Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son Prince Edward lined up to take Duke of Edinburgh title

February 26, 2021 by www.thenews.com.pk Leave a Comment

Prince Philip, who retired from public life in 2017 after decades of extraordinary service to the Crown, has been admitted in London hospital for medical attention.

The 99-year-old prince was given the Duke of Edinburgh title ahead of his marriage to the Queen in 1947 and their youngest son Prince Edward is reportedly being lined up to take over the title.

The Queen’s husband has served a lot as a working royal, but one of his biggest achievements was to establish the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

A media outlet quoted a constitutional expert Iain MacMarthanne as saying: “In respect of the dukedom of Edinburgh, it was felt, to ensure its survival, that it should pass to another of his sons, this being Prince Edward.”

His brothers Prince Charles, 72, and Prince Andrew, 61, received dukedoms from the Queen on their wedding days.

Prince Edward, who currently holds an earldom – a lower-ranking peerage, has also taken on his father’s legacy when it comes to continuing his work with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Spoon Unearth ‘Lines in the Suit’ Demo for ‘Girls Can Tell’ Anniversary

February 25, 2021 by www.rollingstone.com Leave a Comment

Spoon have unearthed their 1999 demo for “Lines in the Suit,” a track off 2001’s Girls Can Tell , to mark the 20th anniversary of the Austin band’s third studio album.

Unlike its polished album version, the home demo for “Lines in the Suit – 30 Minutes Old” finds the track in its embryonic form; as suggested by its title, the track was recorded just half an hour after Britt Daniel conceived of the song, giving the demo an unsteady feel.

“ Girls Can Tell was the Hail Mary pass that absolutely no one thought was gonna find a receiver. It was the record where the colors changed, trains collided, and suddenly we sounded a lot more like us than we’d ever sounded before,” Daniel said of the album in a statement. “The big idea behind Girls Can Tell was to take stock of the band’s MO from inception until that point, to carefully consider all the things we’d been trying to do and the way we’d been doing them, and then set out to specifically avoid all of that. To instead come up with some new songs that were actually about where I was at and how I was feeling! Songs that knew no cool rules. Songs that cried themselves to sleep at night and got up and shook themselves by the collar the next morning. It was the record that sorted out how much fight we had left in us. It came out February 20, 2001.”

Spoon have taken a nostalgic trip through their catalog in recent years, rerecording songs in different styles (like “ Inside Out ” and “ Rainy Taxi (Big Beat) “) and digging up old demos. As Daniel told Rolling Stone last year, the band was also at work on their follow-up to 2017’s Hot Thoughts , but Covid-19 halted their plans.

“I’d say we had 70 or 80 percent of the record done,” Daniel said. “We were recording right up until March 10th. And then March 11th was when this whole mess kicked into high gear.” Nearly a year later, it’s unclear if Spoon have put the finishing touches on their 10th studio album.

Funky monkeys: Chimps spotted making a ‘conga line’

December 12, 2019 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

A dancing monkey trained by humans is no surprise to the scientific community. But for what may be the first time, psychologists have observed two chimpanzees cutting a rug without human prompting, in closely synchronized movement that resembled a conga line.

“Here, we present the first evidence for co-synced rhythmic entrainment between two great apes in a naturalistic environment,” University of Warwick researchers wrote in an article published Wednesday in the journal Scientific Reports .

This was no simple two-step. The researchers found that the levels of motor coordination, synchronization and rhythm between the two female chimpanzees matched the levels of rhythm shown by orchestra players who perform together.

“Dance is an icon of human expression. Despite astounding diversity around the world’s cultures and dazzling abundance of reminiscent animal systems, the evolution of dance in the human clade remains obscure,” Adriano Lameira, one of the University of Warwick researchers, said in a statement .

The researchers say this evidence of synced and rhythmic movement in great apes could help scientists discover the origins of human dance.

Tesla Shuts Down Production Line Due to Microchip Shortage

February 25, 2021 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Elon Musk’s electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has reportedly shut down a Model 3 production line at its Fremont, California, factory for two weeks amid an industrywide microchip shortage.

Bloomberg reports that Tesla is shutting down a Model 3 production line at its production plant in Fremont, California, for two weeks amid an industrywide microchip shortage. Tesla reportedly informed employees from a Model 3 production line that their line will be shut down until March 7.

Bloomberg states that employees were told they would be paid for February 22 and 23, and not paid for February 28 through March 3. They were reportedly advised to take vacation time if they had it.

The employees were reportedly not informed of the reason behind the shutdown which so far has been unconfirmed. A component shortage appears to be the most likely explanation; Tesla’s vehicles are comprised of about 10,000 parts and if one of these is in shortage, the car is not produced.

The global auto industry is dealing with a shortage of microchips which has resulted in many vehicle production lines behind halted around the world. GM, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, Suburu, and Fiat Chrysler have all announced halted or slowed production lines due to the problem.

In a 10-K filing with the SEC earlier this month, Tesla noted the shortage but stated it didn’t know yet how it would impact the firm, writing:

For example, a global shortage of microchips has been reported since early 2021, and the impact to us is yet unknown. The unavailability of any component or supplier could result in production delays, idle manufacturing facilities, product design changes and loss of access to important technology and tools for producing and supporting our products. Moreover, significant increases in our production, such as for Model 3 and Model Y, or product design changes by us have required and may in the future require us to procure additional components in a short amount of time.

While the global average download speed for mobile broadband internet is 24.40 Mbps (megabit per second), India lagged at an average download speed of 9.93 Mbps. On the other hand the global average download speed for fixed line broadband is 52.16 Mbps and for India it is 26.46 Mbps.

When compared to beginning of 2018, India had ranked 109th for mobile internet speeds and 67th for fixed broadband, according to the same test report data in February. The average mobile internet download speed climbed from 9.01 Mbps in February from 8.80 Mbps in November last year and now it is at 9.93 Mbps. As far as fixed line broadband is concerned, the average speed increased from 20.72 Mbps in February 2018 to 26.46 Mbps in November 2018.

The Speedtest Global Index compares internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis. Data for this test comes from the tests taken by real people using the Speedtest platform every month. The report only includes countries with more than 3,333 unique user test results for fixed broadband and more than 670 unique user test results for mobile in the reported month.

Meanwhile, smartphone users in India are expected to double by 2022 to 829 million from 404.1 million in 2017, according to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index (VNI). The index predicted that 60% of the Indian population which is 840 million will be internet users by 2022, up from 27% of the population (357 million) in 2017. Also, smart devices will propel India’s per capita traffic consumption to nearly 14 gigabytes by 2022 from 2.4 gigabytes in 2017.
