Sen. Ted Cruz: The best thing to ever happen for cartels was Biden becoming president

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz discusses the crisis at the southern border as Sen. Roger Marshall introduced a resolution to designate the flood of illegal border crossings as an invasion.

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas , is introducing legislation that would bar schools and colleges that receive federal funding from being used to house illegal immigrants – amid concerns over school buildings being used by sanctuary cities as part of the effort to tackle the ongoing migrant crisis.

Cruz is introducing the Senate version of The Schools Not Shelters Act, which would bar K-12 schools, colleges and universities that receive federal funds from sheltering illegal immigrants – and would bar funding from going to them if they do.

The bill makes exceptions for natural disaster response, such as for hurricanes and floods.

The bill was introduced in the House by Rep. Marc Molinaro, R-NY , earlier this year and passed the House with four Democrats supporting in July.

Housing migrants in schools became a hot political issue particularly in New York this year, as New York City struggled to deal with a surge of migrants into the interior. The sanctuary city has seen over 110,000 migrants hit the city since last year. Officials there and elsewhere have called for more federal action and declared themselves overwhelmed by the numbers they are seeing, even though they are just a fraction of the numbers being seen at the border itself.

NYC officials eventually shut down its plan in May to house migrants in school gyms amid massive public pressure, but has still been scrambling to deal with the surge since then — including where to house new arrivals.

The Schools Not Shelters Act by Fox News on Scribd

“The invasion at our southern border is straining local services, overwhelming hospitals, and overcrowding schools. To make matters worse, leftist sanctuary cities are even using K-12 schools and college campuses as housing for illegal aliens,” Cruz said in a statement.

“Instead of addressing the learning loss caused by Democrat COVID lockdowns, sanctuary cities are focused on diverting resources from students to house illegal aliens. Students are losing access to gyms, dorms, and other school facilities in order to accommodate illegal aliens. Housing unvetted, potentially dangerous illegal aliens in schools is a recipe for disaster,” he said.

Co-sponsors on the bill include Sens. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Ted Budd, R-N.C., Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., and Tom Cotton, R-Ga.

“Students should feel safe and be prioritized while at school, and my bill reverses these terrible Democrat policies that have put illegal aliens ahead of students. I call on Senator [Chuck] Schumer to listen to New York parents and bring this bill to the Floor for a vote,” Cruz said.

The bill comes as the U.S. is again seeing a surge in migrant crossings at the southern border. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced last week that there were more than 230,000 migrant encounters in August — making it the highest August on record.

Meanwhile this week, there have been multiple days when agents have encountered around 11,000 migrants, exceeding the record highs seen before the end of the Title 42 public health order in May.

UK manufacturers set strict new EV targets to meet Rishi Sunak’s petrol and diesel car ban

Sunak compares UK’s climate change record to other countries

Manufacturers will have to battle the “most ambitious” electric vehicle framework in the world to meet Rishi Sunak’s petrol and diesel car ban, the Government has confirmed.

UK brands must ensure almost a quarter of cars produced in their factories emit no emissions by the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, a staggering 80 percent of new cars sold need to be fully electric by 2030, slowly increasing to 100 percent by 2035.

The news slightly dilutes the previous Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV) mandate guidelines which would have banned combustion models by 2030.

The Department for Transport made the new ZEV mandate changes a week after Mr Sunak delayed the petrol and diesel ban to 2035.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the new updates had provided “certainty” for business and offered a “realistic” timeframe for families to plan towards.

He explained: “The path to zero emission vehicles announced today makes sure the route to get there is proportionate, pragmatic, and realistic for families.

“Our mandate provides certainty for manufacturers, benefits drivers by providing more options, and helps grow the economy by creating skilled jobs.”

Manufacturers who fail to meet the targets are expected to be fined with bills of £15,000 per car previously touted.

However, companies can benefit from a flexible trading scheme to ensure they do not go over the restrictions.

EV drivers’ satisfaction survey

EV drivers have reported more than 90% satisfaction in their choice of an electric vehicle when compared with their previous petrol or diesel car, according to a new survey. More than 5,000 drivers were asked by car-leasing firm Tusker with 359 non-EV Tusker drivers, 1,549 Tusker EV drivers and 3,176 drivers who are not Tusker customers.

92% of Tusker’s EV drivers were satisfied with the driving experience, with 81% of EV drivers overall reporting that the experience was preferable to that of their previous petrol or diesel car. Salary sacrifice has helped get more people into an EV, with price and available savings being given as the top reasons for choosing a car on the scheme, followed by the inclusive package.

This will allow firms to bank compliance in years when they exceed their annual targets for use in future years.

They can also trade them with other manufacturers that have fallen short of their goals.

Mike Hawes, president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) claimed industry would welcome the news.

