s World Cup of S***houses as the ex- Manchester United star looks to make it a double.

Keane was our back-to-back winner in our World Cup of Pundits and is among the favourites in the new tournament – though faces some fierce competition from some true s***houses.

You know the type – those that pull, pinch, time waste and use every trick in the book to wind up the opposition and win games. We absolutely love them.

In fact, we love it so much, that we thought a true champion needs to be crowned and came up with our very own World Cup of S***houses. But who wins? You decide…

READ MORE: Confused England fans are convinced Bear Grylls is former Premier League referee

We have shortlisted 32 names and split them into four randomly-drawn groups. With Groups A and B now done and dusted, we move on to Group C with the top two progressing to the semi-finals.

You get only one pick, so choose wisely!

Roy Keane

With a s***house legacy that has far surpassed his playing career, Roy Keane is a worthy contender to go the distance in Daily Star’s World Cup of Football S***houses.

From his brutal payback tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland that was years in the making to mocking the voice of Harry Maguire while on Sky Sports punditry back in 2021, Keane never holds his punches.

Now settled into the punditry game after stepping away from management – Premier League players will no doubt hope to avoid his wrath for years to come.

Pepe

Real Madrid icon Pepe has picked up a total of 14 red cards during his playing career – with a 2009 sending off providing a truly memorable meltdown.

The central defender first shoved over Javi Casquero before grabbing his opponent by the head, proceeding to stand on his rival twice for good measure.

Pepe then struck Juan Albin in the face before being handed a 10-match ban in true s***house style. Also known for rattling his opponents, Pepe found the time to slam Morocco’s time-wasting after the World Cup in December.

Diego Godin

Another central defender who would do anything to lead his team to victory Diego Godin was a master of the dark arts during his time under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid .

The Uruguay veteran has never been afraid to tussle with opponents using elbows and shoulders in a bid to assert his physical dominance – and is a master of doing so without the officials seeing.

His ability to find the net from set-pieces only strengthened the fury Godin would bring out of his opponents, with his departure from Europe a big loss to the s***house community.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy in his pomp would laugh his way through Premier League fixtures on his way to scoring a hugely impressive 134 goals in the competition for Leicester.

Having celebrated against Wolves by doing his best howl and doing a dancing eagle impression after netting against Crystal Palace, Vardy is truly a leading s***house.

The former England man is never happier than when winding up opposition fanbases dating back to his Championship days – and is right among the contenders for Daily Star’s World Cup of Football S***houses.

Robin Friday

The late former Reading and Cardiff City forward Robin Friday left some legacy in the game – despite retiring at the age of 25 and passing away just 13 years later.

Friday was known for unsettling opponents and a rather poor disciplinary record – once booting Mark Lawrenson in the face during a fixture.

As well as his spoiling tactics, Friday was hailed for his footballing intelligence as well as physical and mental strength – and is firmly a cult hero.

Martin Keown

The image of Martin Keown screaming in the face of Ruud van Nistelrooy is quite possibly the most recognisable striker vs defender clash in Premier League history.

Arsenal’s Keown was not only delighted but seemingly delirious after Van Nistelrooy missed a Manchester United spot-kick, getting up close and personal for good measure.

Although additionally known for his crunching tackles with six Premier League red cards, it will be that penalty reaction that has Keown in contention for Daily Star’s World Cup of Football S***houses glory.

Claudio Gentile

A Juventus and Italy icon, Claudio Gentile was an uncompromising defender who made his name as a man-marker who was not shy of aggressive challenges.

Often placed on polls of the hardest players in football history, Gentile was smart enough to limit his red cards to one across his career which no doubt wound up the opposition even more.

Gentile said in 2021: “A defender has to be strong. That’s something very different to being dirty and going in to do harm. A defender is a defender, not a dancer.”

Scott Brown

Scott Brown is synonymous with the Celtic success of the past two decades, leading his side to glory through his leadership as well as physical and mental strength.

Brown loved nothing more than winding up opposition players and fans during his time at Parkhead, notably getting Alfredo Morelos sent off in a 2019 Old Firm derby.

If that fixture needed to sum up his style in ore detail, he casques a mass brawl after scuffling with Ryan Kent, with Celtic of course going on to win.

VOTE HERE NOW!

Voting for Group D of the Daily Star World Cup of S***houses will end on Sunday April 2.

You only get to vote for one player, so choose wisely!

