Malaysia focuses on three issues to become high-income nation by 2026

March 20, 2023 by en.vietnamplus.vn Leave a Comment

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian Government will focus on three main issues this year to achieve high-income nation status by 2026, including fiscal strengthening by focusing on increasing revenue and spending rationalisation.

According to the country’s Ministry of Economy, Malaysia will identify new sources of growth including high-tech industries and prioritise digitisation such as electrics and electronics, aerospace, smart agriculture and biomass and reform the economic structure towards a higher value chain.

The ministry said that the country’s government will identify new sources of growth including high-tech industries and prioritise digitisation such as electricity and electronics, aerospace, smart agriculture and biomass, along with reforming the economic structure towards a higher value chain.

It will also focus on developing an economy based on the service sector, empowering micro, small and medium enterprises and encouraging research, development, commercialisation and innovation.

The gross national income (GNI) per capita at current prices will increase from 42,823RM (9,546 USD) in 2020 to 52,819RM (11,775 USD) in 2022, the ministry said in a written response published on the parliament on March 17.

The ministry said the country’s economic model needs to be adapted to the current situation and emphasis should be placed on reforming the economic structure towards a higher value chain to strengthen growth in all sectors.

Economic resources will be focused on building Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology capabilities that are capable of supporting the expansion and optimisation of 4IR technologies, namely artificial intelligence, internet of things, blockchain, cloud computing and big data analytics as well as advanced materials and technologies.

It said the government would also emphasise potential sources of growth such as tourism-related sectors as well as agriculture and commodity-based sectors.

Malaysia still has a gap of 9.1% to reach the level of a high-income nation .

The minimum GNI per capita threshold set by the World Bank is 13,206 USD in 2021 and preliminary reviews show that Malaysia is expected to reach high-income nation status between 2025 and 2026, it added./.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Monday said it has successfully printed over 60 million physical and virtual national identification cards (IDs) under the implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

In a statement, PSA said that a total of 60,326,990 IDs have been printed — 33,550,575 of which are PhilIDs dispatched for delivery to registered persons, while 26,776,415 are ePhilIDs printed at registration centers.

“Reaching 60 million national IDs printed brings us closer to fully realizing the envisioned benefits of PhilSys of making more services accessible,” said PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa.

“That’s why our coordination with government agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) centers on using PhilSys to support the implementation of social protection programs. Gusto namin na ngayon pa lang, maunawaan na ng ating mga beneficiaries ang kahalagahan ng PhilSys sa pagiging mas accessible ng iba’t-ibang serbisyo ng ating pamahalaan,” he added.

The PSA then said that it continues to push the Philippine Post Office to speed up the delivery of IDs, even implementing the downloading of password-protected ePhilIDs via mobile devices — which registered persons may access once they receive an SMS notification from PSA.

Both the PhilID and ePhilID bear a QR code that can be used for easier identity verification and authentication, as opposed to more traditional methods involving handwritten signatures which can be easily forged.

March 20, 2023 by news.abplive.com Leave a Comment

An official said that at least 10 flights were diverted on Monday owing to severe weather at the Delhi airport, news agency PTI reported.

The flights were rerouted to Lucknow and Jaipur.

According to an airport spokesman, between 5 and 5.30 pm, eight planes were diverted to Jaipur and three to Lucknow due to inclement weather.

Delhi Weather Update

On Monday, heavy rain and high winds pummelling parts of Delhi.

Earlier in the day, beautiful weather prevailed in Delhi, with the highest temperature reaching 27.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees lower than the season’s average.

The minimum temperature was 17.4 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat higher than average. Humidity levels varied from 48 to 94 percent.

The 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi was 154 at 4 pm, falling into the “moderate” category.

Good air quality is defined as having an AQI of 0 to 50, tolerable air quality as 51 to 100, moderate air quality as 101 to 200, poor air quality as 201 to 300, extremely bad air quality as 301 to 400, and severe air quality as 401 to 500.

SAFAR, the government’s air quality forecasting organisation, predicts that moderate surface breezes would likely keep dispersion and air quality stable. “Overall air quality is likely to be within ‘moderate’ or ‘upper end of satisfactory’ for the next three days due to moderate dispersion by surface wind speed as well as wash out by likely rain spells,” it said.

Earlier on Sunday, cloudy weather continued for a second day in the national capital and adjoining areas and the weather department had predicted light intensity rain/drizzle in Delhi and the National Capital Region whereas thunderstorm with light-intensity rain had been forecast over and adjoining areas of Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

“Light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Delhi, New Delhi, South-West Delhi (Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport), NCR ( Gurugram, Manesar) Hansi, Meham, Rohtak, Sohana (Haryana) Nandgaon, Barsana. Thunderstorms with light-intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Agra (U.P.) during the next 2 hours,” said the MeT department in a statement.

Korea’s National Pension Service may own Credit Suisse bonds

March 20, 2023 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com Leave a Comment

Korea’s pension held 135.9 billion won of Credit Suisse bonds as of late last year, according to data the NPS provided to lawmaker Cho Hye-young. The figure is 0.21 percent of all overseas bonds held by the NPS.

“The fund manager decides where to invest the funds,” the NPS said. “But we are actively communicating with them in reflection of the seriousness of the issue.”

Credit Suisse, a 167-year-old bank and the second-largest lender in Switzerland, will be consumed by UBS with the support of the Swiss National Bank for around $3.2 billion.

Credit Suisse has been struggling for years. In 2022, it recorded its worst loss since the global financial crisis. Last week, investor confidence collapsed after it acknowledged “material weakness” in its bookkeeping. The collapse of U.S. banks, including Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), exacerbated the fears.

The NPS, the world’s third-largest pension fund, was also holding onto the securities of other financial institutions that have failed.

The pension fund held 138.9 billion won of SVB shares and bonds, and 3.5 billion won in Signature Bank as of late last year.
