Man Utd takeover: Thomas Zilliacus shares grand plans as billionaire hopes for Qatar deal

Ten Hag gives update on Rashford ahead of Newcastle v Man Utd

Thomas Zilliacus has previously admitted that he would be interested in partnering with Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family. But he is also confident he can bring something different to the table if his fan-focused bid succeeds.

Zilliacus wants to hand one of the world’s largest fanbases power to contribute to the club’s decision-making process using technology, the source of his fortune.

The Finnish entrepreneur has made it known he is willing to team up with Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe to end the Glazers’ 18-year tenure as United owners.

But he has also laid out his grand plans for if his individual takeover attempt is successful, putting fans at the heart of the club.

“My bid for the club doesn’t involve fans buying shares to help me finance the deal,” Zilliacus explained.

“First of all, I will buy the club with the help of other interested investors, and the next step would be to offer shares to supporters.

“I want to get to a stage when the fans own 49 per cent of the club and will have a voice in the way we operate.

“Let me clarify, the fans won’t decide which players get picked every Saturday, but they will be involved in the more philosophical policies.

“I won’t be shy about my aspirations. It is my intention to run the club in a profitable way.

“But it is only right that the supporters have an influence on how the club’s money is spent.

“Are dividends paid out to shareholders? Should the money be used for play acquisitions or to upgrade the stadium?

“The executives who run the club would never make a decision that goes against what the majority of the fans want.”

Zilliacus accepts that he is the outsider in the running to buy United but insists that he’s an expert in his field and has even shared one of his fan-focused ideas.

“I have already spoken to my tech team about United – and there are so many new and exciting possibilities that would open the club up to supporters in Singapore or Nigeria, or the United States.

“They would participate in a fan experience like no other. It would be like they are actually inside Old Trafford or watching the squad train. They would be able to interact with the players.

“If you have half a billion fans and you charge them $3 for an annual subscription, that equates to $1.5billion that would go straight into the club.

“I’m not an Arab Sheikh, nor am I the richest man in the UK, but I am an expert in my chosen field, and I understand the possibilities. And that is just one idea I have.”

Thomas Tuchel reveals he was sacked by Chelsea in ‘three to five-minute’ meeting

March 31, 2023 by metro.co.uk Leave a Comment

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he found out he was sacked by Chelsea in a ‘shock’ meeting the lasted just a few minutes.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

Tuchel was dismissed by Todd Boehly last September – just over a year after he had won the Champions League for the Blues – and replaced the next day by Graham Potter

Though his side had started the season poorly, many felt his sacking to be harsh and speaking to reporters on Friday, the German admitted he was still ‘hurt’ by the matter .

He has now gone into further detail about what went down at Stamford Bridge and revealed that he was relieved of his duties in a short meeting with the chairman.

‘It was a shock. I felt it, strangely, when I drove to the training centre,’ Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference ahead of his Bayern debut on Saturday.

‘The meeting we had felt unusual – and it turned out to be a very short meeting. It was 8am, or something, and it lasted three to five minutes. I was also not in the mood to talk longer.

‘The decision had been made and, honestly, it was a shock for all of us. We had a feeling that we were in the right spot at the right time.

‘We felt that we could achieve big things and we wanted to stay longer – it was as simple as that.’

At Bayern, Tuchel replaces Julian Nagelsmann who was himself shockingly sacked last week despite the club still being in contention for a treble of trophies.

35-year-old Nagelsmann is now the leading contender to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham after the Italian too left his role during the international break.

As for Tuchel, he could not have been handed a more difficult start to his Bayern career as he comes up against his former club and Munich’s arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund.

This match could well decide the Bundesliga title with Dortmund one point ahead of Bayern at the top of the table with just nine games left to go.

Trump-appointed judge deals blow to Republicans’ drag ban

April 1, 2023 by www.newsweek.com Leave a Comment

A judge appointed by former President Donald Trump dealt a blow to Tennessee Republicans ‘ new law that would effectively ban public drag performances just hours before it was set to go into effect.

Last month, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed into a law legislation that would ban “adult cabaret entertainment” in public areas that can be viewed by minors, making it the first state to criminalize some drag performances. The law applies to a wide array of performers including “go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators or similar entertainers,” but has made headlines for its emphasis on drag queens.

The law was passed amid conservatives’ nationwide push for restrictions regarding LGBTQ+ rights , specifically for transgender individuals and drag queens. Republicans argue these laws are necessary to protect children. Critics, however, call attention to the lack of data to back up concerns that drag queens pose a threat to children, viewing the legislation as unfairly targeting the LGBTQ+ community.

However, Republicans’ attempt to ban drag performances in Tennessee hit its latest roadblock on Friday, when Judge Thomas Parker temporarily halted the law, just hours before it was set to go into effect on Saturday.

Parker, who serves as a judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, ruled against Republicans in a 15-page ruling. He was appointed by Trump, who has voiced support for policies restricting LGBTQ+ rights in the past.

