Why ab de villiers is retires from international cricket

Cricket world in mourning following death of Rudi Koertzen

August 9, 2022 by www.abc.net.au Leave a Comment

Former international cricket umpire Rudi Koertzen has died in a car crash in South Africa.

Key points:

  • Rudi Koertzen made his debut as an international umpire in 1992
  • He was on the International Cricket Council’s elite panel of umpires
  • Koertzen still umpired occasionally in amateur cricket in his hometown

Koertzen, 73, was on his way back home from Cape Town after a weekend of golf when the fatal accident happened on Tuesday morning (local time).

Three others were also killed in the crash in the crash at Riversdale, around 300km east of Cape Town.

Koertzen became an umpire in 1981 and made his debut as an international umpire in 1992 during India’s historic tour of South Africa.

He was on the International Cricket Council’s elite panel of umpires for eight years and officiated in 331 matches, a record at the time of his retirement in 2010 that has since been surpassed by Pakistan’s Aleem Dar.

“It is a very big loss, foremost for his family and then for South Africa and cricket,” Dar said.

“I stood in so many games with him. He was not only very good as an umpire but also an excellent colleague, always very cooperative on field and also always willing to help off the field.

“Because of the way he was, he was also well-respected by players.”

Koertzen’s time as an umpire was best remembered for the entertainingly slow raising of his finger to dismiss a batter.

A number of professional cricketers around the world expressed their condolences at the news of Koertzen’s death.

“Bit Like AB de Villiers Did When He Was In Actual Prime”: Ricky Ponting On India Star | Cricket News

August 16, 2022 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

Suryakumar Yadav has received high praise from the great Ricky Ponting , who compared the batter with AB de Villiers , saying the Indian possesses a 360 degree game like the South African genius.

“He hits really well over the leg side, flicks to deep backward square particularly well, and he’s a good player of fast bowling and is a good player of spin bowling.” Yadav, 31, has scored 672 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 175.45 in 23 T20 matches and now sits at No.2 in the ICC T20 Batter Rankings, behind Pakistan skipper Babar Azam .

“He’s a very, very exciting player and I’m sure someone that’s going to find himself in their team, not just their squad,” Ponting, who has seen Yadav up close in his early years at Mumbai Indians, said.

“I think you’d find him in their team for the T20 World Cup. And if he’s in that team, then I think all the fans in Australia are going to see a very, very good player.

“He’s quite a confident person. He backs himself and he’s never going to step down from a challenge or any situation that arises in a game. I feel he thinks he can win that situation and therefore go on and win the game for his team.” Asked whether Yadav would make India’s best XI, the former Australian skipper said he has “played better than anybody else in the Indian team for the last couple of series” and should be slotted at the top order.

“It’s got to be in the top four, I think. I said stick with him ( Virat Kohli ) in his traditional spot, which has been number three,” Ponting, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, said.

“For Surya, it’s one, two or four. I think he can open, but I think he’s probably, you know, if you could probably just keep him away from the new ball, let him control the middle part of the game outside the Powerplay, through in the middle, and if he’s in at the end, you know what can happen.” Yadav’s strike rate rises to 258.82 in the death overs in T20Is — in 34 balls he has smashed 88 runs with 15 of those deliveries going for boundaries.

Ponting said: “I think in the top four is, well, actually I’ll go out on a limb: I don’t want him to open. I think number four is his best spot.” Australia will host the T20 World Cup in October-November.

Ricky Ponting compares Suryakumar Yadav to AB de Villiers

August 15, 2022 by www.mykhel.com Leave a Comment

Speaking on the latest episode of the ICC Review, Ponting said, “Surya (Yadav) scores 360 degrees around the ground, a bit like an AB de Villiers did when he was in his actual prime. The lap shots, the late cuts, you know, the ramps over the keeper’s head. He can hit down the ground.”

Furthermore, Ponting added that Suryakumar should bat at number four in the Indian line-up. “He hits really well over the leg side, flicks to deep backward square particularly well, and he’s a good player of fast bowling and is a good player of spin bowling.”

Yadav, 31, has scored 672 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 175.45 in 23 T20 matches and now sits at No.2 in the ICC T20 Batter Rankings, behind Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. “He’s a very, very exciting player and I’m sure someone that’s going to find himself in their team, not just their squad,” Ponting, who has seen Yadav up close in his early years at Mumbai Indians, said.

Australian legend Ian Chappell calls time on his career inside the commentary box

August 14, 2022 by economictimes.indiatimes.com Leave a Comment

Synopsis

London, August 14 (IAN) Australian cricket great Ian Chappell has officially called time on his more than four-decade-long commentating career, said a report in Daily Mail on Sunday quoting Sydney Morning Herald.

Australian cricket great Ian Chappell has officially called time on his more than four-decade-long commentating career, said a report in Daily Mail on Sunday quoting Sydney Morning Herald .

The veteran of 75 Test matches, who ended his illustrious career with more than 5,000 runs in the longest format, reportedly said his decision to leave the broadcasting box was similar to his career retirement call.

The cricketing great began his tenure inside the media box soon after retiring from international cricket, where he led Australia in 30 Tests.

‘I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,’ the 78-year-old, who signed in 1980 with Channel 9 and has worked with the ABC , told the Sydney Morning Herald. ‘I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, ‘S***, if you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go,’ Chappell was quoted as saying.

The legend, who called time on his international career in 1980 after scoring 14 Test centuries, also added that he was almost fired by media baron Kerry Packer amid World Series Cricket .

‘Kerry wanted to sack me a couple of times. He used to get the shits about one-day cricket, because that was his baby … With Kerry it was just like a storm, you’d let it blow over till the next one came,’ Chappell said.

Chappell said he loved talking life with legendary cricketer, the late Richie Benaud and added that while he didn’t foresee the demise of Test cricket in his life time, he wasn’t very optimistic about its future.

‘(Test cricket) won’t die in my lifetime. But who’ll be playing it? That’s the big question,’ Chappell told Channel 9.
