Channel 4 ‘axes’ iconic series with ‘no plans of a return’ after 16 years

September 27, 2023 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

Don’t Tell The Bride: Couple’s wedding gets CANCELLED

The Channel 4 series Don’t Tell The Bride has been axed and will no longer be aired after 16 years on screens, it’s been announced.

The series originally began airing on BBC Three in 2007 and has seen a whopping 14 series and plenty of bride meltdowns and unique weddings.

Over the years, many grooms have taken charge of the wedding day planning and left the bride-to-be out of the planning, having the biggest surprise of their lives on the day.

Producers gave each fiance a budget of £10,000 to plan the ceremony and reception, with brides often left sobbing when they realised what their other half had done.

Don’t Tell the Bride moved over to BBC One in 2015, before being shunted to Sky One the following year.

Channel 4’s sister network E4 has been airing the show since 2017, but it will soon be removed from schedules permanently.

A source told The Sun: “People are flocking to E4 right now to watch Married At First Sight UK in their millions.

“But whilst there are no plans for Don’t Tell The Bride to return at the moment, it’s clear that people love the chaos and drama that wedding fever brings – so who knows what could happen!”

Express.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

The popular show saw some couples stay happily married and loved up, but many ended in divorce with some affairs being exposed.

Bianca and Adam from the latest season were the most recent couple to divorce after she found out he had been cheating on her for five months.

They had only been married for 18 months before Bianca discovered flirty text messages on her husband’s phone shortly after he was rushed to hospital.

After being cheated on for five months, Bianca told Fabulous Online: “I went from being terrified of losing my husband to furious that the man I loved had been sleeping with another woman behind my back.”

Meanwhile, another unhappy bride refused to legalise the marriage after her groom planned a catastrophic Oktoberfest-themed wedding for the show.

Despite being together for eight years, 26-year-old Sofia claimed that “if Craig doesn’t know me by now, it’s probably warning signs”.

Despite Don’t Tell the Bride being taken off air, viewers can still get their dating reality fix with their other shows such as Celebs Go Dating and Married at First Sight.

Paris Fury reveals Gypsy tradition she’ll be happy for her kids to ignore

September 24, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

SHE had her first baby at just 20, but that doesn’t mean Paris Fury wants any of her own kids to follow tradition and start a family young.

Paris , who at the time of going to press was just about to give birth to her seventh child with boxing-champ husband Tyson Fury , insists: “The children have got to choose their own path.

“Their heritage is a Gypsy background, so it’s normal to be married and have kids young.

“But if they don’t choose that, that’s up to them. Everybody’s situation is different, but I’ve never, ever looked at having children young as a hindrance.

“It was something I always wanted and planned.”

Which is lucky, given she will imminently have her hands full caring for her newest arrival , alongside Venezuela, 13, Prince John James, 11, Prince Tyson II, seven, Valencia, five, Prince Adonis, four, and two-year-old Athena, whose start to life was tumultuous after spending days in intensive care on a ventilator following her birth in August 2021.

Having previously said the traumatic experience with Athena – whose heart stopped beating at one point – made her apprehensive about having more children, it was a surprise when Tyson announced in March that Paris, 33, was expecting again.

She says: “After Athena was born, I did think that maybe we wouldn’t bother again, but then I knew I wanted another one. You can never say never.”

Paris, who in person is funny, good-natured and incredibly grounded, recently made headlines when she revealed she had pulled Venezuela and Prince John James out of school, choosing instead to have them homeschooled by a tutor – which is the traditional Traveller way.

Writing in her new book, How Does She Do It?, she said: “When I was 11 years old, I made the decision to stay at home with Mam rather than continue on to high school.

“So, by choosing to stay at home instead of going to school, kids like me were given plenty of time to be taught practical skills by our elders, like how to cook a meal or change a tyre, or how to replace a broken wall tile or polish the family silver.

