Bones found behind man’s house who committed suicide suspected to belong to missing wife

March 20, 2023 by thethaiger.com Leave a Comment

Police believe that bones and “ human-like body parts ” discovered behind a man’s house yesterday who committed suicide in Nakhon Ratchasima province in northeast Thailand could belong to his wife who has been missing for over one week.

The missing woman’s parents believe their daughter was murdered by her husband before he hanged himself.

At midday on March 13, 30 year old Sittichoke sent a message via Facebook to his mother-in-law saying…

“I’m angry, it was too much, I’m sorry mother.”

The concerned parents of 25 year old Suthita, aka “Nam,” hurried to their son-in-law’s home to find that Sittichoke had hanged himself. There was no sign of their daughter Nam.

Nam’s parents filed a missing persons report at Khon Buri Police Station , stating that the last time they saw her was when she left home with her husband Sittichoke on March 11.

Yesterday, bones and “human-like body parts” were found both in the pond behind the house and inside the remnants of 10 fires lit at various spots in the area surrounding the house, beneath mango and jackfruit trees, reports CH3 .

Siittichoke’s mother Prapha testified to the police that her son started a fire in the area where the bones were found on the night of March 12. She said she doesn’t know what he was burning.

Rescue divers from the Hook 31 Rescue Unit searched five ponds near the house. Banana trees had been thrown into the pond as if to hide something, police said.

It took divers about 30 minutes to find a large bone with flesh attached to it which looked as if it had been burned. Divers also found some other “human-like” body parts.

All of the bones and body parts were sent away for an autopsy to confirm whether they belong to Nam.

More fallout from Laguna Honda troubles: Huge S.F. affordable housing project onsite delayed

February 21, 2023 by www.sfchronicle.com Leave a Comment

As far as San Francisco housing projects go, the apartment complex proposed for a Laguna Honda Hospital parking lot seemed to have everything going in its favor.

The plan had community support: Neighbors who had helped kill a similar project proposed across the street were not lining up to oppose the more than 250 badly needed affordable homes for seniors that were being planned at the Laguna Honda site.

Political leaders, including Mayor London Breed and the local supervisor, also wanted the homes to be built. The city selected a well-known and respected affordable developer, Mercy Housing, to construct the complex, which would bring a mix of independent and assisted senior living units to the same campus as a city-run nursing home.

But the project is now delayed due to circumstances unrelated to the proposed apartment complex. City officials and Mercy Housing say they’ve halted work on the project because of Laguna Honda’s ongoing certification problems . Federal regulators decertified the public nursing home last April , six months after state inspectors concluded that the facility was “in a state of substandard care.”

The delay is a blow to San Francisco’s efforts to facilitate an influx of residential construction to meet a state-mandated goal of getting 82,000 new homes built over the next eight years, a target intended to alleviate the city and state’s long-running housing crisis. It’s also a setback for efforts to expand affordable housing options particularly for seniors, a growing population that faces a dire shortage of low-cost homes.

Anne Stanley, a spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, said in an email that Laguna Honda and San Francisco public health officials play key roles in moving the apartment project forward. Their help is needed to secure various real estate approvals and figure out how to best make the senior housing function smoothly alongside the nursing home, she said.

“It’s been determined that at this time, Laguna Honda Hospital leadership and DPH must focus their resources on recertification and ensuring that current residents and patients are taken care of while the hospital is stabilized,” Stanley said.

It’s not clear exactly how long the project will be delayed in the end. The project website says construction won’t begin sooner than the third quarter of 2025. An earlier presentation from the mayor’s housing office — issued before the hospital lost its certification — had estimated that construction could have started in fall 2024, pending the necessary permit approvals and funding applications.

That presentation put the project’s size at 265 units, 95 of which would be assisted-living studio units, though Mercy Housing says the actual number has not yet been determined.

“All design work is on pause as we wait for the hospital to be re-certified by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services,” Mercy spokesperson Kate Peterson said in an email. “Beyond that, we have no further information or updates to share at this time.”

San Francisco is in desperate need of more housing for low-income seniors. A 2022 Aging and Disability Affordable Housing Needs Assessment Report from the city found that about 30,000 senior households in San Francisco faced a housing cost burden and for about half of them it was severe, meaning they put more than 50% of their income toward housing costs. The same report found that the number of seniors and disabled adults could grow from 23% to as much as 30% of the city population by 2030, and the demand for housing to serve those residents already “far outpaces the supply.”

Sam Moss, the executive director of the Mission Housing Development Corp., a nonprofit housing developer that is not involved in the Laguna Honda project, was dismayed to learn of the delay caused by the nursing home’s decertification. He said homes for low-income seniors are often the hardest kind of affordable housing to fund, the most challenging to build and the most difficult to operate.

“One of the ways to make it easier … is to coordinate with a hospital like Laguna Honda,” Moss said. “This is tragic.”

