Pencak silat team brings home medal shower for Vietnam at 2018 Asian Games

August 30, 2018 by tuoitrenews.vn Leave a Comment

The Vietnamese pencak silat team has enjoyed a fruitful medal hunt at the 2018 Asian Games (Asiad), with two fighters snatching one gold each in overwhelming victories, and three others claiming silvers in Indonesia on Wednesday.

When Vietnamese sports lovers were upset by their beloved team’s 1-3 defeat against South Korea in the men’s football semifinals, pencak silat martial artists Nguyen Van Tri and Tran Dinh Nam helped brighten up their mood as they snatched two golds in the men’s 90-95kg and 70-75kg events, respectively.

Both the Vietnamese athletes claimed a convincing 5-0 triumph in their respective final matches against two Malaysian opponents, Yaacob Mohd Khaizul and Khalid Mohd Fauzi.

Tri and Nam helped the Vietnamese sport delegation overshoot their goal of bringing home at least three gold medals, with at least one in an Olympic sport, from the Games.

The other gold medalists of Team Vietnam are the female rowing team and long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao. Both rowing and the long jump are Olympic sports.

Earlier on Wednesday, the pencak silat martial artists added a silver medal to Vietnam’s tally as Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Nguyen Thi Huyen and Vuong Thi Binh finished second in the women’s team final with 464 points, just two points behind the Indonesian champions.

Vietnamese and Indonesian athletes also clashed for the gold medal in two other events, man’s class C 55-60kg and women’s class B 50-55kg, on the afternoon of the same day, with Nguyen Thai Linh and Tran Thi Them both losing to their host contenders.

Team Vietnam was scheduled to compete in athletics, Judo, Kurash, table tennis, volleyball, canoeing and serak takraw on Thursday.

Vietnam stood at the 13th place in the medal tally, with four golds, 15 silvers and 13 bronzes as of Thursday morning, three days before the 2018 Asian Games comes to an end.

The 2018 Asian Games takes place in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2 with the theme “Energy of Asia.”

Vietnam’s sports delegation to the Games consists of 532 members, including 352 athletes.

David Cameron lobbying: Government adviser David Brierwood became Greensill director months after taking Whitehall role

April 16, 2021 by news.sky.com Leave a Comment

A government adviser became a director of Greensill Capital months after taking on his Cabinet Office role – in the latest link between the now-collapsed finance firm and Whitehall to emerge.

David Brierwood, a former employee of the Morgan Stanley investment bank, was appointed as a crown representative by the Cabinet Office under David Cameron’s tenure as prime minister.

According to his Linkedin profile, Mr Brierwood took on the role in October 2014 until June 2018.

In January 2015, according to Companies House records, Mr Brierwood also became a director of Greensill Capital – the firm at the centre of a lobbying row involving Mr Cameron .

The government website states crown representatives are a “network to act as a focal point for particular groups of providers looking to supply to the public sector”.

They are said to help the government to act as a single customer and work across Whitehall departments to “identify areas for cost savings” and “act as a point of focus for cross-cutting supplier-related issues”.

Crown representatives are understood to be paid for their work.

Lex Greensill , the founder of Greensill Capital, was previously announced as a crown representative in March 2014.

At that point, Mr Greensill had already been working as a government adviser after being brought in by senior civil servant Jeremy Heywood, with the pair having been former colleagues at Morgan Stanley.

According to Mr Brierwood’s Linkedin profile, he was also deputy chairman of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra between June 2014 and November 2019.

Mr Greensill was a trustee of the London-based Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra at a similar time, with Greensill Capital their corporate partner.

A number of inquiries – including one ordered by Prime Minister Boris Johnson – have this week been launched at Westminster into the government’s use of supply chain finance schemes and the role of Mr Greensill and Greensill Capital.

In 2018, Greensill Capital took over a supply chain finance scheme for NHS pharmacies – a programme said to have been the idea of Mr Greensill while he had a government advisory role.

Mr Cameron was employed by Greensill Capital after he quit as prime minister, since when he has been revealed to have lobbied current government ministers and officials on behalf of the firm.

This includes trying to secure access for Greensill Capital – via text messages to Chancellor Rishi Sunak – to government-backed financial support schemes during the coronavirus crisis.

In March this year, Greensill Capital filed for insolvency with the company’s demise threatening thousands of jobs in the UK steel industry, as the firm was a major financier of Liberty Steel’s owner GFG Alliance.

Mr Johnson was understood to be “concerned” this week when it emerged the former head of Whitehall procurement – Bill Crothers – became an adviser to Greensill Capital while still working as a civil servant, in a move approved by the Cabinet Office.

Mr Crothers subsequently became a director at Greensill after leaving the civil service.

He himself is a former crown representative and, according to reports at the time, was dubbed “chief crown rep” when he became the Cabinet Office’s executive director of commercial relationships in 2012.

In 2014, Mr Crothers created the Crown Commercial Service under which the crown representatives network went on to sit within.

A Cabinet Office spokesperson said: “Crown representatives do not participate in the procurement process nor are they able to award any contracts.

“They are part time senior executives recruited for their working knowledge of a sector to help ensure value for money for the taxpayer.

“All crown representatives go through regular propriety checks and cannot work with a supplier where there could be a conflict of interest.

“Mr Brierwood’s crown representative role was not anything to do with supply chain finance.”

Sky News has attempted to contact Mr Brierwood through RIMES Technologies, where he is listed as chairman of the board.

Where is St George’s Chapel?

April 16, 2021 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

THE DUKE of Edinburgh will get his dying wish of a small “no-fuss” military funeral, with just 30 mourners at the Windsor service, instead of a State funeral.