He remarked: “The automotive industry is investing billions in decarbonisation and recognises the importance of the zero emission vehicle mandate as the single most important measure to deliver net zero.

“We welcome the clarity the mandate’s publication provides for the next six years and the flexibilities it contains to support pragmatic, equitable delivery across this diverse sector.

“Manufacturers offer a vast range of zero emission vehicles, but demand must also match supply – that means making ZEVs affordable by incentivising drivers to make the switch now and delivering the infrastructure to meet consumer expectations.”

Trending

Companies have already made progress with SMMT data revealing that 20 percent of new cars sold in August were zero emission.

Meanwhile, some firms have taken it into their own hands with Nissan admitting this week they would stick with the previous 2030 target.

Jakob Pfaudler, AA CEO, added: “Today’s announcement brings welcome clarity to help support investment in ZEVs and associated technologies and industries.

“Over time, and as part of a wider set of policies, it will help the UK’s motorists manage the transition and the AA will be working to give confidence to drivers during this period.”

Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025

We are edging closer towards this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix as Formula One returns after a week break, with many teams and drivers hoping to catch Red Bull and Max Verstappen at the top of the grid. Either Verstappen or Sergio Perez have won every single race so far this season, while the Dutchman won his 10th consecutive race last time out at the Italian GP.

The 25-year-old has never won in Singapore however, with perhaps a curse hanging over his head going into this weekend that may leave the door open for the likes of Lewis Hamilto n, Carlos Sainz or Lando Norris among others.

Hamilton especially will be desperate to pip Verstappen to help give Mercedes a boost as although they will have conceded this year’s title, the Silver Arrows will be preparing for next season after the seven-time world champion recently committed his future to the team with a new contract.

There have been calls for Hamilton’s first F1 title to be overturned though as former rival Felipe Massa has begun a legal challenge regarding the 2008 championship, which Hamilton one by one point amid ‘Crashgate’ that the Brazilian is questioning. Should Hamilton be stripped of that victory, he will want to ensure that he remains alongside Michael Schumacher at the top of the most championships in F1 history – currently the pair have seven each.

Schumacher himself has been told that his first F1 title should not count too, as his friend and journalist Roger Benoit admitted that he considers the legend to be a six-time champion after his controversial 1994 win.

Bottas ‘feeling himself’ at Alpha

Valtteri Bottas has conceded to feeling “100 percent” himself since joining Alfa Romeo, and that he is no longer playing a role in the wake of leaving Mercedes.

Following his release from Mercedes at the end of 2021, after helping the team to five constructors’ titles and scoring 10 grand prix victories during his five years with the team, Bottas pitched up at Alfa Romeo at the start of last season.

Speaking in an interview with Speedcafe , he said: “It’s fair to say.

“They let me play around a bit bit more, and they respect that if that’s what I want to do, and if it’s good for me, then go on.

“I think age, and being longer in the sport as well, affects it but I definitely feel 100% myself, and I don’t need to play any role, which is nice.”

Schumacher ‘deserves’ to be on grid

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has noted that his young German starlet Mick Schumacher should be on the F1 grid in 2024.

The interesting comments come amid Wolff planning for the future, and giving fans what they can expect from Mercedes in the coming years.

Without a seat for 2023, Mercedes picked Schumacher up as their reserve driver, where he has spent the season at his father’s former team, learning from seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and team-mate George Russell.

He deserves to be on the grid,” Wolff told AutoHebdo.

“When you don’t feel confident in a car for a long time, you put more pressure on yourself and perform less well. I think that’s what happened at Haas.

“He is fast. If you win F3 and F2, it means you have great potential, and he has never been able to show it.”

Massa told Hamilton title overturn unlikely

Felipe Massa has been warned that his legal case attempting to overturn the result of the 2008 F1 championship is unlikely.

Le Mans category winner Richard Bradley has insisted that there is “no way” that Lewis Hamilton’s controversial title will be taken away over ‘Crashgate’.

“I haven’t really looked too much into the details of it because there’s absolutely no way that you could ever change a championship result based on it, because there’s so many unknowns about it,” Bradley told the On Track GP Podcast .

“And then let’s talk about all the other ones. What about Abu Dhabi [2021], right? I mean, honestly, how far do you want to go into the looking glass?

“The problem is, then you need to say, ‘Okay, how do we know that Felipe wouldn’t have had a technical problem or crashed later in the race?’”

Verstappen interested by Singapore changes

Max Verstappen has revealed his intrigue at the changes made to the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix circuit.

Turns 16-19 have been replaced for 2023 by a flat-out blast, while the snaking under the grandstand is not possible in 2023 due to construction work taking place.

This will decrease lap times by approximately 20 seconds while also having a drastic effect on car set-up as teams cannot run as much downforce, but Verstappen is excited.

“I’m looking forward to the night race in Singapore, Marina Bay is a cool circuit,” he explained.

