Congress neither national nor Indian, it’s now party of ‘bhai-bahan’: BJP prez Nadda

May 19, 2022 by economictimes.indiatimes.com Leave a Comment

Synopsis

The BJP president blamed the Congress for the growth of regional parties, accusing the main opposition party of not giving space to regional aspirations during its dominance over national politics.

The Congress is neither national nor Indian and not democratic either and has become a “bhai-bahan” party, BJP president J P Nadda said on Thursday in a sharp attack on dynastic parties. Addressing a seminar on “Threat of Dynastic Parties to Democratic Governance “, Nadda said dynastic parties, where a person’s interest reigns supreme, lack ideology and are a threat to democracy.

While the Constitution bars any discrimination on the basis of birth, leadership in these parties is decided on the basis of birth and others are ignored, he said, bringing in dynasty-run regional parties in almost every state as well as the Congress in his attack.

The BJP president blamed the Congress for the growth of regional parties , accusing the main opposition party of not giving space to regional aspirations during its dominance over national politics.

The BJP, he said, believes in ” unity among diversity ” and gives space to regional aspirations while keeping the centre strong.

As regional parties grow, personality cult becomes “overbearing and overwhelming” in them, sidetracking ideology and local aspirations, he said.

“What is most saddening is that the Congress has become neither national nor Indian not democratic. It is also standing now as a party of ‘bhai-bahan’,” he said, an apparent reference to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra playing key roles in running the show in their party.

The BJP is the only party where internal democracy is maintained, he said.

Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief, will speak at the ‘Ideas for India’ conference. He will also interact with the Indian diaspora on what the present and future hold for the country, said the Congress media department head and general secretary Randeep Surjewala.

On May 23, Rahul Gandhi will address and interact at Cambridge University on “India at 75: The challenges and way ahead for a resilient-modern India”. The ‘Ideas for India’ event is slated for Friday in London.

He will be reaching London on Thursday evening. Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Priyank Khadge are also in London to take part in the event.

Notably, this is the first such overseas event for Rahul Gandhi after the return of travel normalcy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rahul Gandhi left for London at a time when Congress is battling desertion of party leaders from key states. Hardik Patel quit Congress at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party has already gone in overdrive to prepare for the Gujarat Assembly elections.

Earlier, Congress’ former Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar had quit the party, with a cryptic remark ‘goodbye and good luck’.

While Congress held marathon discussions with the poll strategist Prashant Kishor, he eventually rejected the proposal to join a committee of the party. Subsequently, Congress held a Chintan Shivir in Udaipur in Rajasthan to brainstorm over challenges faced by the party, including roadmap to strengthen the organisation ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar joins BJP in presence of party chief J P Nadda

May 19, 2022 by economictimes.indiatimes.com Leave a Comment

Synopsis

A former Lok Sabha member, Jakhar was removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary committee following allegations of anti-party activities by certain Punjab unit leaders against him.

Former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar joined the BJP on Thursday in the presence of party chief J P Nadda, days after he quit the grand old party.

Welcoming him in the BJP, Nadda said Jakhar had enjoyed a special stature in Punjab that was independent of the Congress party and helped strengthen nationalist forces in Punjab.

“BJP is emerging as the number one nationalist force in Punjab. Hence it is necessary for all leaders having nationalist ideology join the BJP to strengthen the party and for a stronger Punjab,” Nadda said.

Jakhar, a three-term MLA and a former Lok Sabha member from Gurdaspur, became emotional as he recalled the five-decade association of his family with the Congress.

“It is not easy to break a relationship with the Congress that spanned three generations – from 1972 till now. We had been with the Congress in good times and bad,” Jakhar said.

Jakhar said the BJP had welcomed him because he had not pursued politics for personal good.

Jakhar had quit the Congress last week after lashing out at former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Twitter, saying that he was “not an asset” as portrayed by the party leadership .

A former Lok Sabha member, Jakhar was removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary committee following allegations of anti-party activities by certain Punjab unit leaders against him.

He also lashed out at veteran Congress leader Ambika Soni for her statement on the “repercussions of having a Hindu chief minister in Punjab”. Jakhar also held Soni’s statement as one of the reasons for the Congress’ drubbing in the Punjab assembly polls earlier this year.

Speaking in his turn, Jakhar revealed that he was “sidelined” because he pointed out that the party can’t treat Punjab in percentages and divide people over caste.

“I had a 50-year-old relationship with Congress, my family has been with the party for three generations since 1972. I considered it family,” he said, claiming that he quit Congress, not because of any personal dispute, but “fundamental issues” with the party.

Jakhar had quit the Congress last week after lashing out at former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Twitter, saying that he was “not an asset” as portrayed by the party leadership.

If BJP sources are to be believed, then Sunil Jakhar might be sent to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab.

Day after resignation, Hardik Patel slams Congress, calls it casteist

May 19, 2022 by zeenews.india.com Leave a Comment

A day after resigning from the Congress party, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel slammed the grand old party and called it casteist. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday here, Hardik Patel levelled a series of allegations against the Congress and its leaders. Calling the party casteist, he said it never had vision for the development of Gujarat, on the contrary its party leaders are full of negativity. Without naming any senior leaders, Patel alleged that only eight to ten leaders control the party and they are misleading the national leadership.

Citing examples of the late Chiman Patel, Narhari Ami and Vitthal Radadiya, Hardil Patel said injustice was done to them just because they were patidars. He also alleged that Congress leaders believe in dividing Patel`s Leuva and Kadva sub groups.

He also alleged that one family controls the state unit of the Congress party for the last 12 years, though he did not name it, but hinted towards Madhavsinh Solanki, whose son Bharatsinh Solanki was made GPCC president twice in the last one decade, then his cousin Amit Chavda was made state unit president.

Hardik Patel said state Congress leaders do not have guts, spine and fighting spirit to take on the BJP. He questioned how can such a party take up people`s issues, fight for them and get justice. According to Hardik, state congress leaders are more interested in keeping Rahul Gandhi happy by arranging diet coke or Chicken Sandwich for him.

He said, he realized that he wasted three years of his career by joining the Congress. He appealed to the people not to vote for the Congress as the party is not interested in serving the people. He said after state elections in 2022, the Congress may not be visible on opposition benches, and people may try some other option.

He said he believes that there should be strong opposition in the country or the state, but according to him, Congress does not deserve that status. Hardik Patel also endorsed the `Congress Mukt Bharat`. Hardik Patel has started playing Hindu card for the last one month, but at the same time claimed that his belief about Hinduism is not for show off. “I am born a Hindu and believer of Hinduism. But Congress does speak out its policy on finding Shivling in Gyanvapi mosque.”