“Choosing home over school in your early-to-mid-teens is still seen as controversial by many in the wider world – many times on Loose Women I’ve had to argue my case for leapfrogging secondary education, but speaking from personal experience, I think it makes total sense.“

Fewer children to get ready in the morning may have one upside though – more time to get organised for the school run.

Viewers of the family’s recent Netflix show, At Home With The Furys , were obsessed with Paris’ morning routine, when she was seen getting all her kids ready to leave in an hour.

Today, she confesses that sometimes it is so hectic, she doesn’t have time to change out of her PJs.

She laughs as she recalls: “I haven’t done it that many times, but there have been occasions where I’ve been in my pyjamas when I am running late.

Once I ran out of petrol on the roadside. I had pyjama bottoms on, so I spent an hour hiding until my friend brought a drum of diesel.”

Paris and Tyson, 35, who was also brought up in the Travelling community, met when she was 15 and he was 17 and married three years later in 2008.

She’s now lived more of her life with the world champion heavyweight boxer than without him, and has been by his side through his well-documented mental health battles that saw him spiral into drink and drug abuse before he was diagnosed as bipolar in 2017.

She explains: “I don’t know any different. I’m happy with everything in my life. It seems crazy to other people, but that’s our normal.

“The family is a lot, the kids are a lot, my life is a lot. Tyson and I have been together since we were kids.

“It’s corny to say it, but love conquers all. I don’t feel like I’ve got a challenge with Tyson. I think it’s normal because we’ve been together from the beginning.”

Family is at the centre of everything Paris does – shaped by her upbringing with her sisters, Romain and Montana, and brother Jimmy.

Romain contracted whooping cough as a baby, which affected her brain and led to permanent learning disabilities, and she is still cared for by their parents.

Paris credits her sister with teaching her to cope with life’s challenges.

She explains: “I wouldn’t be who I am without being raised how I was. Having a sister with special needs prepared us for the world.

“It taught me the world isn’t just rainbows and sunshine.

“There were days when my sister would play up and people would stare at us. It would make me embarrassed, but eventually I learned that it’s their problem, not hers or ours.

“To see that as a child was eye-opening. My mum told us that things aren’t always perfect, but you need to go with it.

“I’ve got more time and compassion for somebody who’s not quite the ‘norm’.”

Paris has also helped sister-in-law-to-be, Molly-Mae Hague , 24, adjust to life in the Travelling community, after the influencer fell for Tyson’s brother Tommy , 24, on Love Island in 2019.

Molly-Mae – who gave birth to the couple’s daughter Bambi in January this year – went on to heap praise on Paris in the Netflix series.

She says: “I was actually really surprised that Molly-Mae spoke highly of me and my world. It’s lovely to hear people’s opinion of you.

“I think the same of her; she’s a clever young lady who’s really switched-on.

“Regrettably, we don’t get to see them much at the moment. Tyson and I met Bambi early on, and now Molly-Mae and Tommy are so busy, but hopefully there will be time soon.”

Reality show At Home With The Furys has been a smash hit for Netflix, with the streaming giant desperate to get them signed up for a second series, but Paris has reservations about letting the cameras back into their Morecambe home.

“I would never say never,” she admits.

“We are both very busy at the minute. Tyson was retired when we first started the show, and now he’s back in full-time boxing.

“We all enjoyed it. It was great. We’ve been offered the second season and we’re on the fence about it.

“We’re taking into account at the moment that it’s made the kids famous. Often, we have to employ bodyguards if we’re together in public.

“I frequently worry about them being kidnapped. Do we want to go down that route, because how can you live a normal life if you have a bodyguard?

“Venezuela is starting to go places by herself. She went to the races last week and had a security team. She was asking why she had a bodyguard, as she found it embarrassing.

“I understand, but every person was pointing her out, saying: ‘There’s Tyson Fury’s daughter.’ There’s been tension around the house the last couple of weeks.

