Hello everyone!

Unfortunately, we must plan for rain this weekend. There is some good news, it’s not a washout, but the newest data brings a few changes to the forecast.

First off, we can expect the light hit of snow to trend farther south, giving more coatings close to our higher populated metro areas. Rain also looks to stop a little earlier Saturday.

The last change and worst one, in my opinion, is the heavier rain for Sunday morning. South of the city could stack up closer to 2 inches by Monday.

Temps drop Tuesday for a one-day cold snap, then we rebound to 50 again by Thursday.

CBS2 Weather Headlines: Rainy Weekend, But Not A Washout; Temps Top Out In Upper 40s, Low 50s

February 27, 2021 by newyork.cbslocal.com Leave a Comment

By Matt DeLucia, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

It’s a wet weekend out there, but it won’t be a total washout. After a rainy start today, we’ll get a dry break for the late afternoon and evening. There may even be some breaks of sun here and there. Temps will be mild, topping out in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Clouds will quickly increase once again overnight, but it does remain dry. We’ll be waking up around 40 in NYC, 30s in the suburbs, and some upper 20s far N&W. Watch for some slick spots in the higher elevations.

After a dry start, another round of rain moves in by late morning tomorrow and continues through the day. There may even be some brief heavier bouts south of the city. Temps are a little cooler, reaching the mid 40s.

A lingering shower early Monday along the coast gives way to a drier and milder afternoon with highs around 50. A strong cold front then moves through late in the day… Winds pick up, temps tumble and a few snow showers are even possible overnight.

We’ll be waking up in the teens and 20s Tuesday morning!

Fortunately, it’s short-lived and we bounce back above normal for the rest of the week.

Wet weather set to continue into first two weeks of December: Met Service

December 1, 2020 by www.channelnewsasia.com Leave a Comment

SINGAPORE: More showers are expected over Singapore during the first two weeks of December, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in a news release on Tuesday (Dec 1).

Short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers are forecast over parts of Singapore in the afternoon on most days, MSS said, adding that these showers may extend into the evening “on a few occasions”.

“On a few days, the thundery showers could be intense and widespread due to large-scale convergence of winds over Singapore and the surrounding vicinity,” said the service.

A strengthening of the north-easterly winds can be expected in the latter half of the fortnight, MSS said, adding that this is forecast to bring occasionally windy conditions on some days.

“The rainfall for the first fortnight of December is expected to be near-normal over most parts of Singapore,” MSS said.

The daily temperature is forecast to range between 24 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius on most days over the next two weeks, and may reach 34 degrees Celsius on “one or two days”. On a few rainy days, daily lows of around 22 degrees Celsius can be expected, said MSS.

SECOND COOLEST NOVEMBER IN 10 YEARS

The wet weather conditions for the first two weeks of December are a continuation of a generally wet month in November .

The wet weather can be attributed to strong solar heating of land areas coupled with large scale convergence of winds over Singapore and the surrounding vicinity, MSS said.

On Nov 2, intense thundery showers fell over many parts of the island, with the daily total rainfall recorded that day coming in at 134.2mm at Paya Lebar.

“This was the highest total rainfall in a day for November 2020,” said MSS.

There were a few warm days in November, mainly in the first fortnight of the month. The highest daily maximum temperature of 34.9 degrees Celsius was recorded at Clementi and Paya Lebar on Nov 5 and Nov 12 respectively.

In the second fortnight of November 2020, rainy weather and cloudy skies brought cooler temperatures, MSS said.

The lowest daily minimum temperature of 22.3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Pulau Ubin on Nov 28.

“At the climate station in Changi, November 2020 recorded a monthly mean temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius, making November 2020 the second coolest November in the past 10 years,” MSS said.

Wet weather to continue through rest of November: Met Service

November 16, 2020 by www.channelnewsasia.com Leave a Comment

SINGAPORE: Wet weather is expected to continue through the second half of November, with temperatures ranging between 24 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Monday (Nov 16).