“This year it will be interesting to see how the revised track layout will impact the general behaviour and set up of the car, I think the lap times will be much quicker.

“Singapore is probably going to be the most challenging weekend out of the upcoming races as the stakes are heightened on a street circuit and the field is usually very close, not to mention the heat and humidity.

But Pirelli chief Mario Isola has now hinted that the trial period is over and the change could be made permanent , with Hamilton and Verstappen set to be let down.

Mike Krack makes Alpine dig

Aston Martin chief Mike Krack has taken a dig at Alpine after landing Fernando Alonso from their rivals in a move that has worked out this season.

Alonso has been competing at the top of the grid with regularity, but last season there were concerns at Alpine over his age – as his contract was not renewed.

Aston Martin quickly pounced, with Krack clearly delighted. “I can only say, that at the level he is working, age is just a number,” Krack told Motorsport.com .

“With the right discipline and motivation, he will perform without a problem.

“You see Valentino Rossi, for example, or you see tennis players like [Roger] Federer, they had a very long career. Maybe we have to change our mentality a little bit.”

“I think it’s good that Max gives his opinion,” Domenicali said. “But we can’t put the sport in the hands of the drivers, never.

Toto Wolff concerning admission

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has admitted that the team are unaware of how exactly to improve their 2024 car in order to compete with Red Bull.

Plans are already underway as Red Bull and Max Verstappen are coasting to victory this year, but Wolff has insisted that the way to bridge the gap is not totally clear.

“From where we are, we just need a step like McLaren and Aston Martin have achieved in one go, not a two-tenths upgrade but a five-tenths upgrade to get back into the game, so yes I think it is possible,” he told F1 .

“I think we have a few directions; if we would know it would be much easier. The car is very unpredictable and lacks grip, so plenty of things we need to tackle.

“We tend to think in F1 that there’s a silver bullet that will unlock everything. We just need to put all the components together to make them work together in the car, so not one thing I would call out.”

Fernando Alonso dig

Fernando Alonso has aimed a dig at some of Aston Martin’s rivals, having claimed that his team do not make as many mistakes as their competitors.

Alonso has enjoyed a strong season since moving to Aston Martin to be team-mates with Lance Stroll, having been impressed with the team’s lack of errors so far.

“I think we are doing the job of executing the maximum from the car,” Alonso said. “Sometimes unfortunately it’s ninth, sometimes it’s second.

“We are not doing mistakes. We are doing good strategy, good pit stops, not making big mistakes like some of our competitors, [like] they made at the beginning of the year.

“So we have a good gap in terms of points. But yeah, it’s getting closer, and even Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship, I think, is ahead of us now with this result. Let’s try to bounce back in Singapore.”

Mick Schumacher has insisted that he is ready to return to Formula 1 after spending the season as Mercedes’ reserve driver.

“I’m a racing driver,” he said. “All I want to do is win. But I have to come to terms with reality, keep going work with me, keep trying to have conversations and present myself.”

Vettel in contact with Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel has admitted that he is still in contact with the Red Bull team, as rumours of his return to racing continue to swirl.

Vettel retired at the end of last season but Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has already claimed that the four-time world champion could make a comeback.

Though the 36-year-old may have added fuel to the fire after lifting a lid on his conversations with members of Red Bull.

“One can only applaud,” Vettel told German TV. “The performance of the entire team, but especially that of Max [Verstappen], who does it so consistently every weekend, is great. It’s a level showing how far away the competition is.

“You have to acknowledge that and take the position that it’s great that we can watch.

Alonso makes damning Red Bull claim

Fernando Alonso has insisted that Max Verstappen and Red Bull are better in every single area than the remainder of the grid.

It is a strong warning to his F1 rivals, who have been unable to catch the Dutchman after winning the last 10 consecutive races – as Alonso feels that they are just too strong.

“I think both Red Bull and Max are connected this year,” he said. “They are outstanding in everything they do.

“Red Bull has the fastest car, are taking care of the tyres better than others. They have the best starts, they have the best pit stops. They are the best in every area that you could wish.

“The best top speed, the best low-speed performance, the best DRS delta. So there is not one single aspect of that car that can be matched at the moment for anyone.”

Ferrari boss blown away by Verstappen

Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur has admitted being gobsmacked at Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s performance this season.

The Dutchman has won 10 races in a row and alongside team-mate Sergio Perez, they have claimed victory in every single Grand Prix of the 2023 season.

Vasseur has singled out Verstappen for praise and his inability to make mistakes on the track.

“What is impressive is that, for sure, they [Red Bull] have always had mega pace,” Vasseur told Speedcafe . “From Monaco to Monza, covering all aspects of every track, they have performed.

“But what is most impressive for me is that Max – and not just in the last 10 races but over the last two years – hasn’t made a single mistake.