“It is hard for them, because they have got to learn to live in a world where they’re not blended in or normal.

“It is a bit unfair, but then there are a lot of worse things that could be happening. They are blessed in other ways.”

It’s not just out and about that their popularity is causing problems, as the documentary also revealed the location of their home.

“We’ve constantly got a parade of people waiting outside the house, which isn’t a good feeling,”

Paris explains. “It’s nice to show the world how you live, but we never really thought about it being an ongoing show.”

It’s not as though they need the money, either.

But despite the family being worth around an impressive £50million, Paris remains completely down-to-earth, confessing she prefers to fly economy over first class.

She sighs: “I’ve done first class a few times and every time I wonder why are we here, especially with all our kids. It’s so much easier in economy!

“Everybody pays for those seats and people expect luxury – not my kids bouncing on the beds.

“Tyson and I are used to the noise, but I’m not going to ruin it for other people. I can’t be that person in first class with my kids going wild.

“I’d be a bit of a bad mother if I went into first class and left them in economy,” she laughs.

“If I stayed with them, Tyson would leave me and go to first class. He’d say that he’s too big, which is true.

“One of the perks of Tyson’s life is flying with his legs stretched out, but sometimes I do just rain on that parade.”

Paris has always been open about how much she would like Tyson to retire, but with his plans to fight Francis Ngannou next month in Saudi Arabia , it seems unlikely he will be hanging up his gloves anytime soon.

“Deep down, I can imagine him going until he’s 40. I don’t want him to, but he’s still young and at the top of his game. But he has to stop eventually.

“He needs to find what he likes and put his passion into something else.

“I don’t know what that is, because he’s spoken about opening a boxing gym and helping the younger generation, but he needs something that will fill the void of 100,000 people cheering his name.”

There have been rumours of Tyson’s life being made into a film – so perhaps he could move into acting and play himself?

“It wouldn’t shock me at all,” she says. “It would certainly interest him. We’ve had some big proposals put forward for him to go into acting seriously.

“But he’s done acting in the past and he lasts a few hours before he gets frustrated. I don’t know if he has the Brad Pitt gene. I’d need to teach him to smoulder!”

The TV series finished with Tyson popping the question for a third time and asking Paris to renew her vows. So, are wedding bells going to be chiming soon?

“Tyson surprised me with that. He keeps asking me when we are going to book the wedding, and deep down I’m wondering whether I really want to do it.

“We’ve got very different ideas of a vow renewal.

“I want him and me to go by ourselves and have a sentimental moment, whereas Tyson’s thinking about a big wedding party. So we’ll wait and see what happens with that.”

Without a wedding on the cards, what’s next for Paris?

“I have no plan,” she admits.

“My plan is to be happy and healthy. Tyson has to set goals and achieve stuff – I’m a bit more of a wing-it, hippy chick!

“I hope I can bring my kids up right – that would fulfil me more than anything else.”

Inside commune run by Brit who ‘came into money’ near where man was stabbed to death in ‘Blue Whale suicide game row’

September 26, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

THIS is the off-grid commune run by a Brit that went from being a peaceful woodland getaway to the background of an alleged stabbing death over a warped suicide game.

It comes after a man was killed allegedly during a row while a group of friends played the sick Blue Whale suicide challenge in remote woods in central Portugal .

Xavier Hancock owns self-styled Libelinha Venture, in Figueiró Dos Vinhos with his Spanish partner Arantxa Atauri.

The public school-educated businessman is believed to have unknowingly hosted the group of UK visitors that included both the suspect and the 35-year-old stabbed to death.

The alleged killing reportedly took place in woodland near Xavier’s land in the early hours of Sunday.

The precise location for the alleged crime has not yet been confirmed.

There is no suggestion whatsoever Xavier or his partner are in any way involved in the crime but the forest retreat owner made sure to confirm that he is “cooperating fully” with police.