Prince Philip’s funeral will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2021, and will end with the Duke’s body being taken to lie in the Royal Vault within St George’s chapel.

Where is St George’s Chapel?

St George’s Chapel is situated on the grounds of Windsor Castle – where the Queen and Prince Philip live for most of the year.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles had their televised blessing there in 2005, while it offers the couple a more low key venue than Westminster Abbey – where Prince William and Kate Middleton wed.

St George’s Chapel can accommodate 800 guests, whereas the Abbey seats 2,000.

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also took place at St George’s Chapel in 2018.

Another Royal wedding followed shortly afterwards, that of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in 2019.

How old is St George’s Chapel?

The gothic-style chapel is located in the lower ward of Windsor Castle.

St. George’s castle chapel was originally founded in the 14th century by King Edward III, in 1475.

It was completed in 1511 and has been the location of many royal services, including weddings and burials.

Can you get married at St George’s Chapel?

Although you don’t have to be a royal to get married at St George’s, we’re afraid there’s a very limited list of people who can wed there.

The chapel is both a Royal Peculiar, which means it’s governed by the monarch and a chapel of the Order of the Garter.

Unlike parish churches, not just anyone can apply to get married there.

Among those who CAN marry at the church are knights, residents of Windsor Castle, and residents of the College of St George – and the royals, of course.

What other services are held there?

St George’s Chapel is a working church and has daily services.

It is open every day but it is closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day.

The church also closes earlier than the rest of the castle in order to prepare for the evening service.

St George’s Chapel is open to the public and worshippers are welcome to attend the services.

Paul Chuckle oozes cool in leather jacket as he shows off custom licence plate

April 16, 2021 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Paul Chuckle was giving off bad boy vibes as he showed off his custom licence plate.

One-half of The Chuckle Brothers oozed cool as he rocked a leather jacket and an all-black outfit.

His ensemble was completed with sunglasses, and the only thing missing was a motorcycle.

Instead, he leaned on his black Land Rover which was emblazoned with the licence plate: “2 Me 2 You.”

He shared the image to Twitter and simply captioned it with a smiling face wearing sunglasses emoji.

Brands like Specsavers and Burger King were quick to comment on the photo.

“Can you be in all of our adverts for the rest of eternity please,” Specsavers posted.

Meanwhile, the fast-food company Burger King wrote: “Can’t wait to see that whip in the drive-thru.”

One fan felt the need to discuss the legitimacy of the licence plate and commented: “Funny gag Paul but to everyone wondering, no it is not a real plate.”

Two days later, the 73-year-old hung up his leather jacket to take a Covid-19 test.

The comedian shared a snap of himself looking rather concerned as he held up the swab for the camera.

“No-one said which end to use, #Covid19SelfTest .. got to do it all again,” he tweeted.

Earlier this year, Paul suggested to fans that Chuckle Brothers could be making a comeback.

His brother, Barry, died aged 73 in August 2018 after a short illness.

Devastated fans have expressed their wishes the Chuckle Brothers were still on TV to entertain children, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

He told Yorkshire Live : “The Chuckle Brothers have lived on. It is quite overwhelming really because I constantly get lots of lovely messages, thousands of social media followers and I get stopped in the street all the time – social distancing considered.”

He added: “Well, we can’t bring Barry back – I wish we could – but we are going to be doing all our daft things in a different way. Especially during this Covid pandemic I have had loads of people saying that they wish we were still on the telly to entertain the kids. So do I and that’s why we are doing something about it.”

Towie’s Chloe Brockett suspended for breaking lockdown to ‘meet Jack Fincham’

April 16, 2021 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Chloe Brockett was suspended from Towie after breaking lockdown rules by reportedly meeting up with her rumoured boyfriend Jack Fincham .

The telly star, 20, is believed to have visited Jack in the garden of his home in Kent before lockdown rules were eased, and they were not in a bubble together.

Chloe was “reminded of the guidelines” by Towie bosses three weeks ago and was ordered to stay away from set until she could provide a negative Covid test.

A spokesperson for Lime Pictures, the production company behind Towie, told The Mirror: “A member of our cast was reminded of the guidelines three weeks ago after appearing to visit the garden of someone not in their bubble.

“Consequently they were not permitted to continue filming until providing negative Covid-19 results.”

A source added to Mail Online: “Chloe broke coronavirus rules by going to Jack’s house, so TOWIE had to suspend her…

“Chloe knew she had let the team down but she’s so infatuated by Jack, she couldn’t resist travelling from Essex to Kent to see him.”

Chloe and Jack were first linked back in 2019, but they are rumoured to have grown close during lockdown.

They have yet to comment on the romance rumours, but the Towie star did recently admit there’s a new man in her life.

In a post on Instagram earlier this month, she explained: “Yes, I am dating someone. I get asked this question quite a lot, but yes I am dating someone.”

She’s believed to have returned to work now and told fans she was filming for the show this week.

It’s been a busy week for Chloe as well as being back at work, she’s also managed to get a hair cut after months of salon closures and head out on a shopping spree.

Chloe joined Towie back in 2019 and was lined up as a love interest for Harry Lee, but the romance didn’t last.

Jack dated fellow Love Island winner Dani Dyer after winning the show together in 2018, but they parted ways in 2019.

He went on to become a dad to a daughter named Blossom with ex Casey Ranger, and Dani welcomed a little boy, Santiago, with her boyfriend Sammy Kimmence in January.

The Mirror has contacted representative for Lime Pictures for comment.