“For sure, it’s easier not to make a mistake when you have a margin over the others, but even in these kinds of circumstances, he is able to manage the situation very well.”

Leclerc theory raised

Former Williams team manager Peter Windsor has explained his Charles Leclerc theory as to why he is prone to more mistakes.

Windsor has claimed that the Ferrari driver’s motivation to be at the front at all costs leads him to make more mistakes than others on the grid.

“I am a Leclerc fan, you’ve got to understand I’m a Leclerc fan,” Windsor said on YouTube .

“Because Leclerc’s yardstick is racing with Max and to some extent, you know, Lewis at the front of a Grand Prix, when he’s not in that situation, he doesn’t really care that much about anything other than just trying to get back into the situation.

“That’s possibly why we see him making more mistakes and doing funny things, because he’s just desperate to get to where he wants to be.

“But in a car like a Ferrari, which is eating its tyres, relatively low downforce, they don’t seem to be able to generate very good downforce on high downforce circuits, and therefore that leads on to everything else, the bouncing, the kerb strike, the car changing over the fuel load, all those things.

“It’s a really difficult ask for a guy like Leclerc to be patient and bring the car home.”

Top 50 worst presents to receive – from cleaning products to car manuals

September 26, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Brits have shared the top 50 worst gifts they could possibly receive – including a diet plan, a bad romance novel, and even a car manual.

Other bad presents to unwrap on Christmas, birthdays, or other special occasions include cleaning products, new windscreen wipers, and a de-icer.

And soap on a string, potpourri, hankies, and a tie, also ranked among the top 10 things Brits would not be thankful to be gifted.

It emerged that almost two-thirds of adults (63%) receive as many as seven items each year as gifts, which they claim they will never use, according to a survey of 2,000 people.

And while partners, children, and mums are labelled the best at giving gifts, on the other end of the scale, in-laws, friends, and colleagues, are most likely to gift an unwanted item.

The research was commissioned by personalised book publishers, Wonderbly, who enable customers to create their own thoughtful gifts for children and adults.

A spokesman for the brand said: “Giving and receiving gifts is one of life’s little joys. There’s a great deal of emotion in gift giving – the perfect gift can leave someone speechless, while the wrong one can cause feelings of disappointment.”

Nearly two-thirds of Brits have received multiple gifts that they don’t want and won’t use (

When reacting to an unwanted present, 41% graciously accept it, while 18% pretend to be delighted – but more than a tenth (11%) show no emotion, and simply “do nothing”.

It also emerged that almost half (45%) don’t welcome clothing of any kind being selected for them by someone else.

However, not wanting them to go to waste, 34% donate their disappointing gifts to charity – while 15% adopt an “out of sight, out of mind” mantra by hiding them somewhere in the house.

And while a shameful 16% rewrap and regift to someone else, 13% said they have previously experienced this themselves.

When watching someone open a present they clearly don’t want, 22% are filled with disappointment, while a fifth feel anxious and awkward that the recipient is disappointed.

Nonetheless, 45% rate their gift giving skills as “pretty good” – with only 3% admitting they are “terrible”.

But Brits say money or gift vouchers are some of the top favourite presents to unwrap (

When it comes to great gifts, money, gift vouchers, and something which has been made by their children have been voted as some of the best.

When receiving these types of presents, 27% experience pure happiness, and exactly a quarter feel grateful.

The study, conducted via OnePoll.com, also found 85% prefer something that feels like a lot of thought has gone into it – with 58% agreeing personalised gifts mean more to people.

More than four in ten (42%) say these types of presents show that an extra level of effort has been made, and 24% believes it shows they care.

The spokesman for Wonderbly added: “Giving gifts a little more thought really goes a long way, and adding a touch of personalisation could mean the world to someone.

“Choosing a present for a friend or loved one can be really rewarding, and when you get it right, the gift will be treasured forever.”

‘I’m a futurist – I dream of the idyllic future when London is car-free’

September 28, 2023 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

However, whilst the topic is divisive all over the world, some cities have already began work to ban (Image: Cut the Bull)

A new study has found that a growing number of UK drivers think that London will be the world’s first car-free city.

The survey, conducted by the communications consultancy Cut the Bull, found that some members of the public believe the capital will ban cars from entering by 2050.

Dan Sodergren, a futurist, supports the idea that London should be car-less, thinking that it would benefit the environment and the health of residents.

He explained: “Like many, I dream of a future less dependent on automobiles. This societal shift promises not only to better our environment but also to redefine our urban spaces – think walkable pedestrian zones, extensive cycling paths, and an influx of green spaces to aid in the battle against climate change.

“While the road to this idyllic future might be challenging, the rewards promise to be bountiful. Armed with technology, we must resiliently undertake this transformative journey starting as soon as possible.”