Parker sided with a Memphis-based LGBTQ+ theater organization Friends of George’s that filed a lawsuit challenging the new law last week. The temporary halt will last for at least two weeks, according to The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis daily newspaper.

Parker pointed to his concerns about the law infringing on the United States Constitution.

He wrote that while states are “laboratories of democracy” that can “test laws and policies enacted by The People,” these laws still have “constraints” from the U.S. Constitution, which in the First Amendment prohibits lawmakers from passing bills restricting the freedom of speech.

“The United States Constitution—a law that is supreme even to the Tennessee General Assembly’s acts—has placed some issues beyond the reach of the democratic process,” Parker wrote. “First among them is the freedom of speech.”

Parker continued: “If Tennessee wishes to exercise its police power in restricting speech it considers obscene, it must do so within the constraints and framework of the United States Constitution. The Court finds that, as it stands, the record here suggests that when the legislature passed this Statute, it missed the mark.”

He also raised concerns about the vagueness of the law.

“A law is unconstitutionally vague if individuals of ‘common intelligence must necessarily guess at its meaning and differ as to its application,'” he wrote.

Meanwhile, other Republican-led state legislatures have put forward bills that have been criticized as targeting the LGBTQ+ community. Kentucky has also introduced a bill that would crack down on drag shows . According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), at least 435 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the country.

Newsweek reached out to the Tennessee Republican Party for comment via email.

Olivia’s killer ‘to die behind bars’ as gang members will ‘grass on him’ if released

April 1, 2023 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

CCTV footage of Thomas Cashman shooting victim

The killer of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel may never be released because the underworld’s disgust at his crime will encourage gangsters to inform against him, sources insist.

Thomas Cashman, who will receive a life sentence on Monday, has little information to trade with police because most of the crime syndicate he was involved with are already behind bars.

A more likely outcome is that gangland members will turn on him – handing police information that could see him investigated for more offences, one source said.

Cashman could have been involved in at least three unsolved gangland murders in the Liverpool area from 2010 to 2016, according to several sources.

In 2013 he was arrested as a suspect during the investigation of one of the unsolved cases, the execution of Karl Bradley. He was never charged but his name was also “in the mix” for two other killings.

All three victims were shot at close range near to their homes. Cashman, 34, was not charged with any of the murders.

He was so notorious in the area as a suspected hitman that within days of Olivia’s murder he was named in a YouTube podcast as chief suspect, leading to Merseyside Police writing a cease and desist letter to the YouTuber, who then removed the video.

Cashman was found guilty of Olivia’s murder, the attempted murder of Joseph Nee, 35, of wounding Olivia’s mum Cheryl Korbel and of possessing firearms with intent to endanger life. He will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.

Olivia was killed and her mum injured as Cashman fired into their home after Nee ran into it on August 22 last year.

Cashman is understood to have been hired to kill Nee by a Merseyside-based top-tier crime group with international connections and involved in class A drug importation and supply. They suspected Nee was involved in a plot to steal a shipment of their drugs.

There has been speculation that Cashman could try to offer information on those above him in the crime group in order to secure a release at some stage in his latter years.

One gangland source said: “The problem with that theory is that most of the top men in that firm based in Liverpool are in custody, facing trial on a major drug job. There’s not a lot Cashman could tell police about them they don’t already know.

“The others are in Dubai and Spain, so he won’t have much on them.

“The police won’t have much appetite for a deal with him anyway, because of what he has done.”

Another underworld source from Merseyside said that Cashman is seen as a “rat” for killing a little girl.

“He didn’t mean to do it but once you’re a child killer, that’s it. He should have just told the truth,” he said.

Another source said: “It is more likely that now he is banged up for good, people will be grassing on him, not the other way round. There’s a few other murders they say he is connected to and they will be less scared to give him up.”

The force was asked if it will be reviewing any of the murders following Cashman’s conviction. A spokeswoman said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on specific cases and murders which are undetected.

“However, our serious case review unit regularly reviews unsolved homicides to identify new information or opportunities that may assist the investigation in identifying those responsible.”

It is feared there could be more gang violence across the city due to a power vacuum left by the removal of many of the group aligned with Cashman.

After a period of relative calm, five gun murders – including Olivia’s – happened in five months from August.

Two weapons were seized during raids in Liverpool last month.

Licensed owners have been urged to improve how guns are secured and stored, as it is feared burglaries are one way firearms are getting into criminal’s hands.

Trending

A review of licensed gun holders across the north-west region carried out by Merseyside Police found 200 guns were stolen in the past three years. The findings have been shared with the National Crime Agency and forces across the country.

There are also fears that the war in Ukraine could lead to more firearms on Britain’s streets.

Paul James, who founded the National Ballistics Intelligence Service, said the Balkans conflict had historically been a main source of guns being trafficked into Europe and on to the UK.

The current fighting in Ukraine could be an even larger threat, he said.

“The risk from Ukraine is equally as big, if not bigger, because of the number of weapons that are actually being issued and probably not being registered, so I do think there is a real risk.”
