The 2019 election clock is revealed

November 8, 2018 by thethaiger.com Leave a Comment

The countdown is now ticking as the pieces click together for next year’s election – the first since the Thai army took control in a peaceful coup in May 2014, ousting the elected Yingluck Shinawatra government.

Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngarm has presented the clearest political timeline yet that will lead to a general election on February 24, 2019, the appointment of the next prime minister and the forming of a new government two months after that. Wissanu has clearly laid out all the steps on the roadmap which will lead to a new, elected Thai government.

Wissanu said the Election Commission will announce a promulgation of the Royal Decree for the election of members of the parliament between December 16-27 simultaneously to be accompanied by the lifting of political restrictions by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Thai PBS reports that, according to this timeline, the charter-mandated law for the election of MPs will come into force on December 11 requiring the election to be held within 150 days — with May 9 as the latest date.

On January 2, the EC will submit a shortlist of 200 potential senators to be screened down to 50 with another 50 on the reserve list.

Within 5 days after the promulgation of the Royal Decree on MPs election, the EC will announce the election date, the dates for application of candidates for the election and the number of MPs for each constituency.

Within 25 days as of the promulgation of the Royal Decree, application for election candidates kicks off and will last five days during which parties must submit the names of their candidates for the premiership to the EC for official announcement.

Election for 350 constituency MPs and 150 party list MPs to be held on February 24. Results of the election will have to be formally announced by April 24 or within 60 days after the polling day.

April 27, NCPO handpicks 50 senators plus another 194 others and six ex-officio senators followed by a Royal Command endorsing all the 250 senators.

In May, the term of the National Legislative Assembly will come to an end, one day before HM the King formally announces the opening of the parliament. The Royal appointment of the prime minister, the cabinet, the oath taking by the cabinet members and the end of the term of the NCPO will take place after May 8.

Qatar Airways is the world’s best airline in the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Last year’s winner Singapore Airlines, has been relegated to second place. Asian airlines have taken six of the top ten spots with Thai Airways, despite their local woes, just sneaking into the Top Ten.

The Skytrax awards are the most prestigious in the business, voted for by travellers.

Qatar Airways has also won the Skytrax top award in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011. Qatar Airways also won World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat and Best Airline in the Middle East. Qantas Airways nabbed number 8 on the list, after failing to make the top 10 in 2019.

Singapore Airlines also won key awards including World’s Best Cabin Crew, World’s Best First Class, Best Airline in Asia and World’s Best First Class Seat. AirAsia won World’s Best Low-Cost Airline topping off a stellar win for Asian airlines this year. Lufthansa was the only European airline able to break the top 10. US airlines were conspicuously absent in the listings but United Airlines did World’s Best Business Class Lounge.

British Airways, which failed to attract any awards in 2018, won Best Airline Staff in the UK and Most Improved Airline in Europe (that will make a wonderful headline in the British tabloids today).

CNN Previews CDC Guidance for Vaccinated People: ‘It’s Not like Going Back to 2019’

March 5, 2021 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The upcoming Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance for vaccinated individuals will not be a return to pre-pandemic normalcy, according to CNN.

The CDC is finalizing guidance for those who have been vaccinated in the United States. Over 82.5 million coronavirus vaccines have been administered as of Thursday.

While the final guidance has yet to be released, it is expected to advise those who have been fully vaccinated to only “have social interactions at small home gatherings with other fully vaccinated people,” per Politico . According to Politico ‘s preview , “the guidelines said that vaccinated individuals should continue to adhere to mask and social distancing guidance in public.”

CNN said the CDC confirmed Politico’s description regarding the small, maskless social gatherings. But, according to CNN, the guidelines will not have a pre-pandemic feel.

“It’s not like going back to 2019,” the outlet assessed, urging readers to refrain from tossing their cloth masks.

“The guidelines will advise the vaccinated to continue to wear masks in public and keep a good physical distance from others,” the outlet reported, citing infectious disease expert Dr. William Schaffner, who said masks “work” and play a key role in fighting virus variants.

CNN added there is “no guarantee that vaccinated people may not still carry virus in their noses or throats — virus that may not make the carrier sick, but that could be spewed out and infect someone yet unvaccinated.”

A Biden official said the guidelines will not provide specifics for every scenario, but they will provide “principles for people to think through.”

“It will give people the means to think through it and then they can choose what level of risk they wish to take,” the official said.

More than 82 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the United States, according to the CDC, 16.3 percent of people receiving at least one dose. Dr. Anthony Fauci said the U.S. must have a majority of Americans vaccinated, 75-80 percent, to create an “umbrella of protection over the community that the level of community spread will be really, really very low.”

A Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released this week showed 41 percent of Americans remain unwilling to receive a vaccination for the Wuhan virus.