Supervisor Myrna Melgar, whose district includes Laguna Honda, said she understood why the nursing home’s decertification had interfered with the housing development. The land belongs to the city, and the utilities for and layout of the apartment complex need to be designed in such a way that they don’t interfere with the nursing home’s regulatory requirements or operations.

But she was still frustrated by the situation.

“We should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time,” Melgar said.

As the local supervisor, Melgar said she felt caught between a rock and a hard place. She wished that the Department of Public Health had assigned staff from elsewhere in its public health system to the housing project so that it could advance while Laguna Honda officials focused all their efforts on regaining certification.

At the same time, Melgar said, “we need to save the hospital.”

“That’s the No. 1 priority,” she said. “I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize that. But I do think that a well-funded department that has the capacity of our Department of Public Health has, and facilities people in other places — they could have pulled this off if they wanted to. I think it’s just not a priority right now.”

The health department said in a statement that its staff and Laguna Honda’s leaders are “fully dedicated” to getting the nursing home recertified and preventing its more than 500 residents from being displaced.

Police are warning residents about a burglary crew targeting high-end homes in Lake and McHenry counties along with other parts of the Chicago area.

Oakwood Hills Police Chief Raymond Cordell said the theft crew is burglarizing high-end homes, typically located on golf courses, in McHenry County. Three or four suspects travel around in rented SUVs, usually rented from small or obscure rental companies.

They attempt to break into homes through patio and glass doors and steal expensive jewelry, Cordell said. They will normally park on a side street and walk to the targeted house.

They have broken into at least one house while it was occupied, Cordell said.

The suspects announced that they were the police and fire department and the residents needed to leave immediately.

The suspects fled the scene when the resident said they were calling the police.

The Lakewood Police Department said they also have had multiple burglaries in their village recently.

One of them occurred around 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 7300 block of Longmoor Drive. Forced entry was made through the rear of the residence.

On the same day, a burglary occurred in the 9500 block of Nicklaus Lane in Lakewood.

The residents returned home to find entry was made through a window in the rear of the home and their belongings were stolen.

Another burglary occurred on Turnberry Trail in Lakewood on January 30.

The Lakewood Police Department said they have “sustained an active approach” to investigating the crimes.

Lakewood police attended a multi-jurisdictional meeting with other law enforcement agencies from throughout the Chicago area.

“The objective of this meeting was to disseminate and share intelligence, specific to a group of individuals known as the South American Theft Crew,” police said.

The crew was suspected primarily of being active in Lake and Kane counties.

The same crew has been involved in burglary cases in other states south of Illinois, police said.

The group has been known to target high-end residences that back up to wooded areas or golf courses.

They use the land behind the residences as a means to monitor residences and also to flee the scene.

Lakewood police do not believe the South American Theft Crew was responsible for the Turnberry Trail burglary. That burglary was possibly part of a “gypsy gang.”

The burglary on Longmoor Drive has “more of an implication to ties with this South American crew,” officials added.

Residents throughout the Chicago area are recommended to have exterior lighting and exterior cameras and also have an alarm system for their homes.

“If you are on vacation, do not give an indication where you are at on Facebook or other social media outlets. These groups are highly organized, and search for these types of messages,” police said.

Most police departments offer a house watch for residents who are away from their homes for an extended period.

Michael Moloney of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ Finds a Buyer for His Extremely Nice Home

March 20, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

A Nashville, TN, home belonging to Michael Moloney of “Extreme Makeover: “Home Edition” has quickly found a buyer. It came on the market just last month for $1,850,000 and went under contract after 10 days.

While the listing agent would not comment on the seller, the listing states that a “highly creative and talented owner bought this property in 2003.”

“We have had multiple offers and have a backup as well,” says listing agent Beth Ligon Molteni , of Fridrich & Clark Realty. “The home has great street appeal, is situated on a walkable street in Nashville, and sits higher than the road. It also has a nice backyard.”

Flexible floorplan

The next owner will have a lot of options with the five-bedroom home, she adds.

“There is a lot of flexibility with the floor plan. For example, in the bedroom, there is a room across from the closet that is being used as a small office that could be turned into a second closet. The bedroom next door could be used as an office. You could also turn it into an exercise room or playroom for the kids. There is a lot of space also for storage.”

Delightful domicile

The 3,826-square-foot home is quite different from the original structure that was built in 1959.

“It started off as a one-story house years ago, and then a second floor was added on,” Molteni says. “The wife is a very talented artist, who used to be a commercial designer. When you walk into the house, it is a delightful space and very bright. The home has a fresh, traditional style that is not super contemporary.”

“If you are looking for your happy place, this is it,” the listing states. With a brightly colored interior like this, it would be hard not to smile.

A living room is decked out in pink and lime green. A spacious dining room features coral curtains and pink walls offset by dark wood floors. The colors carry into the powder room with its swan wallpaper with pink flowers and lime-green vanity.

The half-acre lot boasts a fenced backyard, covered porch, and two-car carport with a storage area.

“All of the buyers who have shown interest in the home have small children and were looking at it as a primary residence,” Molteni adds. “With a price point under $2 million, that was also an appealing factor.”