France Survive Ireland Scare, Netherlands Ease Past Gibraltar | Football News

March 28, 2023 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

France held on to beat Ireland 1-0 in Dublin on Monday to win their second Euro 2024 qualifier, while the Netherlands eased past Gibraltar 3-0. Right-back Benjamin Pavard pounced with half an hour remaining at a sold-out Lansdowne Road before two superb Mike Maignan saves in the final two minutes. With 30 seconds to play in Dublin, AC Milan’s Maignan, who has succeeded former captain Hugo Lloris as Les Bleus’ goalkeeper, tipped over team-mate Jules Kounde’s panicked header.

From the resulting corner Maignan saved the visitors’ skin as he made a similar save from Nathan Collins’ powerful effort.

“Mike’s stop allowed us to stay in the match and claim a clean sheet, so I’m going to say that he’s the man of the match,” Bayern Munich’s Pavard told television channel TF1.

“I had the chance to play, it was succesful, I scored, even if a defender’s main objective is to defend well,” he added.

In Rotterdam, Manchester City centre-back Nathan Ake scored twice in a little over half an hour as the Netherlands overcame 10-men Gibraltar, 200th in the FIFA rankings.

Sponsored by Vuukle

Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay opened the scoring in the first half with a towering header before veteran Liam Walker was shown a red card the other side of the break.

Oranje captain Virgil van Dijk bemoaned a lack of goals at De Kuip from his team, who lost heavily to France in their Group B opener on Friday.

“You score three goals, but you have to score many more,” van Dijk said.

“This is a game where you can hardly ever get it right. You have to win 10-0, so to speak,” he added.

– Gregoritsch’s ‘rollercoaster’

Emile Forsberg, Viktor Gyokeres, Jesper Karlsson and Anthony Elanga netted for the hosts and Bahlul Mustafazade scored an own goal.

Austria avoided an upset at home to beat Estonia 2-1 despite trailing after 25 minutes from a Rauno Sappinen effort.

Cologne winger Florian Kainz opened his account for his country with 22 minutes to play before Michael Gregoritsch completed the comeback with two minutes to go.

Real Madrid’s David Alaba came off the bench after 46 minutes after Gregoritsch has missed a first half penalty.

“I’ve had enough of rollercoaster rides,” Gregoritsch told broadcasters ORF.

“I also have to apologise to the team for letting them worry for so long,” he added.

Dominik Szoboszlai superb free-kick set Hungary on their way to a 3-0 success over Bulgaria as they started their campaign clinically.

Elsewhere in Group G, Dusan Vlahovic’s double were more than enough as Serbia beat Montenegro 2-0 in only their third meeting since Montenegro declared independence in 2006.

In Group E, the Czech Republic were held 0-0 by lowly Moldova as Karol Swiderski scored his ninth goal in 21 internationals as Poland beat Albania 1-0 after losing to the Czechs on Friday.

On Tuesday, the pick of the ties is in Group A as Spain head to Scotland with the next international window in June.

Cristiano Ronaldo showed off a new goal celebration in memory of his time at Manchester United as he bagged a brace in a Euro 2024 qualifying game for Portugal on Sunday night. Portugal thrashed Luxembourg 6-0 in their second qualifier as they moved two points clear of Slovakia at the top of the Group J table.

Ronaldo was in fine form for his country at the Stade de Luxembourg and opened the scoring in the ninth minute as he bundled the ball in from close range. And to celebrate his strike, the blockbuster star ran to the corner of the pitch, where he combined his trademark Siu and Nap celebrations.

Ronaldo’s Siu celebration originated during his time playing for Real Madrid, with the ace shouting the word down the microphone after beating Lionel Messi to the Ballon d’Or in 2014. And he later explained: “The scream? The players know I always do that shout when I score a goal or when we win. It’s our shout, from Real Madrid.”

Ronaldo’s Nap celebration, meanwhile, was spotted for the first time last autumn after the 38-year-old had scored against Everton for the Red Devils.

According to the United website , the celebration was “a self-deprecating in-joke with his fellow team-mates” and “a nod to the position in which he sleeps when travelling with the squad.” Ronaldo is known for his strict off-the-pitch regime to ensure he is in the best shape possible. And he is reported to nap several times a time.

Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva added their names to the scoresheet inside the opening 20 minutes against Luxembourg, before Ronaldo kept his composure to finish well after being teed-up by ex-United team-mate Bruno Fernandes just after the half hour mark. And the Euro 2016 winners wrapped up the victory in the second half as Otavio and Rafael Leao struck late on.

Ronaldo is one of the most decorated players in the history of football, having won five Champions Leagues, five Ballon d’Ors and four Club World Cups. He enjoyed two spells with United, where he bagged 145 goals and 64 assists in 346 matches.

The veteran started the current season at Old Trafford after signing for the club for a second time in the summer of 2021. But following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan , during which he said he felt “betrayed” by the club and had “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag, the ace had his contract terminated and signed for Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr.