“As this is an active investigation, I will only answer questions from the authorities who we are cooperating with fully,” Xavier told local media on Tuesday.

“Once the official evidence has been released, I would consider sharing the story.”

Nature-lover Xavier was educated at a public school in Oxford and looks after his land with the help of volunteers from the UK he puts up in Sioux Indian-style tepees and tents.

The Brit, who describes himself as a digital creator on social media, has spoken about “falling in love” with the forest valley near the picturesque village of Figueró dos Vinhos where he and his partner created their off-grid community.

Xavier has organised fundraising campaigns online to plant over 6,000 trees, shrubs and bushes on his land and subsequently keep them alive during a drought in the area.

Volunteers wanting to take part in the family-run project focusing on land regeneration and reforestation are offered ‘Glamping’ accommodation on site as well as food.

A write-up on one online site offering volunteers the chance to get involved, thought to have been drafted by Xavier and his partner, says: “We are trying to create something that is becoming rare in this day and age.

“The unique opportunity to disconnect, while enjoying life by living simply surrounded by nature, in a remote enchanting forest valley.

“We are looking for volunteers who will join us for a month or more, who bring good energy to the land and community, who take pleasure in giving and are willing to get involved in a wide range of projects to help create the vision.”

The write-up adds that accommodation would be in a shared tepee or tent for those preferring more privacy.

“Living in a forest means we are totally off-grid, creating the rare opportunity to disconnect from the usual connections in modern day life, allowing us the time to enjoy the natural surroundings as well as the people around us.”

Portuguese cops were continuing to probe on Tuesday after a British man was arrested on Monday.

The suspect was an organiser of a weekend festival and had been worrying about paying for land he had rented due to poor ticket sales caused by bad weather in the run-up to the event, Correio da Manhã reported.

It was not immediately clear on Tuesday if the festival took place on the land owned by the couple.

But police sources said after the unnamed Brit man’s body was found he and the suspect had been at a party at Libelinha Venture before moving onto woodland outside the community.

It is not known if the party at Libelinha Venture and the suspect’s organised festival were the same event.

Cops confirmed on Monday they were initially told the British man’s death was linked to an argument that started while he and his friends were playing the Blue Whale suicide challenge.

But sources close to the investigation subsequently insisted they had found no evidence there was a Blue Whale link to the death.

The Portuguese daily also claimed on Tuesday the suspect had only mentioned the game “after having confessed to the crime” as a way of “explaining the situation that led to the macabre death.”

The alarm was raised around 6.30am on Sunday and the detainee reportedly admitted stabbing his alleged victim before taking police to the remote woodland spot where his body was.

Investigators believe the knife used was found alongside the corpse and left in a small clearing in woodland close to Figueiró dos Vinhos.

Footage published Correio da Manhã showed police lifting the dead man’s body on a stretcher after it was covered with a sheet and putting it into the back of a nearby van.

A waiting Red Cross ambulance took it to Coimbra after officers reached the nearest tarmacked road.

A post-mortem is thought to have taken place yesterday in the university city of Coimbra, although the results have not been made public.

Policia Judiciaria police force in Coimbra is also in charge of the ongoing investigation and has not yet been made any official comment.

“The suspected author of the crime has been arrested. The circumstances including the possible motive are still under investigation,” A well-placed police source said.

“Both the detainee and the man arrested on suspicion of killing him are British.”

Another police insider said: “A group of about half a dozen people the suspect and dead man were part of were staying at a campsite near to the place where the victim’s body was found.

“It appears they had attended a party there earlier that night before leaving to head for the woodland where the stabbing happened.”

The group are understood to have been planning to fly back to the UK in about a week’s time.

You’re Not Alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.

Meghan Markle critic hit by new misogyny backlash

September 27, 2023 by www.newsweek.com Leave a Comment

Dan Wootton—a regular U.K. media critic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle —has been suspended over “misogynistic” comments made by a guest on his show.