On one or two days, daily maximum temperature could still reach a high of up to 35 degrees Celsius, MSS said.

Short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers is expected over parts of Singapore on most afternoons, with the likelihood of showers extending into the evening on a few days.

Widespread thundery showers and gusty are also expected between the predawn on early morning on one or two days due to the passage of Sumatra squalls.

This comes as low-level winds are forecast to gradually strengthen and shift to blow from the northeast or northwest around the end of the month, MSS said, adding that the change in monsoonal winds signal the start of the Northeast Monsoon season and is expected to extend into March next year.

“The rainfall for November 2020 is likely to be above average over most parts of Singapore,” MSS said.

The wet weather pattern continues from the first half of the month , which saw moderate to heavy showers over the island on many days. Heavy rainfall on Nov 2 also resulted in flash floods reported over several areas in the afternoon.

Daily temperatures for the first fortnight of November ranged between 22.5 degrees Celsius and 34.9 per cent degrees Celsius, with the highest recorded on Nov 5 and 12 at Clementi and Paya Lebar, respectively.

The lowest temperature over this period was recorded on Nov 2 at Newton, at 22.5 degrees Celsius.

Lockdown-weary Brits hit beaches and parks to bask in 13C sunshine & warm weather despite warnings

February 27, 2021 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

LOCKDOWN-weary Brits hit beaches and parks across the UK today to bask in 13C sunshine despite lockdown warnings.

Health officials have urged people to keep following the “stay at home” order and to not be tempted by the glorious weather outside.

Last night crowds in Exeter sat alongside the River Exe enjoying the warm weather while watching the sunset.

The sun-basking Brits were pictured sitting in groups of more than three people breaking the current lockdown restrictions in place.

Since January 4, Brits have not been allowed to leave their home to meet socially with anyone that is not in their support bubble or is not in their household.

Brits are also advised to stay two metres apart from anyone not in their household or support bubble.

It comes the day after local MP Ben Bradshaw called for restrictions to be lifted earlier in the southwest due to reduced levels of Covid-19 infections.

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, the deputy chief medical officer for England, urged Brits to stay disciplined on the rules and “don’t wreck it now”.

Today temperatures will reach a high of 13C in parts of southern England while most areas across the UK will peak at 10C.

According to the Met Office, today will be dry with plenty of sunshine for many.

However, further north will begin with cloudy skies and patchy rain but will clear as the day goes on.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “Winter will go out on a whimper this weekend with conditions set to be very quiet and dry for most.

“For Southern parts of the country, it’s looking like a lovely afternoon with plenty of sunny skies after a frosty start to the morning.

“Temperatures won’t be as mild as they have been in the last few days but the mercury will still be above average.

“Most parts of the UK will see temperatures of between 11C and 13C.”

Tonight will be dry and will continue to be overnight with clear spells and patchy clouds.

On Wednesday Brits enjoyed the hottest day of the year so far with the mercury hitting a glorious 18C.

Forecasters said it the weather showed “the first signs of spring”, with some places experiencing weather more like May than February.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said it was a “noticeable change from what we’ve had in recent weeks”.

CURRENT LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS

Since January 4, there has been a “Stay at Home

  • shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person
  • go to work, or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot reasonably do so from home
  • exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person (in which case you should stay 2m apart ). Exercise should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.
  • meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one
  • seek medical assistance or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse)
  • attend education or childcare – for those eligible

However, the warm weather isn’t set to last long with snow predicted for Easter.

Weather charts show a 270-mile ‘snow bomb’ is on course to hit parts of Britain next month – after an 18C warm spell.

WX Charts predicts a band of snow – stretching from Norfolk to Dorset – could blanket some areas.

It would mean Birmingham, parts of the West Midlands and Wales, Gloucestershire, parts of Somerset, Bristol and Dorset, could see the white stuff from March 9.

And the wintry weather could continue into April, with the Met Office saying “a white Easter is more likely than a white Christmas”.

Meteorologist Grahame Madge told SomersetLive : “It’s possible that we could get snow in March.