The presenter at British broadcaster, GB News, broke a number of major royal exclusives, including the January 2020 story that Harry and Meghan were planning a new life in North America, during his time as a reporter for The Sun .

Harry described Wootton in his book Spare as “a sad little man,” in relation to that story and added that “he’d got everything wrong on his last big ‘exclusive,'” which had been about arguments over Meghan’s wedding day tiara .

Now Wootton has apologized in the face of an investigation by U.K. television regulator Ofcom into comments made by Laurence Fox on his show, which he acknowledged he did not “immediately” challenge. GB News suspended him as a presenter after it launched an investigation on September 27.

The host laughed as Fox made sexual comments about female journalist Ava Evans, who later reacted on X , formerly Twitter by saying: “I feel physically sick.”

“Show me a single, self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman… ever… ever,” Fox said on Wootton’s GB News show on Tuesday, later adding: “Who’d want to shag that?”

While the backlash was predominantly against Fox, who is known for raging against values he considers to be “woke,” Ofcom will likely also consider Wootton’s role as the interviewer and whether he did enough to challenge his guest. The network suspended Fox and apologized to Evans.

Newsweek reached out to GB News for comment. The network said in a statement: “GB News has suspended Dan Wootton following comments made on his program by Laurence Fox last night.

“This follows our decision earlier today to formally suspend Mr. Fox. We are conducting a full investigation.”

GB News could still reinstate Wootton after its investigation but if he were fired it would remover from public debate a major and regular critic of Harry and Meghan.

Wootton issued a lengthy apology on X : “I want to reiterate my regret over last night’s exchange with Laurence on GB News.

“Having looked at the footage, I can see how inappropriate my reaction to his totally unacceptable remarks appears to be and want to be clear that I was in no way amused by the comments.

“I reacted as I did out of shock and surprise in an off-guard moment while working out how to respond as he continued to speak by searching for tweets [Ava Evans] had sent earlier in the day while having them read out in my ear at the same time.

“However, I should have intervened immediately to challenge offensive and misogynistic remarks. I apologise unreservedly for what was a very unfortunate lapse in judgement on my part under the intense pressure of a bizarre exchange.”

Over the summer, Wootton was the subject of allegations of sexual offenses that were reported to Metropolitan Police, which have been assessing the information. He denies the allegations and he has remained as a presenter on GB News.

Piers Morgan, who has spoken out against what he considers to be “woke” values many times, wrote on Twitter: “Ava is a very talented journalist and delightful person. Fox is a disgusting piece of misogynist trash.”

Interestingly, Morgan was previously investigated by Ofcom after saying, while a presenter on Good Morning Britain, that he did not trust Meghan’s account of feeling suicidal, as delivered to Oprah Winfrey in her March 2021 interview.

The regulator acknowledged Morgan’s comments were offensive but exonerated the show because other guests challenged his views.

That precedent may not bode well for Wootton who has already acknowledged he should have done more to challenge Fox.

Ofcom’s Piers Morgan ruling read: “[ Good Morning Britain ] contained statements about suicide and mental health which had the potential to be harmful and highly offensive.

“However, our Decision is that overall the programme contained sufficient challenge to provide adequate protection and context to its viewers.”

By contrast, Wootton appeared to smile and nod as Fox spoke, though he did end the exchange by saying: “She’s a very beautiful woman Laurence, very beautiful.”

That may do little to allay the public backlash over misogyny though it is perhaps the closest Wootton comes to offering GB News the kind of defense used by Good Morning Britain in relation to Morgan.

What’s more, Fox posted on X: “By matter of interest for the audience contributors do a pre interview before going on, so they knew exactly what I intended to say.”

Ofcom said in a statement: “We can confirm we’ve received a number of complaints about comments made by Laurence Fox on GB News last night.

“We are assessing these complaints against our broadcast rules and will publish the outcome as quickly as possible.”
